Official SSF2T: HD Remix General Discussion Thread

Didn’t Sirlin say that juggle problem was fixed before we even knew about it, it’s just that he had to submit an earlier version because Microsoft has a lengthy Q&A period?

Doesnt matter, either way we win  I can’t stop looking at your AV lol

Yeah and you can see it’s fixed in a combo video they released. All hits after the first DP do shit damage.

What the point of making new games if they all play the same?

I wish SRK could go 5 minutes without going all Chicken Little for once.

nope. he said it wasn’t a gameplay issue until day two of the beta, when we all noticed it. just like the speed wasn’t an issue until i brought it up and others noticed.

which makes me hope there’s either a second beta or there’s a major effort by pro ST players to make it out to the game studio to playtest the rest of the game. i’ve been trying for weeks and the major consensus is “i’m broke.” great. nobody to blame but ourselves…

this isnt a new game

huh?

Really where did he say that?

Yeah it is, Coum. It started out as the same game with new art, then it was gonna be ST just slightly rebalanced, and then at some point it became its own new game. In fact in my opinion a lot of the changes were made just to further bring home the point that this game is new. Why else bring in totally new things like fake fireball, crazy Guile roundhouse flash kick, Dictator fake slide, juggles all over the place, and un-banning a character? Those changes are clearly more about separating this game from ST than about addressing any balancing issues. I’m not sold on the idea, and maybe you aren’t either, but that’s what’s going on.

Edit: concerning below, I think that statement was made pretty early on in the process, and yeah, he pretty obviously changed his goal.

its an upgrade to an existing game  to me that says you dont go messing everything up. hell sirlin even said so in his first article…

Sometimes seems like he’s abandoned this philosophy though…

Sirlin has been working with top tourney players all along…

Can anyone just have a little faith? It’s not like ST will cease to exist after HDR is released. In fact, you can play it with nice graphics and sound now. So, even if you assume that the re-balanced version is somehow going to suck ass, you are still getting something cool out of this whole thing.

Yeah, I was under the impression Sirlin abandoned that idea too and we were just getting a new game, built around ST, along with regular old ST with Hi-Def graphics as well. There’s just too many changes to call it the same game anymore.

If the Ken dp stuff actually was found out after the fact like DSP says then I wouldn’t put too much trust in top players testing the game. I’d be more comfortable if a larger amount of people were able to test the full game like the top players were able to. I imagine that the version the top players were testing was HDRemix with ST sprites since the art isn’t done. If that’s the case then I can understand the decision to only have Ryu and Ken in the beta version. But it would have been more productive to at least allow willing players to choose the other characters with ST sprites so they can be tested as well. Hopefully the version that will be available at EVO will have all characters playable, regardless of the art not being done.

Feels like SF to me, and if usa speed 2 is in the final build i’m sure ryus fake fireball etc wont be such a concern.

DP thing should have been found by the guy who put it in… on paper, before turning on the game.

It’s insanely obvious. In fact, I doubt it was playtested at all.

Yeah, all these fucking morons flew out to Backbone and then just sat around and ate Twinkies all day. They’re all total n00bs, right?

You got some big fucking crybabies in this thread. I’m sure your experience in beta testing and game balance would have made all the difference, right? The fact is you’re never going to be able to get the same results with 10 people vs. 10,000. In a perfect world they could have done a full character beta but shit happens, and Live isn’t designed to do betas anyway (it was a small miracle they managed to give us one).
And on top of everything, they’re expecting a post-launch patch anyway, so if ridiculous shit makes it through it’ll be fixed.

I may be the first to say it and be in the minority, but I don’t care. I’m against patches. I like the idea of fixing your shit before it hits the market. I don’t like the idea of the game changing itself once I’ve gotten used to it, mainly because I don’t have much time to play games at all and patches that effectively change the way characters are played/make you relearn strategies would annoy me. I know most people would prefer patching to point blank broken shit, and I can’t say I completely disagree, but personally I’d rather they get it right and release it. No hate to sirlin and co since I know it’s not easy to do either way.

There’s a big difference between patching for bugs and patching for balance. Backbone’s already shown they are serious about making sure the netcode is right on release by the beta.

But it is simply impossible to do a balance test for any complex game with a small tester pool. You simply can’t replicate the time and diversity of skill involved. On release day this game will get more playtime than it ever saw during development.

Now, if this was a PC game Backbone could issue an endless stream of betas to test, but Microsoft has a closed system on Live that prevents that kind of freedom. Hell, I don’t even know if Live has the capability to force a game to delete off your hard drive. If they released a full character beta there would be a distinct possibility of people just keeping the beta and not bothering with the full product.

…that last statement is what leads me to believe that’s the big reason why there isn’t a large-scale full character beta test.

it’s quite unfortunate, but to make any kind of profit, most likely necessary.

Nos99 you are correct that Sirlin and his group knew that you could combo two strong DP’s of an anti air. But they were no aware that you could do it from a standing position as well. This was told to me by Sirlin and he was surprised to see that it could be done with both players on the ground.

I for one sure hope that we will have a bit of time to play test the full game before the final release. Maybe with some good players able to play it for a week or more we can find some potentially game breaking moves before the final release.

Well every time you log onto the Live the system itself tends to get auto updated at Microsoft’s own whims, Even with a full character beta, they could effectively make it so that the game could no longer be played online once the beta ends, And if you log onto live at any point beyond this point the system is prompt to download a System Update.

Microsoft has already in the past released System specific updates for the 360 that did nothing but correct a slight security issue.

And due to the nature of the game being stored on the HDD and not being a retail title pressed to DVD via a manufacturing or production plant, Even with those that tried to cheat the system by keeping a full character beta playing it exclusively offline, Backbone could easily fix this by disabling 2P VS Mode Offline via a “System Update” patch once the beta ends making the game effectively unplayable to competitive standard, forcing those who want the full experience having little to no choice but to buy the game.

Due to the closed nature of Xbox Live on the 360 unlike a PC, the forced updates can’t really be ignored, because the system forces the update once you attempt to log onto live…So it’s either live with a crippled version of the game, Or actually wait and purchase the real thing.

This is ALL being a hypothetical situation in case there ever was a full character Beta.
