OGN offline preliminaries are for the OSL… or rather, for the ODT (quals to get into the actual OSL) though apparently they’re changing up the format for the ODT? The players who made the Ro16 from this past OSL are already seeded into the ODT/OSL, with the top 4 seeded into the Ro16 of the OSL while the rest are seeded into the ODT, thus getting to skip the offline qualifiers.
Of course this means that, no matter what you think of BackHo, he’s guaranteed a spot in the next OSL and guaranteed a spot in the next ODT to have another close shot into the OSL should he fall short of top 4 like he usually does. I think they’re modifying the exact format to combine the ODT and OSL (or ODT and offline quals, I forget what was being said lol).

HanbitSoft pulled their sponsorship of Hanbit Stars, but ItemMania (Korean company that deals with item transactions in MMOs LOL) stepped in as their new sponsor. New name announcement pending.

Looking at TL.net, the MBC offline quals are going on RIGHT NOW, but here are some results-

CD note - Isn’t it normally top 8 seeded into MSL, though? Unless they changed something, these guys round out the top 8:

OSL round 1 schedule is up, first group is August 4. 12 groups of 3 players, 12 people advance to meet the top 4 from the last OSL in the Ro16, aka when we start caring.
All matches 2/3, map order is Plasma, Return of the King, Andromeda. Plasma and Return of the King are new maps, I suppose! Andromeda as the closer… T > Z > P > T balance so who knows how things will play out.
lol only 10 zergs left in the OSL already, with July and Lux as two of them; two of them matched up against Hwasin in a group; no Jaedong… not a good season for Zerg??

Man Nada is TERRIBLE vs. DArk Templar rush. I havent’ seen him win against that in months it seems. At least 4 to 5 losses to it in a row.

yeah dunno what’s up with his TvP, he always seems to skimp on the e-bay and/or academy despite not scouting long enough to see if that’s a good idea… or even after scouting the possible DT rush. I wouldn’t say he’s terrible in general against it, what with him having won 3 OSLs… just currently, something isn’t clicking for him. Hopefully that something will click soon, since he has a shot to qualify for both leagues.

yeah overall he’s not terrible in it but lately he keeps playing as if he’s going against reavers. Pretty much every game. At least with DT turrent placement you can still chase the reaver around and potentially kill him that way. with DT’s it’s pretty much GG once they land if you got reaver turrent placement.

Speaking of TvP, NINETEEN Terrans in the MSL Survivor round, making for 21 Terrans still in the running for the MSL (19 Survivor + 2 seeds from the last MSL). 12 Protoss in Survivor with only Much seeded into Ro16 from his MSL performance (13 total).

For the OSL, 13 T’s in the Ro32, none seeded to Ro16. 15 P’s, 2 seeded to Ro16- 17 total in the running for the OSL.

Ro16 play started last night, so here’s the bracket and results thus far

August 5:
free § v. Jaedong (Z) 0-2 - RAPE
July (Z) v. Luxury (Z) 1-2 - July just gave it away in the last game

August 6:
BackHo § v. Stork § - rematch time! Will Stork lose to DT rush AGAIN? What a wonderfully uninspiring matchup between two players who just need to go away.
JangBi § v. Mind (T) - could go either way; JangBi is on the rise, Mind is inconsistent lately. Also of note- JangBi PvT is 68.97% (20-9), with at least one win on every notable Terran player today (except fOrGG lol); Mind TvP is 57.14% (12-9), with losses to like, Tester or whoever… but he also halted Bisu in his prime. Should be interesting, depending on which version of Mind shows up.

August 7:
Much § v. BByong (T) - Much, who just annihilated FBH, against the CJ B-teamer who beat Kal. Interesting match in that they’re both from CJ and BByong is pretty much a training partner as far as I can tell; is BByong familiar enough with Much’s play to pull a fOrGG on his teammate?
BeSt § v. Dream.t)M18M § - BeSt against M18M, Samsung B-teamer who beat Sea. Best looked pretty okay putting down Kwanro, and he’s pretty much the best PvP, so it should be a relatively easy win for Best.

August 8:
Rumble (Z) v. Flash (T) - aka why didn’t they just give Flash a bye? Hopefully Rumble will prove a bit more difficult than that
fOrGG (T) v. Bisu § - fOrGG the macro timing TvP monster vs. a not-yet-in-form Bisu. Fun fact - Bisu has never beaten fOrGG in a a televised game. But it’s SC, anything can happen; maybe Bisu can elevate his current game and stop the fOrGG steamroller.

Not going to Evo because it isn’t worth that kind of money to just play in a side tournament and loke test some games I’ll be playing in a few months anyhow.

Not much to say about this group, went about as expected- Flash rolled Rumble, Bisu couldn’t keep up with fOrGG’s macro.
Unfortunately for fOrGG, right after this he had to run off and play in…

Shark (Z) v. fOrGG (T) - 2-1
Much § v. fOrGG (T) - 2-1

Shark is a pretty well known sniper for MBCGame HERO, couldn’t get it done… but he did take a game with a fairly creative build.
Incidentally, for those who didn’t catch it- fOrGG played EIGHT TELEVISED GAMES in one day. 2 WCG, Unfortunately for him, Much doesn’t suffer from Bisu’s combination of recovering-from-a-slump-syndrome and shaky PvT (PvT is Much’s best matchup). Much played pretty well, fOrGG played okay but just couldn’t seem to come up with the spark to finish out his eigth consecutive game of the day. Too bad but that’s qualifying rounds for you, at least he’s in good company- Jaedong is also out of this OSL!

Proleague grand finals are tomorrow night, I’d say get hype but I don’t know how anybody can be hype for Samsung Khan.
