Is there any difference between the Xbox and PS3 versions?

No, I’m pretty sure they’re identical in all aspects

So what’s it like?

Tri-Ace seems to change formulas from game to game. I can’t say anything about it either way until I know more about how it plays (they…really don’t have a good track record with me as far as story goes, besides VP)

I definitely get a VP2 vibe playing RoF. Some elements of the battle system are straight from VP2, like Leader assaults and enemies taking action only when you do. The first town you start in is reminiscent of the sidescrolling present in VP, although you can move in all directions in RoF.

Yeah the only thing I could sort of compare it to is VP2, but even then it’s still quite different.

sounds interesting. I would have bought it if I didn’t have way too many games already, but I’m glad to hear it is good. I’ll probably grab it after I finish up a few more games (spring break will be fun)

finally more jrpgs on the ps3

Indeed. All we need now is ToV…

I gave this a shot, and wow, talk about the lack of tutorials.

Completely different battle system, a hex system for traveling around the minimap, missions given to you by people that you can’t locate because there’s no map?

I really want to get into it, but the lack of polish makes me really take FF13 for granted. Also, the visuals are not the hottest, and the GUI looks very amateur.

There’s a tutorial for the battle system in the arena. You also have access to an in-game manual at all times if you need help with something.

well the visuals are pretty crisp on an LED TV. gameplay mechanics aren’t that bad once you understand it. i’m in chapter 4 and i’m stumped for now on where to find another shop out there to get some new guns, been itchin for dual guns already…

as for missions, they’re pretty clear on their description and location, most of the time in the beginning you’re on level 4 unless it says to go to level 3 or 5 or w/e. and the next marker on the world map tells u the story mission spot

Wow, I THOUGHT I was used to this game cause I killed the chapter 3 boss fairly easily, but then I go into chapter 4 and one of the side missions almost kills me, and I died twice on one of those red hex optional battles. Then I go to the arena to level up and I’m still getting creamed. Game is teaching me to not get overconfident lol. I’ve also realized that utilizing the Tri-attack properly and setting it up whenever reasonable is incredibly important, as is using weaker enemies to restore Hero points at the right times rather than just taking out the easy ones first.

Probably picking this us Tuesday. If not then I know I’ll be picking it up first of the month when I get paid.
I was going to get it when it first came out but I already had a small library of games to play through (and still do) but it looks interesting.

yea those 3 trolls are getting pretty annoying. i’ll come back to that with a 2MG + 1 HG setup and juggle the weak ones like crazy, not to mention on my attempts it’s been always targeting the head and never the other parts… i dunno if it’s true, once you get them airborne they can’t attack you when it’s their turn.

While gun parts are pretty common to find in the game. Guns themself rarely show up.

I don’t think you get another SMG until chapter 6 or so so do you know if those red hexes carry over between chapters?

And yeah if they’re airborne their attack has definitely been canceled.

I haven’t used a red hex yet, didn’t even kept track of how much i have, so i assume they stay with u as with all the other hexes

silly person, HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST NAMCO DO SOMETHING LOGICAL?

 I was actually counting on Namco to release the PS3 version here, but I guess it’s not happening. Is the Japanese version even out?

No I meant the red battle hexes, but yeah I found out they do carry over. And yes colored hexes stay.
