Nothing has come in the mail still
I have an odd problem. I installed a TEasyStrike S a little while back and it went smoothly. Today I installed an optical joystick into my TE and the stick no longer works on 360. On pc I can force 360 mode by holding MP, but neither autodetect or forcing on 360 works. Any ideas?
no hate here. Iâll hopefully be getting all the required parts in real soon and Iâm finalizing quotes from the fab/assembly house. As soon as I drop everything off Iâll fire off an update to the mailing list
Damn Canada PostâŚugh, Purplearms is still waiting on something that I sent to him about the same time as I sent your board out as well :/. Hang tight for now, I promise everything was in order when I dropped it off. Itâs just slow as hell at times. AlsoâŚinternational packages are being scrutinized to all hell due to whatâs happening in Japan, believe it or not. The lady at the post office was telling me theyâre on high alert for any international packages (I was picking up one from Taiwan, thatâs why she said something). It may or may not have an effect on even things going to Canada.
Hmm, youâll need to give me a little more information.
- Does it still fuction in the other modes, as in PC/PS3 (HK/LK) modes on your computer and PS3 mode on your PS3?
- On PC, in forced 360 mode, do the properties show response of all buttons/joystick directions?
- When trying it on your 360 what specifically happens? No lights, or do they just flash on and off constantly?
- What optical joystick? Ascii? Spark prototype?
- How did you install it, as in, where did you hook up the power and ground?
Stick still functions in other modes. PC shows directional input from both PC and in the forced 360 mode. All buttons also work in forced 360 mode. PS3 also works fine.
When I plug into the 360 the lights all flash once, then nothing afterward. This happens both when I plug in normally and when trying to force 360.
The joystick is a flash1, using the ground from the normal harness coming from the TE and the power is twisted together with the excess usbvcc wire coming from the TE pcb.
Edit: When disconnecting the power to the flash the controller autodetects as normal, it just does not like the flash getting power for some reason.
ordered one of these bad boys, solderless = sold, haha, canât wait!
This was going to be my next question actually, youâve already answered .
I think itâs just not liking âwhereâ youâre pulling the power from, not so much that youâre pulling power for the FLASH. Basically think of the current as a flow of water, youâre pulling the 5v power from the point at which the TE PCB itself it getting itâs energy from, so essentially youâre re-directing some of the needed power to your FLASH. Now, inherently this is OK since the traces on the PCB are thick enough to carry the current required by both parts, but on power up for a microchip tends to not be too fond of itâs main power source having interrupted current flow. The 360 is far more strict about timings than the PC seems to be, therefore on PC you can force it but on 360 you canât.
In other words, pull VCC from either Pin 1 of the breakout header or shove the bare wire (if itâs small enough) into the connector that has VCC/GND/D3/D4/D5/D6. I suggest highly to grab it from Pin 1 of the breakout header if possible though, thatâs as directly attached to the main USB line as it gets.
Got the order, packed up and it will be in the mail tomorrow. Thanks!
I used a connector I had lying around to get power from pin 1. Unfortunately this yields the same results as the previous method. Another bit of interesting information that may possibly be helpful: The stick works if I let it be recognized, and then plug the flash in after this point. It plays as would be expected. Whatâs odd though is when the 360 is turned off, even if the stick is not unplugged, it wonât ârememberâ its 360 setting and will not work again until I unplug the flash.
This is cohesive with my thoughts on your 360 board being hella sensitive on power up. The FLASH might be power hungry, Iâm not real sure as Iâve never worked with one. Perhaps the flash in conjunction with the 2 PCBs is just too much inrush current to allow for a timing sensitive startup like the 360 requires. I wonder if youâd see the same results with a different 360 PCB, hmmâŚ
Let me chew on this one for a little bit and Iâll get back to you.
Thanks Clayton! I just received the TSS today and installed it. It works great and was a very easy installation.
Ok thanks for the info. Nothing still has come in the mail though Iâm starting to get worried as itâs almost been a month now since itâs shipped out. Usually these problems arise with UPS and not USPS haha. I always liked USPS shipping. Just incase, what happens if it doesnât come before the 45 days for paypal? Will I be able to get a refund or is it just a lose/lose situation?
Ya canada post sucks⌠dont worry itâll get there⌠i still havent gotten my package yetâŚ
Got here today!!! Canât wait to install it but itâll have to wait after I finish my project
I guess iâll post on behalf of PhreakâŚ
If youâre a member of the google group for PhreakMods, Phreak sent out an email today about the availability of the new TEasy Strike. He stated that he has sent off a shipment of parts and boards to the production house, and will hopefully have some new stock in within about 10 days. Definitely good news for everyone (like me) waiting to get the goods for the upcoming tournaments.
Mine just got here too. Must be the same mailman XD
Awesome, have fun!
ManâŚin those cases you can barely see the board⌠I kind of like that
Good stuff, I really wonder if even international packages heading to Canada from the US are being scrutinized like crazy⌠it would explain the increase in time, thatâs for sure.
Yes, thank you for this. Iâve been rather busy lately and completely forgot to do this. Iâm going to put in the OP how to sign up for the email list for those interested.
People can also sign up from my website, thereâs now a spot for it on the right hand side.
Alright, Iâve been using the TEasy Strike fine, but up until recently, my stick just went completely dead during a game, and wonât respond anymore. Guide button does not light up no matter what, for 360/PS3/PC.
I figured maybe it became a little bit unaligned or something, but I checked the pin alignment again twice and still nothing. Also checked out every little wire and connection multiple times and canât seem to spot anything wrong.
Do you have any idea what might cause this? Itâs a Round 1 TE if that makes any difference.
Hmm⌠it may not be an alignment thing (doubt it actually, if itâs been working prior). Unclip the 360 board from the TEasy and plug the TEasy into your PC by itself. If it doesnât come up the chip might have just weirded out, if thatâs the case just send it back to me. Iâll replace the chip, re-test, and ship it back out to you within 24 hours, should get to you a few days after.
I messed with it a little more today. On my PC, it actually does pickup that itâs plugged in, but all it says is âUSB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.â I tried this with and without the 360 board clipped in, same message for both. When I plugin my other unmodded TE, it shows up as a 360TE like normal.
It still does not function at all on 360/PS3. While I had it plugged in, I tried aligning it once more just incase, and noticed that the guide button would light up very briefly right when I aligned the pins, but then continue to not function/respond. Should I go ahead and send it back?
Yeah, just shoot me an email clayton@phreakmods.com
Iâll send you my addy and get an RMA done as fast as the mail will carry it.
Installed it today finally! I must say it was really easy to do. My PC detected while holding down HK and works on my 360. Is there anyways to see if the PS3 part works without an actual PS3?
Thanks for making such an awesome dual mod!
