Because the recent batches of these pads use cheaper/lower quality materials to meet demands. The dpad feels really crappy and I had trouble with moves, while on my genuine Saturn and PS2 Saturn pads they come out every time.
If you have a genuine Saturn controller around just swap in a dpad from that and it will be 100% better.
i’m thinking of trying this. i know i still have at least one saturn pad in a box, and i bid on another on ebay (just in case), and also one of the usb ones (litianedup_wifi), so we’ll see. i really don’t see why it shouldn’t work. original saturn pads are pretty damn sturdy, and from what i’ve read, the pcb on the ebay usb ones are good even if there are varying reports on the buttons.
The real thing has a Sega logo as well as a sticker on the back. I think you guys would also do well in creating a list of bad sellers.
The Sega PCB looks very similar to what a real Saturn PCB looks like. If I ended up with one of these bootlegs it looks like everything but the PCB could be swapped from an original Saturn controller.
Assuming the PCB doesn’t suck I’m almost happy that the bootlegs exist. It should ensure that Saturn pads will be around in some fashion for a while.
i’m hoping so. that is who i bought a black one from. litianedup is who most people have purchased from successfully it seems, and deadfrog thinks litianedup and litianedup_wifi are the same people:
I just wanted to add I have a original purple darkstalkers ps2 saturn pad, controller only. I dont use it much anymore and am looking to trade it towards a xbox 360 arcade stick if interested.
If it helps, I had to break mine in. At first I couldn’t do a freakin’ thing, but I stuck with it and just kept using it, and now anyone can do the moves as soon as they pick it up. The d-pad is just stiff at first, sort of like the dualshocks.
I’ve searched a little, but I’ll just go ahead and ask… I’ve always wished I could use a Saturn pad on the Dreamcast… you’d need a connector that reads VMU’s… but anyway… if anyone’s got any latent info that’d be cool.
^ The Innovation converter takes Saturn pads and sports a VMU slot. The only problem is they’re rare and usually run in the $40 range. Go post a WTB in the Trading Outlet section of the boards.
