Official SSF2T: HD Remix General Discussion Thread

Thanks for the info. Now I know what to ask for in a stick.

Way to equal saying nothing.

Is it great on the PC? Yes.

Is it working on anything else? No. If capcom just copied GGPO on console would it be as good? Not looking good so far with the beta.

If capcom involved Tony on the Remix could he help make it better? Probably!

Thats like saying, ā€˜hey…the sun rose on Monday but we’re not sure about this whole Tuesday business…’

I’ve seen you make the statement more then once and it really sounds like you are making excuses for the remix online code. ā€œIt only works on the PC - this whole console business is soooo different!ā€

And while you are correct about that - the fact that Capcom isn’t working with Tony just proves that they don’t know what they are doing or how to go about making decent network code.

So please - stop with the random excuse generator for remix online. Until you can come back and say, ā€˜Man - GGPO does work great on PC and Capcom tried working with Tony but this was the best that we could do’ then please add nothing more on this topic.

…it’s pointless. really, we’ve all tried.

If you don’t get the Honda hate, I don’t get the claim that he’s awesomely designed. To be honest, I think he is single-handedly the worst designed character in ST. He either turtles half the cast to death or dies to the other half by fireballs. Where is the ā€œradically different in so many matchupsā€ part? There’s only two choices he has. Granted, they are radically different from each other, but it’s still only those two with very slight variations between them. He kills Cammy, Fei Long, Zangief, T.Hawk, and Blanka in pretty much the exact same way. He dies to Ryu, Ken, Guile, and Dee Jay in pretty much the same way.

The only fights that stray from those formulas are Boxer (who has a Low Rush that is fast enough so that he can apply pressure and Honda can’t react and stop them easily) and Bison (whom Honda actively goes out and Ochios to death once Honda gets him into the corer). And in both of those examples, the fights are pretty boring and stale as they are (Boxer sits there and stand Jabs a lot and throws in occassional Low Rush, Bison just dies to Ochio).

Honda is easily one of (if not THE) most unbalanced characters in the game. I always joke to people that I could create a character that cannot move and does one pixel of damage to the opponent instantly at the start of the round and is invincible to everything except Fireballs, and he’d pretty much have the same ranking as Honda.

I don’t hate Honda as much as some others do. He was my favorite character in Classic through Hyper Fighting when we was actually more interesting. But I hate seeing what he was turned into in ST, and it always makes me get all riled up when I think about it. My Honda hate in ST comes more from the fact that I’m sad to see my original #1 character become such a poorly designed character.

When were these changes made?

I’ve only played GGPO twice, mostly because it doesn’t work with Vista properly (still has massive issues) but I’d like to know if something was changed. I’d consider trying it on my laptop again if there is no input dropping…

…works fine in Vista for me.

Honda’s a big fatty. Well…that’s the reason people hate him if they don’t really know anything about ST. Fat people get hated on.

He’s a turtle in some of his matchups, a rusher in others, and a zoner in the others; against some characters he wants to be a grappler, and against others he never wants to get close enough to throw; and he beats most of the low tier, loses to most of the mid tier, and goes more or less even with most of the top tier. And I find the Gief matchup pretty different from the Cammy matchup and the Guile matchup pretty different from the Ken matchup. I don’t think he’s boring or stale at all, I think a couple other characters in ST fit that bill way better than he does. Make him a bit less of a turtle, build up the characters he turtles against, and make him better against the characters he wants to rush in on, and voila, he’s pretty much good to go.

Edit: Good thing there are lots of characters in this game to choose from!

Yeah, I prefer playing Honda rushdown style anyway, as much that I do it against characters I shouldn’t. Though Honda is my main, I am not a huge fan of turtling, though it is pretty much a must vs. certain characters played by a good player.

I would be stoked if they made him less of a turtle, it’s actually what I’m hoping for. Though certain matchups seem hard to make him effective as a rusher, like Zangief, who the hell wants to get close to him anyway?

and DSP, give GGPO another go, it’s really a whole new ball game if you haven’t tried the last couple of builds, especially the newest one.

Netcode on the console has the potential to be MUCH better than GGPO thru an emulator. Reason being, there are A LOT less random factors involved. The fact that every single person is on the EXACT same hardware (the console) can make things a lot more consistnet Since you dont have to worry about people with crappy computers that cant play the game full speed, bogging your online experience down. With everyone being on the same hardware, it effectively just reduces potential problems down to the player’s ISP quality, their router and modem of choice.

They also have the code to the game, so they can implement the netcode directly into the game itself. You can’t do that with emulation.

Console netplay has the distinct luxury of everyone using the same hardware, making online play, potentially much better than pc, on the playability level, concerning lag. On top of that, it’s a lot more simple to deal with. Ask a majority of people that play on GGPO, if they knew what the hell to do to set it all up? I’ve had to help people for countless hours on where to get the roms, how to forward their ports, how to setup the emulator properly, then how to install xbcd drivers for special case xbox 360 pcb’s. and the list goes on and on. for a seasoned pc user, this only takes a few minutes, for a computer illiterate, this takes them an hour atleast, to setup, or longer, or they just give up and say ā€œit’s not worth it.ā€ Yet on console, they just pop the disc in and play. There are a lot of people that dont play on ggpo, or 2df, or kai p2p, cuz theydont know how the fuck to set it all up.

And that is the reality!

Hey not to change the subject off HDR (Am HYPED!!!) but when i try to use ggpo it says ā€œRetrieving Match Infoā€ and never moves past that. Eventually the othe rplayer leaves (Can’t blame em) and i cant seem to play anyone. I can’t even watch matches? Anyone know what the issue might be?

What? Where are the changes? I didn’t see a new blog post.

I heard that the Ochio was getting nerfed a while back, but that was kind of predictable.

I know the changes but dont know if they are final, You guys will be pleasantly surprised.

…stop giving us teasers! :shake:

Could ken link fierce DP after hurricane in ST? I thought it worked in HF…

he can combo after HK, but its VERY situational, and much harder overall

I’m sure you’re privy to more info than I am, but I heard the exact opposite a while back.

ummmmmm if you cant combo a chicken wing, that just means you dont have a move fast enough to hit after a chicken wing, that doesnt mean that its -1 on block.

I was assuming.

What about Feilong possibly sucking?
