Official SEGA Saturn PC & PS2 Control Pad Thread

Because the recent batches of these pads use cheaper/lower quality materials to meet demands. The dpad feels really crappy and I had trouble with moves, while on my genuine Saturn and PS2 Saturn pads they come out every time.

If you have a genuine Saturn controller around just swap in a dpad from that and it will be 100% better.

i’m thinking of trying this. i know i still have at least one saturn pad in a box, and i bid on another on ebay (just in case), and also one of the usb ones (litianedup_wifi), so we’ll see. i really don’t see why it shouldn’t work. original saturn pads are pretty damn sturdy, and from what i’ve read, the pcb on the ebay usb ones are good even if there are varying reports on the buttons.

I saw this elsewhere on the internets and didn’t know if it had been posted here. Here’s the difference in a legit and bootleg controller:

The real thing has a Sega logo as well as a sticker on the back. I think you guys would also do well in creating a list of bad sellers.

The Sega PCB looks very similar to what a real Saturn PCB looks like. If I ended up with one of these bootlegs it looks like everything but the PCB could be swapped from an original Saturn controller.

Assuming the PCB doesn’t suck I’m almost happy that the bootlegs exist. It should ensure that Saturn pads will be around in some fashion for a while.

a list of bootleggers is a good idea. it would help separate the bad bootlegs from the er… “good” bootlegs

has anybody bought from this seller…http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Genuine-SEGA-Saturn-SS-USB-Game-Control-Pad-PS3-Video_W0QQitemZ320361502929QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Joysticks_Game_Controllers?hash=item320361502929&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A570%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1307%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 it looks legit but u never know.

^ That’s about the most legit auction I’ve seen for these short of them being sold in the US. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from them.

i’m hoping so. that is who i bought a black one from. litianedup is who most people have purchased from successfully it seems, and deadfrog thinks litianedup and litianedup_wifi are the same people:

thnx guys i was really hesitant but im gonna give this a shot…and i’ll give some feedback on the pad when i get it.

At this point, they are probably all made of poorer quality so it doesn’t matter who you buy from.

Hello,

I just wanted to add I have a original purple darkstalkers ps2 saturn pad, controller only. I dont use it much anymore and am looking to trade it towards a xbox 360 arcade stick if interested.

do these pads work on the ps3 with the 2.7 firmware?

Yes, they do…

sweet takes out credit card

If it helps anyone looking to buy these from a legit source, I just bought from the same seller as MarkMan did. He’s still around.

The Saturn USB pad has become my favorite pad. I keep my Mad Catz Fightpad only for company to use at this point :stuck_out_tongue:

I have a “legit” version from the pic above and the d-pad still sucks lol.

IO have 2 USB ones…the white & the black one

If it helps, I had to break mine in. At first I couldn’t do a freakin’ thing, but I stuck with it and just kept using it, and now anyone can do the moves as soon as they pick it up. The d-pad is just stiff at first, sort of like the dualshocks.

Thanks, maybe I’ll try to break it in some more. The buttons also don’t work well for hdr Zangief’s lariat moves. I prefer to use my fightpad so far.

BTW, are your guys dpads made of a grippy material or smooth solid plastic?

I’ve searched a little, but I’ll just go ahead and ask… I’ve always wished I could use a Saturn pad on the Dreamcast… you’d need a connector that reads VMU’s… but anyway… if anyone’s got any latent info that’d be cool.

^ The Innovation converter takes Saturn pads and sports a VMU slot. The only problem is they’re rare and usually run in the $40 range. Go post a WTB in the Trading Outlet section of the boards.
