I admit I haven’t had Chun in the lab very much. IIRC my time with her has been little more than figuring out max damage combos and testing her AA options briefly. Your play in that video does change my mind a bit about her. Her fireball is stuuuupid good. The LP version looks like you can still walk behind it offensively and the recovery on all three is quite good in comparison to other projectiles in the game. It’s like a QCF Sonic Boom. In theory I don’t see what Ryu can really do against her 1 on 1. She out zones and out footsies him free. Do you happen to know off the top of your head how large the hitboxes on her fireballs are? Can, for example, Ibuki slide under them? I haven’t played any decent Chuns.
raven actually has the best fireball in the game
I think theo nly time Chun Li wins the fireball war vs. Ryu is when she has Super -_- that Super is retarded!!
Uhm I just posted a video that clearly shows chun beating ryu in a standard fireball war, easily. But yes, her super is another factor
Looks like Ryu wins that FB war if you ask me…
Uh. I started throwing fireballs when they were in Chuns face, and I threw them as fast as possible and she pushed them out to half screen. Are you fucking blind?
I’ve played vs him and this matchup a million times. She flat out wins the fb game.
Dang. I’m gonna be honest i didn’t believe you at first, but then i watched the video and that was ridiculous! it wasn’t even close to being an even fireball war
Believe me, I’m not gonna spout some random shit.
We play a lot. And we can be at opposite ends of the screen. Start throwing fireballs at the same time, and after about 5 fireballs, I have to ex, block, or jump
Well I am tired of the Ryu is durrr best bandwagon so at least there’s something worth reading now.
People just hate ryu cuz of the rh joudan kick, which is +1 on block, making for s good frame trap. But completely ignoring that you can always interrupt and beat the kick, or just cross cancel. Or they bitch about his fb cancel pressure, which is funny, cuz at best, ryu is -2 off a fb dash cancel. Granted, its safe, except against a couple supers(gief 0 frame, and Julia 2 frame for example). But there’s a big hole. And of you don’t cancel off a fierce or c.rh, the hole is even bigger.
He’s just a solid character
I agree. I don’t think he’s anything terribly special. He doesn’t have any tool that isn’t available to other characters. Similar to other games, he is more or less average on all bases. His frame traps are good, his zoning is good, his pressure is good, but not great. He is generally not better at any particular facet of gameplay than another character who specializes in that area. Guile’s zoning is better, Ibuki’s pressure is better, Steve’s frame traps are better, etc. He is, as he always has been, a jack of all trades master of none character. I do feel though that he fares at least decently in most matchups, and doesn’t really have any glaring weaknesses making him my choice to come first on my team as my “feel things out” character.
I treat donkey kick like patriot circle
alpha counter on sight
I really question whether alpha counters are worth the meter or not, especially if you have an alternative method of escape. Opinions?
Alpha counters are great. I use them all the time. Gets them off you. Even if I’m on the offensive for most of the time, and the second my opponent tries to attack, I will alpha counter the second he throws his first attack so he does not get a single opportunity to mount any type of offensive. This frustrates the opponent since they were denied any opportunity to regain control of the match.
meter is pretty damm free in this game , and the counter is a big fat NO! to pretty much everything
Alpha counters are awesome.
Too strong IMHO. If you have two bars your going to get around 350-400 damage.
If you have 3 bars, its even better.
I have a 3 bar Alpha Counter set-up with Hwoarang and Kazuya that does 590 damage. I have won several matches with this. Its A+ (or total bullshit, depending on how you look at it) when you can kill a character with just about 60% of their life bar while stuck in block stun. (Not to mention building about 75% of a bar for the next round.)
how come a ninja star and a piece of rock can nullify a fireball yet a knife loses against it?
For my team, they aren’t set up to do big damage off a counter unless I have the opponent cornered, and even then its tough. But both my characters toss the opponent to the other side of the screen, and allow for safe tags, so its a benefit.
Either way, I will gladly use a stock to deny my opponent any opportunity to land damage on me
