Official TEasy Thread: TEasy Strike is here!

Got home tired from work and an hour later, my TE is dual modded. You’re godlike Clayton.

Will the Teasy Strike S be instock anytime soon?

Hi Clayton.

Thanks for such an easy transaction. I bought the TEasy strike off phreakmods website and it arrived at my doorstep in Australia in just over 2 weeks.

I read the guide on phreakmods website and used a couple of vids by “purplearms” on youtube and had my dual modded stick done and working within an hour.

There are a few things I’d like to point out though:

  1. Picture illustrations on the installation steps written on Phreakmods website would be nice. I had to do a lot of double/triple takes on a number of steps comparing the videos and the instructions to make sure I’m doing the right thing or understanding it properly.

  2. The original PCB screws really aren’t long enough for new increase in height due to the spacers. Maybe have an option to add $2 and provide longer screws that will go in deeper to prevent stripping. FYI I had 2 screws strip the socket completely so I had to duct tape the board down just in case. Does anyone know the size/name of the screws I will need to account for the increase in height?

  3. I actually got my alignment right with luck the first go. It’s much easier to align and clip the boards when you can look at them freely but I can see people having trouble with it when the TEasy strike is screwed down and can’t be moved.

BTW here’s a tip for people without a multimeter: to check if the boards are connected properly, connect the usb cable to your PC without closing the top panel of the TE. So you don’t have to open up the TE to align the boards again. However, can someone please confirm whether this will fry your PCB(s) if they are NOT connected properly?

Thank you sir, I’m glad you’re up and running! Have fun and tell your friends!

Honestly? …Probably not. I’m clean out and want to do a possible revamp before releasing the next wave of boards (for various reasons). I’ve got way too much on my plate right now to make it a super top priority but eventually they’ll come back around, but more than likely it won’t be until end of this year. For now, just wait until Toodles gets more TE-S kitty kits in since that’ll happen quicker.

Thanks for the feedback, I’m glad you’re up and running!

  1. Picture illustrations would definitely be good. I totally agree, I just haven’t gotten around to it. If you or anyone else wants to take some snapshots for install reference by all means go ahead, I’ll use them on the site and the OP of this threa.
  2. Yeah…sometimes 1 or 2 of them strip and it doesn’t really do very well. HOWEVER, a good workaround that must’ve gotten lost somewhere is to simply use some 1/4 or 1/2" #4 screws (with the pointy end). They fit int the TEasy holes perfectly and they will work themselves into the plastic standoffs of the TE… they will be tight but they won’t break the standoff. Purplearms has done this in the past and so have I… works great. Don’t use duct tape… that will just make things gross.
  3. Yeah, the easiest way is to have the stick on the edge of a table so you can kind of lift it and look between the boards while you align the back row of pins… after you do that it’s cake.

OH, and the last one… DO NOT try and clip/align the boards while you’ve got things powered, that’s an easy way to fry things. Unplugging/aligning is OK, but under no circumstances clip the boards together while things are powered, you’ll accidentally short something for sure.

Phreak: seems like I got hit with a problem someone had here. I tried to update the firmware, my computer said it was an unrecognized USB. When I plugged it into the 360, It’ll just blink and first controller won’t pop up. I tried to realigned it and plug it into the computer…still wouldn’t get it to recognize. any ideas here?

  1. Unfortunately I thought of this in the middle of working through your instructions and the videos (as I couldn’t find a video of the full TEasy strike installation because purplearms said his camera did not record him doing it). But I’ll see if I can do it when I get those new screws.

  2. 1/4 or 1/2" #4 screwes eh? I’ll try and find some, thanks.

  3. That’s not what I meant. I meant that if one didn’t have a multimeter to check the connection, one can line up the boards and clip them in, THEN connect it via USB to the computer to see if the right equipment shows up (ie. if both TEasy strike and 360 modes work). Of course if it doesn’t work, you should disconnect it from USB and try to align again. I was just wondering if connecting through USB with a wrong alignment can fry the boards or not.

just dropping by to say phreak is awesome. 100% customer support. i mean look at this thread.

