Those are nice. I wish they had the blue one available on Ebay. I just ordered a black one for $23. Free S&H + insurance.
So hooking a dual shock 3 controller into port 2 or 3 while using the USB controller doesn’t work for PS2 games? That’s too bad. My PS2 Sega controller has taken a beating over the years. It still works really well, but I was hoping to start fresh with a new controller for those games too.
V4MPIRO, that link made me realize just how crazy I was back when I was trying to gun for a PS2 Saturn pad. The one I bid on way back then took me to 'bout $120.00 before I said “Too rich for my blood.”
Just wanted to point out that the USB Saturn pads feel really different from the American Model 2 pads. The D-pad on the USB Saturn ones seem a lot more shallow and the shoulder buttons dont’ feel as definitively “mouse-like” as the Model 2’s. Maybe it’s because of Japan VS China factory quality? Regardless, I really like the feel of the Model 2 pads a lot more. Anybody else feel the same?
picked up 2 for $50, now I don’t feel so compelled to pickup 2 madcatz fightpads for my ps3, and I can leave it at 2 fightpads for my 360 and call it a day.
only thing that sucks is no PS2 backwards compatibility, just like the madcatz fightpads.
I had one of those PS2 pads in my hands a couple of years ago, I could have bought it for about $25 but decided again it because I had gone off fighting games at the time. Dumb. I managed to buy the Mac version of Saturn pad (all white). Works great with all the emulators except MAME (more a problem with the program I think).
Yeah, it actually feels quite different. In your case, they probably feel similar since both were manufactured in Japan and based off of the Japanese Saturn pad. However, the American Model 2 pad was different in more than a few ways. The most obvious difference is the D-pad. The Model 2 had a D-pad with a longer throw and it was raised slightly higher than the Japanese counterpart. The D-pad on the Model 2 also tended to “stick” more in all the directions and especially in the 4 diagonal directions so when doing 623 (DP) motions, you actually have a much easier time getting the motion right. On the Japanese Saturn pad, I find myself doing Tiger Knee motions every time I try to do a QCF motion. This might have to do with it.
Other differences are that the Model 2 has MUCH higher tension on the buttons. Comparing the Model 2 buttons to the Japanese Saturn pad buttons is like comparing Happ and Sanwa pushbuttons. The Model 2 has the buttons also raised higher than the Japanese counterpart and also comes with a longer throw, but improved physical feedback as to whether or not you pressed it. The Start button was also slightly raised and got a tension boost as well. The only thing about the Model 2 pad that wasn’t more rugged are the shoulder buttons which feel like the buttons on a mouse compared to the Japanese pad’s feel of an actual genuine button. Best comparison I can draw to a modern day pad is that the Japanese buttons feel a bit like the Gamecube’s Z button and has a nice feedback and “click” to it. The Model 2 has the click all right, but it feels weak and wimpy.
Sorry guy, no dice on this one. Unless a PS2 game was designed to read controller inputs from the USB port, you’re not going to be able to use a USB controller for a PS2 game. Even then, the USB controller would probably have to be specialty made for the game itself.
It only works with Seaman 2 when plugged into the PS2 USB port. But it’s not like I would know, I only own the pad. A first glance it looks like a nice pad for fighters/SHMUPs with it’s Saturn style dpad but it has horrible (hard) face buttons and isn’t very comfortable.
(That phallis sticking up from the pad is a mic and can thankfully be removed).
I’m thinking about picking one up for playing old school games on my PC. I’m curious about something though, is it easy / possible to pull off Zangief’s 360 with this dpad?
So are all the eBay pads, even those from China, trustworthy? Those from bestbuy-enjoy, seller-digital, bestbuy-digital (lol…same person much?), they’re all fine?
I’m pretty sure that all those listings have always been from China, and that’s where I got my two pads, so yes, they’re trustworthy. I’ve not yet seen someone post here that they paid and never got anything.
i just got one of these delivered a few minutes ago because i wanted my friends who come to casually play sf4 to have a better option than the dualshock3 controller against my hrap3. first thing i noticed is how short the usb cord is so if your ps3 is considerably distanced from your sitting position i would take the length into note before you go ahead and buy one. other than that i have no complaints at all. the d-pad is EXCELLENT!
Can anyone recommend a reliable seller for these on ebay? I tried to buy this on ebay recently but ran into a scammer instead, guy had a good seller rating but then all the sudden just disappeared, had to dispute charges and everything. I still want the pad but I just want to buy it off someone reliable. I’d appreciate it if someone who has actually received their pad check the listings on ebay right now and let me know if any of the sellers are legit.
