I wonder why there aren’t more online retailers not willing to ship these games early, I mean there are so many you’d assume there would be some who consistently don’t give a **** and just ship them as they get them.
Because they are under a binding contract that obligates the retailer to release the game on the specific date (unless they get special permission to do otherwise). Breaching the contract with breaking the street date means the game company (and others) will feel less inclined to ship more games out to those stores (or they will simply ship to them 1 to 2 weeks later).
And yes, I know you meant online. The same rule applies, and they have their own warehouses to ship from. WoW: Wrath of the Lich King release was a pretty big fiasco that had hella people breaking street date. A lot of those stores (RL and online) got pwned after that.
If anything, you want to go to a Mom & Pop store (that also sells games) if you want the best chance of getting a copy early-- those types of stores usually don’t make much revenue on games in the first place, so breaking street date is no biggie for them. Other stores like indie type game stores will break street dates, but force you to pay a little bit more than normal.
Just be patient IMO. :eek:
