Official Starcraft Thread

Intel-Averatec Classic aka TG-Sambo Classic aka the GOM tournament grand finals tonight (18:00 Korean time):
Flash (T) v. Jaedong (Z), the final fanboys who can’t bear the thought of other players being better than these two have been waiting for.

Map order-
Blue Storm (36.2% TvZ)
Othello (63% TvZ)
Katrina SE (50% TvZ)
Colosseum (75% TvZ)
Blue Storm (36.2% TvZ)

Just based on maps, Jaedong should win on Blue Storm (twice) and Flash should win on Othello and Colosseum; of course map balance/imbalance isn’t the only thing that decides a series, but if everything more or less plays out according to map balance, Katrina SE is the swing map; assuming both win their favored maps, whoever wins on Katrina takes the gold.

Blue Storm… Jaedong has been brilliant on this map in the past, and while they adjusted the map to make it a bit more friendly for T/P (causing P to run away with the new iteration of the map), he certainly hasn’t been a slouch on the new version. Flash is no slouch himself on Blue Storm; the two have split games on Blue Storm. Jaedong is 13-9 (most of his losses coming this season, only ONE individual league loss on Blue Storm)… Flash is 13-7 (most losses from last season). Worth noting since Jaedong’s ZvT “slump” coincides with the introduction of heavily T-favored maps, including a rebalanced Blue Storm- last season, Z ran the show on Blue Storm to the point that the recent surge of T wins against Z on this map have only brought the overall TvZ winrate to 36%.
BUT… this season, T is 53.8% on Blue Storm 1.2 (contrast to 32.1% on Blue Storm 1.1). Worth noting.

Othello and Colosseum are Zerg burial ground. Those two maps helped seal Jaedong’s fate against fOrGG before reaching the relatively untested (but seemingly balanced) Athena, and if Flash is smart he’ll abuse these maps for all they’re worth. Flash is a brutal 10-2 on Othello… and a much more human 6-5 on Colosseum. Lecaf wisely didn’t play Jaedong a lot on these maps, but he’s 4-1 on both (all games in individual leagues, with the single loss on each coming from fOrGG).

Katrina SE should be the determining match, and how appropriate that is. Katrina is the map that Jaedong finished off Stork to walk the Royal Road, turning into a ZvP beast to rival July. Katrina is the map where Flash broke through from cheese Terran to ULTIMATE WEAPON, unleashing his metal TvZ strats and his double armory builds that finally broke the Katrina 2base carrier autowin button. Flash 13-2 on Katrina- losing his first game to Pusan (coincidentally he hasn’t played Pusan since) and losing a game to Jaedong. Jaedong went 10-2, both of his losses coming from Flash himself.
But this is Katrina SE, a map Flash hasn’t played on this season (why would he? KTF would just play him on Othello for the auto-win when possible, Colosseum for the edge if not), and a map that Jaedong is undefeated on this season. Do I think the difference between both versions will be huge? No, but it’s rather telling that Jaedong’s only losses on either version of Katrina have come from Flash.

The maps HEAVILY favor Flash but Jaedong has won way more than he’s lost on these maps as well.

Neither player is at the dizzying heights of their dominant streaks, but they aren’t exactly sucking either. Jaedong is still OSL cursed with his OSL run ending in offline prelims thanks to an up-and-coming Protoss (han, who is incidentally still in the running for an OSL berth) but both players are seeded into the MSL and pretty much smashing their way through WCG, and both players dispatched their GOM semi opponents with ease.

So get hype and let’s hope these guys deliver something better than their respective performances against fOrGG ;(

Jaedong vs Flash. Lets do this, Lemon Boy!

I want to try that shrimp avocado burger. also whoa @ tasteless having his own desk and camera!

Flash got owned pretty bad first game…waiting for the next game to start
Edit: Oh my god…Mutalisk rapage AGAIN. Wow.

hi jaedong mutas. omg vessel murder so nice. jaedong so good. JF on TL Attack in 7 hours!

WTF 2-0 and now the stream locks up!

edit:Back up

damn. Even though I’m a Flash fan, I gotta admit JaeDong really schooled him.

Flash even attacked his own firebat.

Jaedong totally dominated those games. I don’t think he was ever not in control.

looooool Jaedong taking a cue from fOrGG in games 1-2 with the sick muta timing attack (2hatch instead of 3hatch against Terran FE openings). Good to see Jaedong sticking to his scary scary lair play for those games.
As much as I disliked Jaedong’s string of fast-hive ZvT games, I have to admit that I really liked the turbo hive into fast ultra/guardian. Jaedong remains undefeated on Katrina SE, by the way.

