Makoto’s going to land on any non-straight fireball, and by the time you can react to one going straight he’ll be able to block and punish. Tossing the U2 at that point is a random guess.

Not that anyone would use U2 against Gouken due to his basic inability to zone or…do anything really.

Well that’s Makoto, This doesn’t happen with Gen, I wouldn’t say he shuts down everyones antifireball ultra, Adon for example.

Well the reason I was talking about Makoto specifically is because (or I thought at any rate) that that was what was specifically being discussed.

on a side note i think this will be a lazy mans rebalance. no changes to move properties, just moving damage and health up and down

i cant see much work going into a freebee that’lll be out in less than 4 months from development

Feel free to call me out if you like, but I think Gouken is one of…maybe one characters that you need to know nothing other than his moves to beat. I’m sure he has some nifty tricks and some beefy dmg on a jump in, but…

His fireball game is lackluster. His fireballs do poor dmg and although they appear to be some of the fastest in the game this is generally meaningless in a game that continues to reduce their significance. He also lacks a 2hitter without making it the slowest fireball in the game which makes even focus advancing fairly viable.

He lacks a free advancing move. His idea of frame traps is reduced to one move[which has frames some chars have on jabs] and corner fireballs traps that don’t even combo let alone block string. Off of jabs he gets almost nothing as well. His moveset in general is like 20 million frames too slow. His Demon Flip mixup is just a way to get more jump ins and is pretty so-so as well.

His defense is null.

90 percent of the people posting here have no idea what balancing means. Most of you are lucky you can balance when you walk. This isnt a request to add skills to your character that your character was never intended to have. One idiot wants Cody to have a better back dash to help improve with his zoning. No, you learn to zone with the skills he has. Another dipstick wants RYU to have the same recovery as Guile does on his Sonic booms so he can, as he put it, “fireball trap”.

This is the kind of garbage that is being thrown around. The whining and crying instead of learning your character and figuring out how to best utilize their skills. This is why these games are a mess. Of the 25 pages here, about 4 are full of useful ideas and tweaks. The rest of it is total garbage.

And this is how he was intended. Either learn to use him or pick a new main. This isnt a “buff my main and nerf the others please!”. Even if they put him back to his pre AE or Vanilla Status, he isnt going to change drastically and he still plays largely the same way.

Oh fuck how he was intended to be. That’s a crap argument! Gouken is deficient, plain and simple. When is the last time you’ve seen any Gouken place anywhere even near the top in SF4, SSF4, or AE anywhere in the world? Never. That’s not for lack of trying. It’s because he has gaping holes in his gameplay. If you’re going to argue against buffing a character who’s never done well, at least back it up with more thought than “I have seen some damn good Gouken’s”.

Also, this is absolutely a thread to discuss both buffs and nerfs that could/should be made. Most people talk about their mains, since that’s who they feel the most knowledgable about. Sure, there’s crap info in this thread. And those posts are obvious to anyone with a brain. Here’s a pro tip - just ignore them and post constructive ideas or criticisms to rational posts.

I do not play Gouken, main or otherwise. I did in vanilla, but haven’t seriously considered it since. If the intent of your post is to say that the floor design of Gouken for Capcom followed was prefaced by 1) HE MUST SUCK MONKEY BALLS then…

There are what I’d call good Hakans, good Goukens, good Dans, players who really stick in the time and know their character inside and out. And yet nothing. All they get for their troubles is the odd youtube vid showing them beating Daigo online that one time. Are they good players? Great players? Yeah, sure. I remember the Kuroda thing. I dunno the timeline but at first he was the peoples champion of Q. Moved those skills to Akuma, you’ll be hard pressed to find someone better now. So wouldn’t you think that the character held him back? And then maybe Q coulda been better? That maybe the tools he had were like. Totally outclassed?

BS. It was your (who whoever uses him)personal choice to choose him and stick with his advantages and disadvantages. My point is this - people are requesting changes to completely change the complexion of their character to utilize strategies that their character is not desiged to employ, and that is absolute and total garbage. In a fighting game with a cast this large characters are ALWAYS going to be deficient, it is the players choice to choose who they wish to main and then master said character. Now it is all about whining to get a patch to buff their character and nerf the ones that give people trouble.

You can twist this train of thought all you want but thats what it boils down to. A player who has mastered their own will dominate anyone who simply picks the strongest character. I said it before and I will reiterate this, players win fights, not characters.

I am not denying some characters are stronger than others but this is true of every fighting game ever created. And it will always be this way, the notion you can have 40 fighters who can stand eye to eye with each other is stupid.

upball on hit should be safe

-make st. short 1 hit cancelable again (same as in vanilla)
-reduce 10 damage on all Knees and give them less recovery on block.
(basically give him back his safeTK strings from vanilla)

  • less recovery on High TS
  • fix his U1 when in the corner he shouldnt connect all the hits but do a bit more damage

Cammy
-give her back TKCS
-spiral arrow = armor break

People need to quit whining about Cammy’s TKCS. She’s a frame trap character now. ACCEPT IT AND MAKE IT YOURS, IT IS YOUR DESTINY.

Spiral arrow as an armor break would be stupidly hilariously powerful. So no.

Lol, you don’t see why? Being on the other side of the fence might do Yun some good. Make the majority of Yun players actually have to think in match, and we’ll see less and less Yuns.
