Official Vancouver 2010 Olympics Thread

That is real talk.

Hulu is indeed great to have, Americans need to stop taking it for granted.

Sometimes it’s annoying as hell to track down random SNL skits on YouTube before they get pulled or on wacky sites like Dailymotion and etc. SNL just isn’t good enough for me to sit through the whole thing, but I still want to catch the occasional good skit whenever they have one.

In-N-Out…okay, that’s arguable. Wendy’s is great too, and the In-N-Out fries are very meh.

So okay, America really only has Hulu.com on us.

The only thing tastier than American sore loser salt is Crosby hater salt. Hate on. I’m lovin it.

Are you trying to imply that Crosby had a good game? Lol classic.

Hulu’s going to be for-pay later this year, isn’t it?

And up here in the northeast, they don’t even have In-N-Outs.

Still, and this may shock you, but I’ve never had anybody tell me privately that they wish they were a Canadian.

so… why is america better?

I could answer that but unfortunately I would give more of a comparison of French Canada vs USA, which I guess doesn’t apply right now does it?
But considering strictly English Canada vs USA here are my reasons:

-More big (nice) cities to visit/live in
-Food. And not just fast food. Restaurant chains, candy, drinks, breakfast cereals, everything has a bigger variety in the states
-A LOT cheaper to travel (whether it’s flights inside the country or outside of it)

  • No horrible $40 added shipping charges when ordering online and avoiding places that don’t even ship to canada
-shit is cheaper to order because of exchange rate (though the currency exchange is pretty close right now)
-If you’re a sports fan, in canada you’re pretty much confined to Hockey, In the US you have a much bigger variety than hockey + curling (You’re welcome to prove me wrong, I actually don’t follow any sports)
-As a fighting game fan, Canada has Toronto, Montreal and maybe edmonton? US has fighting scenes everywhere.
-MUCH better weather (As William Shatner said: In Canada, -30 celcius is just another sign of Global Warming)
    -Did I mention the weather?
-Education system. I know McGill and UofBC and Queens are good school but let’s face it, we ain’t got shit on the american universities.
-The rest of my reasons are again, more against french canada, like the mentality, political views, and their hatred of the english language (which results in me being confronted somewhat often with situations where I could get my ass kicked by 6 guys)

That’s what I got off the top of my head.

Disclaimer; this is my OPINION

I have no complaints about the USA hockey team. They played hard, but the Canadian players controlled the tempo of the game and seemed to really muscle team USA for a few stretches. Honestly, I am not the most educated person on hockey (I typically watch 2-3 games per year) but it definitely seemed America had a tough time keeping the puck on the Canadian side and the Canadians had a much better team defense that team USA.

I was going to make a semi-long post listing some reasons, but then I thought of a single concise point that Canada cannot even touch.

America has the EBM.

Canada: y u mad tho?

imo.

both countries are the same when you think about what people do day to day in their lives. go to work get paid, enjoy life. the details dont change your experience very much if you’re focused on getting the most out of life…

That kid was beast…Blackhawks getting Stanley Cup soon.

One can hope. If they go into the playoffs against the Habs, It’s going to be “Val getting food thrown at him for cheering for the opposition in the sports bar” season again.

In what field?

When it comes to geography, America happens to have basically any sort of spot available. We’ve got Cape Cod, we’ve got Miami Beach, we’ve got New York City, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Alaska. Canada has…uhhh…tundra?

Culturally, America beats out Canada in every department. America has Hollywood. Canada has the Toronto Film Festival. America has mwLOJtaYHxg"]Aerosmith. Canada has . Down the list. Hell, Canadians are proud of Celine Dion. Fuck is that?

Politically, for all our problems, we’re yet to have a President suspend Congress.

Financially, America is still the best there is. The global economy has never stalled while waiting for news about the Canadian treasury bill. You can pay your way through places around the world with the American dollar. Granted, a Canadian dollar is still internationally useful…it’s just that its use is limited to bathroom stalls.

Canadians are insular and xenophobic. The Canadian government actually banned American TV channels, and put everything on hold to make sure that the NFL couldn’t move the Buffalo Bills to Toronto, out of fear that it’d threaten the CFL. That’s absolutely childish.

Canadians have an unhealthy dependence on their government. Washington DC never threw Disney a fistful of cash to save them from Canadian studios. There are no laws forbidding the CFL from expanding into America. Hell, does anything even survive in Canada if it isn’t propped up by government funding? Is there a single major entity in any field that isn’t on the take?

And then there’s Canadian arrogance. I’m yet to even have a conversation with a Canadian where they don’t end up foolishly rushing into saying “LOLOLWERBETTERTHANUANDYOUKNOWIT” (no offense, Valaris). In all seriousness, the simple fact that Canadian press believes that they talk from a position of authority on American politics says it all. Then you have Canadians inexplicably proud of a healthcare system that is so feeble that companies pop up that are based on trafficking people into the country that they’re somehow better than because they can’t get chemotherapy. I’ve met far too many Canadians in my life, and I’m yet to meet one that wasn’t an arrogant prick.

Christ, how is America NOT better than Canada? In any way? Hell, America even produces better anti-Americans than you scrubs.

None taken, a few posts up I was stating why I preferred USA over Canada. I’m not the LOLOWERBETTERTHANYANDYOUKNOWIT type  I’m more of the “I grew up in the US and learned to call it home so despite Canada being a nice place, it’s just not MY place”.

Wow you guys are takig this way out of hand. GG Canada I said this in another thread but I will say it again.

so america is better because of its geographical location and because it has a lot of people?
cfl sucks anyway, that point is moot
so i guess canada sucks, we dont have enough people and too much room =\

at least we arent touching mexico, checkmate

Wayne Gretzky>Lebron.

Remember what I said about how Canadians are xenophobic and insular? Yeah, racist, too.

Canda has Quebec inside. I’d take Mexico over that.

fuck… well thankfully im in the west and the french influence is none
but thats definitely a strike against us

I gave a serious, thoughtful reply. Man up and do the same.

BC looks like that in the summer between june sept, and thats lake freshwater not saltwater

osooyos BC gets to like 115 C in the summer on some days. and its a hot spot for camping/jet skiing/summertime fun. then in the same province in the winter we get whistler blackcomb and all the rest of the mountains for wintertime fun. just in BC. BC has the most geographic diversity of any state or province as far as hot/cold things to do all year round but maybe america has more diversity overall cause it goes into the tropic climate near the south.

Canada is far too socialist. but you guys spend just as much money on the DEA/FBI/NASA/CIA/MILITARY that doesnt really feedback into personal happiness for the average person. and i watched a documentary where an arizona chief of justice made logical fallacies to defend incarcerating pot smokers. because all america needed was surgeons getting high on pot and then jeopardizing their patient. when in reality/practice that would happen just as often as a surgeon drinking before they did surgey. and i dont think many/any surgeons would drink/smoke weed before doing surgery because if they did that and were caught that would be the end of their career + lawsuit/jail. this irrationality among your leaders is comparable to keeping the buffulo bills out of toronto and the rest of our socialist getting involved in everything ideals

more on wasting money and bad ideas, what does going to the moon do except create another thing on the list for accomplishments? finding life outside earth is a great idea, but not when when there are problems inside your country. again being socialist and being money wasters who waste tax money cancel each other out. you might even say your ideas of what do with cash are worse because you use money for private interests where at least socialism has a reward or has that intent behind it that can be felt on the immediate level.
