Official Street Fighter IV FightSticks & FightPad Thread (More on the way!)

I don’t think they do hardware anymore, do they?

yea I know :frowning:

But would it be cool to have a Joystick & a Saturn Controller for the PS3 & the 360. I would buy one

Use the same button layout/spacing as the Vewlix SF IV cabinet.

Use the same button layout/spacing as the Vewlix SF IV cabinet.

Use the same button layout/spacing as the Vewlix SF IV cabinet.

Obviously everyone here is just gonna mod the stick anyway to put in real Sanwa parts, so the only thing on your end that matters is giving a good (aka official SF IV cabinet) layout and clean PCB.

Its not that we doubt MarkMan or Seth, just that we doubt MadCatz. Remember the last arcade stick they made?

And I think the stick they made before that was the Dreamcast Panther XL:

I think we all are in ‘cautious optimism’ mode.

Not to be a hater, but isn’t it entirely possible that even with all of Seth’s and MarkMan’s hard work some bigwig at MadCatz just goes oh well this is too expensive, let’s make it crappy and cheap instead?

This = Win.

Maybe they’ll put a ball-top on that first stick you showed and call it a day :slight_smile:

I find MarkMan’s enthusiasm towards this stick reassuring and will wait to see what MadCatz will release.

would have been nice if madcatz commissioned toodles to design the pcbs.

you’d have the old school player s-kill, stick connoisseur markman, pcb master toodles ultimate sf4 stick design dream team. :looney:

(not to mention i’d bet toodles would figure a way to backdoor some downloadable free software to make the sticks work on ps3/360 :P)

Yes, yes I would. (but it would only be possible on the store branded 360 model)

Oh shit fuck damn. Oh shit oh shit oh shit. Ya know, I just might be able to. Just need to find 360 sticks and pads with identifiable microcontrollers, and I know that they exist. Lots of work, and I’d have to get the studying of the security done, but I think that could actually be done; it just depends on what if any tweaks happen to the security stuff as it goes through the microcontroller. If the check of the security chip isn’t tweaked/signed/hacked by the microcontroller before passing over to the security chip, that actually might be possible.

needs either sanwa or seimitsu stick and buttons, with quick disconnects, and at/below/around/slightly above the $100 price point. thats really all i want from it.

cause lemme tell you sanwa stick and hori knockoff buttons in a plastic case are NOT worth over 200 dollars.

Me thinks Markman hyping the efforts behind the stick warrants some merit in this case. If he was behind the scenes offering up his knowledge and Madcatz weren’t listening then i’d have to assume he wouldn’t even be posting in this thread…I mean if this stick is a terrible mess he’s going to have a lot of explaining to do on this board :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for giving him the info to defeat your master plan. :rofl:

I know of course the issues of costs and what not are always a factor, but to Markman or Seth or anyone involved, could you use quickdisconnects instead of soldering wires directly to buttons? If these sticks end up being the real deal and get the use that they should, there will eventually be a point where parts will need to be replaced and having buttons soldered directly to wires (or god forbid directly to the pcb!) makes for maintenence a real pain in the butt. I’ve gone thru 4 360 hori sticks simply because I didn’t wanna bother trying to replacing ONE button in those damn things.

Hey, the panther XL is a great controller…

…for those still waiting on a home port of Midway’s THE GRID for dreamcast!

actually it looks real shitty.

I can’t really see where using QDs would be cost affective, but I feel your pain here.

$60 pcb surrounded by plastic shit

Hah, I didn’t know MarkMan works at Mad Catz! That + Seth Killian = 100% faith. Can’t wait to see these things. :tup:

Holy hell Toodles I can’t believe how good you are at… everything, hahah. :lovin:

Quite frankly;

  1. If it doesn’t use a genuine Sanwa or Seimitsu stick (JLF/JLW/LS-32) and have an overall good build quality, it’s as good as forgotten by the serious 2d/3d fighter community.

  2. If it doesn’t have genuine Sanwa or Seimitsu buttons, it better be easy to mod with QD’s, or it still going to be disregarded as a toy for the average consumer.

  3. Finally, it needs a high quality PCB - if it suffers from input lag or the Virtua Stick High Grade “no more than 3 buttons at a time” issue it’s going to be laughed at.

Despite the fact enthusiasts and hardcore fighter fans are involved in the development, I have next to no faith that it’ll be a product worth considering. I’m almost certain none of the above 3 points will be fulfilled and that “cost effective” parts will be used (shit, basically).

The only reason I could see myself buying one is if the shell is built well and the Street Fighter art is awesome - then there’s a small chance I might be bothered ripping out the guts and put my HRAP3 inside.

Dude, did you ever play a fighting game on the Sega Genesis Controller? Anything shaped like a boomerang is asking to be thrown.

Wait, this doesn’t make sense why are we giving the same obvious suggestions to MarkMan and S-Kill, they themselves already know what makes up a good arcadestick hell MarkMan made a damn tier list in which was pretty damn accurate. MarkMan himself reviews arcade sticks, we are in safe hands, and if MadCatz had a half a brain or even the 10% of one, they would damn know to follow MarkMan and S-Kill, so lets just stop the paranoia about ‘OMFG MADCATZ’ and lets see what the turnout is. We aren’t Kotaku, we’ll actually buy arcade sticks unlike those guys over there who just criticize and mindlessly follow someone’s rumours and gossip.
