Thanks for the update, I appreciate it.
Hi everyone,
just to inform you that i ordered a pair of white controllers from the seller bestbuy-enjoy and they’re different than the one I bought 3 months ago (from the same seller though). the color of the buttons, the material of the dpad which is weird and not the same as my other pads…
so it seems they’re now trying to make money with fake merchandises… so be warned. Anyway it’s very suspicious to see they’re still selling them considering they’ve been selling those control pads since last august… I think the stocks should have extincted by now but this is not the case apparently.
Does it have a home button on the ps3??? How about a select button???
No Home or select button on these; just Start.
[modding advice]
Can anyone tell me where the VCC/+5V spot is on bootleg Saturn pads?
Or how to find out?
Cheers.
ok got the ps3 and the sat usb controller…what do I do know? Sorry to brother you peeps.
Wow. Just received my black Saturn PC Pad from bestbuy-enjoy.
Everything seemed fine till I pressed the R1 and L1 buttons. My first thought after pressing em… “BOOTLEG!!!” They make the loudest clicking noise I’ve ever heard when compared to other pads. It’s louder than the click I get from my stock PC mouse.

I’ve read some post from the GAF forums. Most people who bought Saturn Pads from the same seller haven’t had any problems with theirs, although they did buy the white one’s; so if anyone’s already ordered one, you might luck out.
Anyone who’s looking to buy a Saturn pad from the same seller, look somewhere else.
I got the white china one earlier this week. I’ve noticed it is rather hard to do simlutaneous button press like X-A, Y-B or Z-C. Might be a bit hard to do a FA ot throw. D-pad feels great though and I also have the loud clicking noice in teh shoulder buttons just like Blast.
I didn’t think you’d get the same clicking with a white pad. I think we both got scammed. Here’s the video I used for comparison:
@ 1:42-2:00

In contrast, in order to get my shoulder buttons to click, I need to apply A LOT more pressure. Thus, I can’t even tap them as rapidly as the guy in the video (again, because of the needed pressure).
I received my white one this morning (from bestbuy-enjoy) and have the same problem when comparing to my saturn model 2. It did hinder my gameplay slightly but not drastically.
Im gutted to hear that other peoples pads have shoulder buttons EXACTLY the same as the model 2 though.
i might make a video of it if im in the mood.
Yeah happened to me too. Don’t waste your time with bestbuy-enjoy. 1 white pad was DOA, shoulder button was not working. The other, the dpad died like in 4 days. i thought maybe the white pads were just not as good as others. Looks like its just this guy. I sent him an email asking for a replacement and he told me to send him photographs of the defective pads before he asks his boss for a refund/replacement. Yes, a photograph before he even thinks about replacing. Now, how am I supposed to send this fucker a picture of a shoulder button not clicking correctly? I took a video with my camera, though… clicking the button and Ryu just standing there… he hasn’t replied. Fuckin crook.
I bought my controller from digispace2008. So far the shoulder buttons are fine for me. I tested them in alpha 3 in mame and tekken 3 in epsxe. My only problem is just hitting a top and bottom button together.
I wonder why no one is making knock off PS2 Saturn pads.
For the amount they go for on ebay, I’m sure they would sell.
eh who knows. however I do want to say that I have broken in my controller by playing lots of 3s and I find it easier to parry, throw and perform combos than I could on any system that 3s was released on.
bu the clicking shoulder buttons are still annoying. =)
I got my usb pad from seller-digital
The dpad doesn’t feel as smooth as genuine Saturn pads. The shoulder buttons take more pressure to press and has a hard click. I’ve heard of the dpad breaking off from other peoples’ pads on other sites too. You can just get a Saturn model 2 pad and swap out the dpad and buttons though.
With that said here is the scenario I am in:
- I have 2 Ps2 Black Saturn pads that are broken, I have two ps3 ones from this guy coming in the mail.
The experiment I am trying with someone that knows what he’'s doing is:
- Swapping out the faceplate, motherboard, buttons, wires, dpad, etc with the Ps2 wires so I can hopefully create 2 brand new Saturn PS2 pads…
Does this sound logical?
I just bought a grey pad from bestbuy-enjoy (doh!) has anyone had trouble with this pad? Should I just buy another from digispace instead?
EDIT: I just went ahead and bought the digispace pad anyhow. Maybe there should be a notice at the beginning of the thread about the defective bestbuy pads?
I guess I lucked out when I bought my newer Saturn USB pad. It seems to be alright and functions as well as any of the other Sega pads I have lying around or in storage.
I got it right after I read the things were compatible with PS3.
I already had one from when they were originally available (could kick myself for not buying another one in another color WHEN they were originally released…!) but got lucky that the black one I got seemed to be a good one.
I haven’t heard a good thing about the other USB colors, though… Too bad the quality problem seems to be affecting the later black pads, too.
My guess is that the original batches of these used authentic parts leftover from the original production run OR the same plastic but when the bootleggers ran out of quality plastics they switched to lower grade materials. For all we know, the pads being sold online might have been rejects from the original run(s).
It’s too bad Sega wasn’t smart enough to re-release its PS2 pad retrofitted for PS3. They sure would have made a bundle selling those! Sega probably didn’t want to pay licensing fees or was just terminally stupid… I don’t think it’s a matter of the company being broke or anything like that. You think they would have at least done a run on the PS3 considering its greater popularity in Japan. I really don’t know what’s going on with that company these days. It’s been lost in the woods since the Dreamcast died almost 10 years ago.
These Saturn pad rip-offs (SF Anniversary pad, Mad Catz) just don’t compare to the real thing… For that matter, WHY didn’t Hori do its own pad run for the US, too? At least the older Hori pads seem decent compared to the other competitors.
I ordered the saturn usb pad from bestbuy-digital about a month ago and wish I saw this thread beforehand. The dpad is a pos. At first I thought it just had to be broken in, but found that it just plain sucks. My ps3 pad is 100 times better.
I’m in the same boat man. I actually did read the thread first…except for the last few pages!
I tried this pad with SF4 a few days ago, and couldn’t hadoukens and shoryukens almost at all.
It was unexpected because so many people praise this pad yet hate the PS pads, and now I really don’t understand why.
