Leaving Boston MA after a trip if i cant get it by 2PM tomorrow flying back to Ireland and I will de doomed to wait for the European version - another weeks wait and a black and white manual -200 pages long all text no pictures with languages such as Polish Latvain & estonian - and you guys think you’re desperate!!
Trip not all bad I pick up the Limited edition HD remix of Metal Gear with art book which I thought would have been long gone but UMVC3 was one I was really after - tried to go via capcom us store and get game sent to my hotel but my order was refused because I had an Irish credit card billing address - God loves a trier!
Tried Gamestop and fye down town, Best Buy Newbury Street - very nice staff but they told me they didn’t want to lose thier job which is fair enough
Off-topic: That’s because our scene is surprisingly small (or rather, nonexistent) for an urban area. Hell, I live on the south shore, 7 miles from the Sagamore Bridge. There’s no scene to speak of below metro Boston. I was hoping Amar would host another tournament on State Street, but apparently, it’s moved to Dedham.
So i called Gamestop as I was at work today and I’m guessing I spoke to a manager.
Me: I pre-ordered umvc3 and is there any way i can pick it up today
Him: No, your going to have to wait until Tuesday like everyone else.
Me: Well, I know some stores have been selling them already.
Him: What stores, so I can call and fire them.
-Awkward silence-
Me: It wasn’t Gamestop
Him: Oh okay, you have a good day now.
I’m going to stop by and try tomorrow on the way home from class and try again and see what happens lol
That happened to me when I went into a Gamestop on Friday before I got the game.
Me: Oh hey, I know some stores are selling UMvC3 early, any chance I can get it here? Girl goes on phone to call another Gamestop close by
-Waiting-
Girl: The person I talked to said they didn’t hear about any Gamestops selling early.
Me: I didn’t say Gamestops, I said just stores in such and such places.
Girl: Oh, well I don’t even think we have the game in stock yet.
Me: Oh, ok, thanks.
And then as I walked away I shook my head and grumbled at the fact that the girl wasted my time like that, and most likely blatantly lied at the fact that they didn’t have it when they more than likely did.
But whatever, I got it early, GG Gamestop, lose out on business, no problem.
 So just for future reference ladies, please do not call stores regarding breaking contractually obligated street dates.
If you want the game, buck up, fill your rusty gas tank, and drive your dumb ass to whatever stores you want it from. There are four stores within an hour of me that I know carry the game and would otherwise have sold it to me, but the waterheaded Marvelites that live around here decided that getting on the telephone would somehow be a good idea. For many common sense reasons that I can’t even begin to want to describe, telephoning stores is NOT ONLY the LEAST successful route to securing games, BUT ALSO the MOST EFFICIENT WAY to get those games NOT SOLD EARLY PERIOD.
If you’re going to be super conspicuous, fine. Do that in Metal Gear or some shit. Just please don’t ruin it for everyone else.
Look at me, getting mad over stores not breaking their contracts, LOL. I’M STILL MAD THO
^Truth.
Clerk is more likely to go in the back find a game and sell it to you rather than go in the back after a phone call at place a reservation for you.
I’m sure it happens to them with other big releases and they probably have a protocol to follow on phone reserves.
Calling them just means calling it out and yeah… possibly decreasing your chances to winning the lottery.
Also, don’t post the phone number or address of stores (even malls - it isn’t difficult to figure out which store in the mall you speak of) in threads. Just say the city/locale/whatever and ask folks to PM you. PMs are there for a reason.
Like some have mentioned previously though, regardless of whether you call or show up in person, (for the main retailers) many of them will have systems that prevent the sale of the product before the release date anyway.
Mom & Pop and smaller chains will still be the way to go.
