Official Vancouver 2010 Olympics Thread

Comedy Thursday is back! THANK GOD!

So who’s gonna watch The Tonight Show…tonight?

Like everyone said this was a stellar game to see. As a Canadian of course its great to have to be on the winning side, but credit must be giving where its due. Team U.S.A were equally amazing if not better than canada for majority of the tourney. Kane, Parise, and miller (of the top of my head) were solid, its just too bad its not their time but they will be back (maybe not miller)

Just a little something Id like to say. The turning point for team Canada started, yes, after the lost to the states. The states showed us our weakness, our sloppyness, our uncoordination, and that we werent going to just win through our skills alone. Losing to the states allow canada 1 extra game to find themselves, showed us that Brodeur has past his time, and that we were going to have grind out hard for every puck to win. Its just unfortunately for the states that the pools were set up so that the states and Canada would play each other in a round robbin. I wonder had this match up never happened so early, I myself doubt Canadas ability to even reach gold let alone win it off the americans in a rematch.
Given all this time for Team Canada to refigure themselves, find the right combinations, new goalie, Mike Babcocks prep work, and Canada lust for revenge the favour were stacked against the americans. Team USA has a big role in Canadas gold.

GG I look forward to Sochi

P.S - I think USA dominance in majority of the tourney may have been their downfall. They didnt know how to respond when trailing from behind, and stats show that since NHLer started playing in the olympics in 1998, no team that went undefeated had also taken gold.

i know something that canada has that america definitely does not

a good southern neighbour

also, look how our bosses handled the game, betting on beer http://www.edmontonsun.com/sports/vancouver2010/hockey/2010/02/28/13059611-qmi.html

i love you north america

That’s why you lose.

The quality of Canadian trolling is light years ahead of the rest of the world, it’s ridiculous how good we are.

CANADA WINS AGAIN

You’re worthy of your Yoda avatar.

I like Vancouver’s Chinatown > Seattle’s Chinatown if that makes any of you Canadians feel any better. That is about it though.

Especially from Tornoto. See: LOLRaptors.

How about we North Americans stop competing against one another in hockey and step up our soccer game? Imagine how mad they’d be and the amount of troll potential we can inflict on the Euros if an NA country won the World Cup?

“We just beat your entire continent at your own game. Now back to watching our shitty laugh track filled sitcoms, Hollywood buddy movies, wasting resources and showering everyday.”

Yeah the EU might declare war on North America.

bad things would happen is north america beasted on soccer…baddd things.

brazilian and mexicans would declare war within our borders.

Great idea totally forgot about it. ESPN had a poll and it was

“would you rather win Olympics hockey gold” or “win the World Cup.” Now first off America doesn’t really care for either one, but it was unanimous by 49/50 states that we would rather win world cup.

Trolling the world > trolling Canada.

Before today, I thought 115C was higher than the boiling point of water and uninhabitable AND that Mexico was part of North America. Thanks for setting me straight, SRK.

Seriously

Spoiler

115C only equals 238.9 or 239 Fahrenheit. C’mon with global warming coming or already here depending on what side you’re on we might as well start training now. We also kicked out Mexico when their boxers keep getting their ass kicked in the ring by Pac-Man and PBF.

At least Canada and USA share that in common. North America: we suck at geography and basic conversions, and we like to ignore Mexico.

imo.

Canada has so much to give us, like Poutine, the Film Junk podcast, and an excuse to hate the French vicariously through the Quebecois. We shouldn’t fight, we should combine talents. A Double Down with maple smoked Canadian Bacon, poutine, and some quality Mexican beer? That, my friends, is multiculturalism.

Dos Equis>Molson.

i was talking about the ones in our country…hence i said within our borders.

From my personal experience, one fuckbag like you is made up for by ten genuinely nice Americans. But hey, let’s ignore all that and judge the entire country’s population on stereotypes, pop culture, historical events, and foreign policy.

You were previously wondering why nobody else cares about hockey? The obvious answer: Americans generally don’t like hockey because they are not the best at it.

Like I said, there is a fine line between patriotism and arrogance.

Patriotism:
-Feeling proud that your country won the Gold Medal.
-Feeling proud despite that your country didn’t win the Gold Medal.
-Feeling heartbroken that your country didn’t win the Gold Medal.
-Thinking that your country is great in many ways.

Arrogance
-Feeling the need to re-establish that another country’s triumph is meaningless and that your country is still greater.
-Thinking that your country is greater than every other country in every way.

The Olympics is supposed to bring countries together, and you’re going off about “my country is better than your country”. It takes a special type of douchebag to start shitting on other countries in the Olympics thread. I guarantee that most of the world was rooting for Canada to beat the US, because people like you could use a dose of humility.

If I was American, I’d be proud enough of Team USA’s performance not to disgrace it by trivializing the other country’s victory.

First of all, canada didn’t get “raped” in the first game. Canada dominated play in the first period, and even when they were down 3-2, miller was coming up huge that game could have been 4-3 canada if it wasn’t for him. Then they took 3 stupid penalties in a row in the 3rd and it cost them and they fell behind by two. Miller again made two huge saves, and crosby scored. and they usa got an empty net goal. Don’t get me wrong i’m not taking anything away from the US, they play a great game…but to say canada got raped, is is shit talking or just bias blindness.

Second…they didn’t “squeak by and get lucky” in the second game. They dominated play the whole game, Controlled the netrual zone, skated into the american zone at will and dominated play down low. Again if it wasn’t for miller that game would have been a blow out. They could have been up 6-1 in the third period. The americans even though they were tied in shots, go take a look at the quality of the chances. All of there shots were from the outside and routine saves for luongo…even the first goal was a harmless shot from the outside, except kessler managed to sneak in and get a stick on it. If you want to talk about lucky, talk about the lucky bounce that ended up on parises stick for the second goal. But that’s the difference…where if canada got that same chance, miller was coming up huge and making the save…in canadas case anything outside of a routine save, luongo wasn’t stopping it. Then further more, canada dominated over time…the us got one good chance on a giveaway and it wasn’t even that dangerous of a shot.

Just because crosby isn’t putting up 3 points a game doesn’t mean he played shit. He didn’t take any stupid penalties, he didn’t have any give aways. He played his role for the team, just like everyone else. That’s why canada won, because they came together as a team, everyone put in work and did their job. That’s exactly why the US was there as well. If you look at the teams on paper, the US doesn’t have the superstar status canada does, but they are all skilled world class players as well, that threw away any ego put in work and came together as a team. If you knew anything about anything you would know a team of players just play basic systems and in your face hard work hockey can easily beat a team of really skilled players that don’t play like a team. Anyways…back to crosby, other than the stupid penalty vs the americans in the first game, he played a fine tounry and the two times canada needed him…he was there. That’s the type of player he is, when the game is on the line you wouldn’t want anyone else on the ice. And he proved it twice in the tournment.

Yeah but travel through the states, is full of lay overs and delayed flights. Everything is direct in canada. Of course flying is still to expensive.

Only if you live in all the lame cities that aren’t toronto! We have every sport here. Get with the rest of the country and move to a real city! haha

You can fight everywhere in canada EXCEPT toronto. There’s no fight scene here. Lots of people train, but we can’t hold events…outside of indian reservations.

I can’t agree with the weather. It varies across the states. They have worse snow storms than us. Plus when was the last time we had wild fires/earthquakes/hurricanes/tornados/volcanos…and now the threat of a tsunami destroy a city in canada?

You forgot UofT and UofA…but yeah, we fall behind in the sheer number of good unis.

dude…i’m no molson fan. molson canadian is shit. But Dos Equis is pure swine piss. You could have atleast said corona.
