Cutting it close to the PCB just makes for cleanliness and also allows you more wire to strip for the screw terminals. The red goop is epoxy that the factory puts on the screws to prevent them from coming loose, you can actually grip it with some needle nose pliers and pull it away. The waxy stuff is another thicker adhesive that dries clear and stiff, kind of like hot glue. It’s to prevent strain on the wires once their soldered in place and also to protect the solder spots. Once you cut the wire just pull the wires apart from each other.
For now, import only. bencao74 is sending me some more so that I can package them together and save customers some shipping monies, but currently I’m out of stock. Yes, V2 is the one you want to use if you wish to go the Dual Strike route.
ChImp SMD = Auto-detection of the console, the set up will look nearly identical to the one in the OP but you’ll have screw terminals for everything instead of 6 lines soldered. Dual Strike is a faster and potentially cleaner install. The choice of which to use is completely up to you, but currently both options are 100% solderless.
Yeah that’s basically it, except from experience, I would actually seat the Dual Strike first so that you’ve got some more room to move around, and then install the TEasy and attach the 360 PCB. The TEasy process takes 30 seconds if you’ve done the prep work.
If by exposed wires you mean the remains of what you’ve clipped from the 360 PCB, then leave those alone, it will look just like This when it’s seated in the TEasy if done correctly. If you clip them close and clean, that’s perfect and they don’t need any further playing with. The TEasy relies on touching the solder joints on the bottom of the PCB so don’t mess with them after you’ve clipped the USB cable away. The thicker black wire, or shielding ground, can be left floating. Just make sure to clip it a bit so that there’s no frayed wires hanging from the insulation.
Absolutely, Round 1/2 TE’s and SE’s both have the same PCB.
Thanks for the reply, man.
Do you have any idea if you’re going to order more from bencao74 before, say, November? I have a bit of vacation time and wouldn’t mind doing this as one of my “projects” while I vegetate around the house. And I’d much prefer to just get everything from one source – easier that way and then it removes all doubt of what I need to order. My only question is how will I know if you do order/receive more dual strikes and have them in stock to sell the package deal?
corrosivefrost, yeah I should have some more in fairly soon here. I’ll put an update in the thread when I get them.
They should, even if they don’t…the height on the standoffs in the SE more than make up for not having the spacers in there anyway.
Not necessarily, I’m going to need more information though. If the rest of the buttons work it’s not likely it’s seated wrong.
Does this happen on a specific mode? PS3/360?
What happens when you plug it into your PC and test it through the control panel? Do you see the buttons light up at all, if they blink, do they only light up when you release the button?
This happens for both modes, and when testing through the control panel, the start and select button don’t light up at all, every other button does though however. This is with a Teasy S v1.0 and a Dual Strike PCB v2 firmware v1.8 on a TE-S stick if that helps out.
I suppose the first thing to do is to unclip the 360 PCB and check the TEasy to make sure that all the pogos are in place and that the two didn’t accidentally fall out during the install. If they’re all in place, grab a multimeter and check continuity between the back and start pins on the TEasy and the end header back and start positions, the pinout is listed in the OP. I don’t see how there wouldn’t be continuity, but being thorough is never a bad thing.
If there’s continuity, then re-seat the TE PCB and then test continuity with the end header again to make sure that there’s solid contact between the two PCBs.
Hey phreak, got my boards a couple of days ago and just got around to cracking this box open. Half an hour later, I’m set to go without a single hiccup. These things are incredible!
Thank you for providing us with these boards! I’ll definitely have to get with you again should another dual mod have to take place.
Marcus
From my understanding, this mod makes it so that you dont have to solder wires from the PCB to the dual strike(or any other one)?
Also, Ive been to the dual strike thread but im still a little lost there as well, the dual strike works with the PS3 right off the bat? or would i have to wire a PS3 PCB to the dual strike, and then wire a 360 PCB to the dual strike as well(Which the TEasy makes an easy and solderless job)?
TEasy Mod makes for no soldering for Dual Mod when use with Dual Strike.
Also because the features of new SMD ChImp, that is also 100% No Solder Dual Mod.
Dual Strike IS a PlayStation 3 PCB.
So I’ll let you think about that.
TEasy Mod makes for no soldering to the actual Xbox 360 TE PCB.
The TEasy Mod clips onto the TE PCB.
Soldering to the other PCB would be required depending on what you use.
I have to vouch for the awesomeness of this setup with a TEasy & Dual Strike.
I’ve done about 5 dual mods and this was by far the fastest. Less than an hour after opening up the TE S, I had installed the TEasy and Dual Strike, as well as upgraded and reconfigured the dual strike firmware.
The only thing I dislike is the thinness of the stranded wires madcatz uses in their USB cables and screwing them into the terminals. I may go back and solder those connections, but regardless this was by far the easiest dual mod I’ve done. The 1:1 cable connection between the TEasy and the DS makes this the fastest dual mod around.
You guys should make sure you can sell them as a package.
Thanks for the kind words, I’m proud of what these guys are able to do for people, and be assured that we’re working hard on making it even easier. Specifically the whole packaging deal them together deal. I try as best I can to keep at least a small stock of DS boards on hand, international constraints inhibit that, but hopefully soon we won’t have to deal with the delay that shipping to each other can cause.
*Just a quick announcement
I’ll be at Season’s Beatings 5, taking place the weekend of Oct. 15th. If you are attending, or have a friend who’s attending, I’m selling TEasy Mods (both S and non S versions) for a flat $30 while I’m there. I may have a few DS boards with me to sell as a kit, but how many I can’t say since most of my stock is already spoken for.
Buying a board or not, feel free to stop me and shoot the shit. I’ll make sure I have my name tag has a label of sorts on it, and I’ll probably be wearing my Team Tech Talk polo for at least one day (not all, Carolina blue looks like shit on me, and it’s a tad big too ).
I’ll do like EVO and put up a twitter with updates on where I’m at, this time It’ll be a generic one that I’ll have from now on.