Just found this and was about to order this and of course its out of stock. -.-

will teasy work with the wii tvc fightstick? or the pcb different than the 360?

edit: found my answer, yes the pcb is totally different…way smaller…

Hey so I wanted to share something i found out. At my arcade we have a guy who is promoting Skullgirls (PS3), and I guess you have to hold Start in order to bring up the in game menu, and then use the joystick/buttons to navigate. The problem with this is that when you hold start it disables all of the buttons and stick until you let go. I asked Phreakazoid and he said to reflash and use the configurator to change the button and disable the Meta functionality. So now my TEasy Strike is set to Select as the meta button with the meta functionality disabled (still) and now when you hold start everything is disabled. I haven’t tried 3.3.1 but I just wanted to see what Mephisto had to say about this.

Hey clayton, I installed a teasy strike into my friends round 1 te he has had it installed for 6 months with no problems what so ever, yesterday he gives me a call and tell me this “Xbox 360 TE worked perfectly fine all day. Unplugged for someone to use a controller afterwards i plugged it back in and the green lights flashed like it usually does but then they all disappear and the xbox does not recognize the fight stick as a controller. I plugged it into the PS3 and it worked but then when i tested it on the xbox again it did the same thing. I plugged it into the pc to test it and it says device not recognized despite the fact I am holding down mp.” Do you know what might be causing this? Would save me alot of tinkering and my friend some money if you did thx.

ok so i have an xbox 360 te-s stick with a teasy strike s board and a sparky jr pwm with arc eye 2’s in it and I’ve had i for a while now and it has been working fine but all of a sudden today teasy stopped working on my ps3.The ps3 either doesnt recognize it at all or it says it is an unknown device. If i plug it into the computer and hold down MP it recognizes it as the TE fightstick but if i try and do any other force mode it doesnt recognize it at all. I’ve tried reflashing it but i keep getting an error saying HID device not found and i tried going into the configurator to see if maybe it would recognize it but the little red light icon on the right just stays red instead of going green even while i hold select as told to do so while plugging in the stick. Any help? i think i am on firmware 3.3 which i put on there before the bug was found.

I’m having the same issue as Avj29’s friend. I last played on a PS3, and I got home today and plugged it into my 360, the light flashes for a brief second, then it turns off and it won’t recognize it. When I plug it into my PC it makes the USB noise, recognizing the device, and when I initially plugged it in today it brought up a little “Software Installed” bubble, like the firmware was updated or something. I went into GGPO to see if it would recognize me mapping buttons in PS3 mode, but it won’t even do that.

When I go into the Controllers menu, it -does- recognize the controller as a Dual Strike (PC). For what it’s worth.

try holding MP when plugging into a pc or a 360

I held MP, on PC it’s still bringing it up in Dual Strike mode, and on 360 it’s not recognizing it at all.

sounds like your pins are not lined up to the usb points on the 360 board, or the passthru is jacked

Try to reflash the board, the instructions/links are in the OP. Let me know if that fixes the issue.

I reflashed as per the instructions, the .bat file ran to completion, but it’s still only recognizing it in Dual Strike mode, no 360. When I last used it, on a PS3, I hadn’t been holding down HK for the forced detection, is it possible that the auto detection is stuck on PS3 mode?

On PS3 you won’t want to hold HK anyway, that’s PC mode. LK is PS3 mode.

So you’re saying even with MP being held down when plugging it into PC/360 it doesn’t recognize it as even “unknown,” now that you’ve re-flashed, what happens with auto-detection on the 360 itself? Same deal or does it blink a few times and just not show up?

When I hold MP down and plug it in on the PC, the 360 guide button flashes for a second but then turns off. In the controller menu, it’s listed as Dual Strike (PC). When I plug it into the 360, it flashes for a second, turns off, and isn’t recognized at all. I’ve tried every combo of LK, MP, and HK in both the PC and the 360, and nothing seems to get it to work.
