Official SSF2T: HD Remix General Discussion Thread

thnks alot man i appricate it^^

Does it look like T.Hawk’s new dive would recover within Zangief/T.Hawk’s command grab range?

Source?

One of the video interviews he gave, I think. He mentioned it as an example of adding something ā€œfunā€ that wasn’t going to screw with the balance. He didn’t say what the actual change was.

Seriously, take like 0.1 seconds to think of like 50 other reasons why Vega is stupid good in ST. There’s your answer.

What exactly does this ā€œsmoothingā€ do ?

Anyone have anything specific? something with rollback?

Isn’t smoothing the addition of slight input delay in order to keep the animation consistent? Or am I thinking of something else?

Changes the interval at which the packets are sent.

Lowering the interval means more frequent syncs and less roll back. Raising the Interval for higher pings means less syncs, but also decreased throughput and less packet loss that causes jerky rollback.

That code is a pretty hacky way to do it, though I’m sure they’ll put it in the menu option. I hope they allow you to set the smoothing right before you you start playing with someone. An autodetect for smoothing would be awesome too.

I think it’s more of a perceptual smoothing. See here on thier explantion:

Well I was assuming they were using GGPO’s adjustable frame delay.

To assume makes an ass out of u and me

the 2.0 beta is giving me problems trying to join a session. anyone else experiencing this?

After playing with the new patch (and getting my ass handed to me by cigarbob) I’m 100% sure that there are dropped inputs online. I was messing around offline and everything came out perfectly. As soon as I go online, the dropped inputs are immediately noticeable, as even things like Hadoukens and Hurricane Kicks are refusing to come out half of the time.

I don’t know if everyone else experiences this, but I can say definitively that I do.

Im very disappointed with this update. LeRaldo I’m not sure if you are right all i know is that its just not right and I really dont even care any more.

FUCK THIS SHIT!! Back to not playing SF!

I had problems joining matches on Ranked and Player. The lag was no better than the last version. I’m so apathetic about this i really dont care if they fix it or not.

yeah i was in that room LeRaldo and I noticed some funky things going on!!!

Not sounding too good so far:shake:

Did anyone try the code to disable smoothing?

Just curious if it helps or makes a difference at all. I think smoothing on GGPO adds input lag to compensate, could be wrong though.

It’s definitely better than before… just not by much. Laggy games still have some warping and tremendous amounts of slowdown.

And for the record, SSFIIT:HDR’s smoothing is not in any way like GGPO’s smoothing.

Yeah, I wouldn’t really know. I have smoothing to zero on GGPO, and can’t even remember the last time I had rollback. Living in Hawaii, that is amazing. I hope they still keep tweaking the code for this, I really want it to be good. At this point I’m not hoping for GGPO good, just somewhat close and I’ll be happy.

Well, I’m not expecting GGPO level netcode, but I sure am hoping for it, haha. I mean, don’t get me wrong. SSFIIT:HDR’s netcode, as it is this very moment, isn’t bad. It just doesn’t compare with GGPO, at all.

Like you said, hopefully they wont stop here and will continue to make it better.

The unfortunate thing about being in a remote location like Hawaii is that unless you’re also playing someone in Hawaii, the nearest place you can connect to is someone in Cali and the lowest ping you can hope for is around 90ms. People living on the mainland have far better choices (even with poor netcode) since they have the option of picking people in the same state or bordering states considering they’re not surrounded on all sides by a large body of ocean.

Imo unless this turns out to be near GGPO quality, the few of us stuck in Hawaii (and people in other isolated areas as well probably) is out of luck. It’s fustrating really since I had high hopes for this and I’d been planning on getting a next generation system just to play this. I’m still hoping for the best as they continue to work on the netcode, and we’ll see I guess.

I got a few matches in today and while I know I was feeling pretty off today, some things I knew should have came out… didn’t come out. So, while I haven’t really tested it online all that much with the hour or so of playing it, it kinda does feel that some of my inputs were getting dropped, even more so now than in the previous version. This is just all initial observation though and again, I’m kinda off today and tired as heck, lol

I can’t say I like the smoothing because it’s just a visual thing, it isn’t gonna help high-pinged games be more playable or anything. At this point, I’m really no longer interested in the netcode because I just simply gave up on trying to compare this to GGPO, instead I’m just waiting to see how the final product looks like, just play locally for serious matches and play online for funsies. Granted, yes this pretty good on it’s own with how the netcode is but then you see GGPO and it’s kinda hard to not mention that.