As for Flash… too bad he wasn’t willing to pay for a few extra turrets.

Any of you guys saw TL Attack?

Pvp Fpvod with some sort of commentary. He got 150+ eapm. :]

JF owning up on random dudes at the end, scouting probe wins the game, protoss 2 ez ;( lol

WCG update-
Ro8 day 1
Jaedong (Z) v. BeSt § - 2-1 WLW

Game 1 - Blue Storm - lings run by one cannon and like one goon, kill stargate before first sair pops, lol sup gg
Game 2 - Troy - some lurker/ling all-in, Jaedong ggs after it fizzles out to BeSt’s defense (and when he sees reavers and he has no economy or overlords left)
Game 3 - Othello - Jaedong snipes like 2-3 shuttles with reavers and just rolls over BeSt with like 7 bases to BeSt’s 3.

GN-STX Masters Cup 2008
Playoffs - SKT T1 vs. Samsung Khan - 4-3 SKT T1
**Bisu ** § v. Stork §
Bisu § v. Frozean (T)
HyuK (Z) v. Frozean (T)
Canata (T) v. Frozean (T)
BeSt § v. Frozean (T)
Best § v. firebathero (T)
Best § v. JangBi §

looool at Frozean- cheesing Bisu and HyuK, getting hella lucky against Canata and riding his advantage to a win… then getting rolled by Best.
Then lol at FBH coming in against Best, wtf. He got rolled as expected.
Best v. JangBi… nice comeback from Best, then he just steamrolled through JangBi’s inferior macro.

I come back from EVO to find that my days of being a Flash fanboy look to finally be over. Sad that he’d go out like that.

Also…wtf@them sending out FBH vs. a Protoss. They should know better by now.

ahahaha so I just watched fOrGG’s post-MSL-finals interview, guy seems pretty chill/funny-

reporter - "what’s your strategy for the next MSL"
fOrGG - "I’m going to pick a weaker player/race for my group…"
reporter - "who do you think will be an easy opponent and who will you pick for the next MSL season?"
fOrGG - “everybody is tough… I beat Flash pretty easily, so maybe I’ll pick him” (LOL, fOrGG and the audience all laughed too)

after both of those he said something to the effect of “I haven’t really thought about it yet” but still… good stuff lol.

also “awww” moment when he was like “my parents wanted me to win so I feel like a good son for winning” lol, also giving the winnings to his parents.

Apparently fOrGG was originally supposed to end up with the OGN Sparkyz, but a Lecaf coach scouted him and brought him to Lecaf; “if it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here.”

WCG update-
Flash (T) v. Much § - 2-1
**
Flash** (T) v. Much § on Blue Storm - Much fails proxy HARD but almost wins until he does the push ever
Flash (T) v. Much § on Troy - Much with EE HAN TIMING reavers stomps on Flash’s biomech
Flash (T) v. Much § on Andromeda - wtf @ this game

OSL Ro32 group E later tonight-
same map order as usual-
Plasma
Return of the King
Andromeda

SangHo § v. NSP_Jojoba (Z)
winner v. Mind (T)

Wow, Much is on a tear. Where was this Much before?

edit:
As much as a Flash fan I am, I have no clue why he’s become so predictable with his build. His nickname used to be CHEDDAR TERRAN. What happened? lol

Did Flash do the same build over and over again?

What you think? Muta > Flash it pretty simple. Someone should of had a sign that said

“TURRET NIGGA TURRET”

whoops I was talking about the wrong game ahha my bad yea that much game was pretty bleh to.

game 1 - 1rax FE since he pulls like all of his SCVs to kill proxy gates and has his gas stolen, goes into fairly standard macro mode for the rest of the game without too big an advantage despite defusing a 2gate proxy, really only wins because Much does a really bad attack.
game 2 - biomech that does pretty well and is pushing the nat but then EE HAN TIMINGU reavers come and rape him and it’s gg
game 3 - 1fact FE into a billion turrets to stop DT/reaver drops, in fact prevents those drops, but Much wins battles and pulls ahead in bases and eventually out-macros him… then doesn’t out-macro him (lol Much with 9k minerals at one point, but also sitting on nearly maxed army). Much eventually does something with his maxed army and picks off expos, Flash’s counter gets stalled by DTs before Much’s army returns to clean it up, gets rolled by a bunch of recalls.
