so psp slim custom firmware is out, is it as easy as downloading onto the memory stick and running the program?
Or do you have to do a bunch of shit to make sure it doesnāt get bricked? Iāve never messed with the firmware of my psp because it seems like you have to do a bunch of steps.
What does custom firmware allow you to do anyway? Just run homebrew and play emus and downloaded isos?
Bricking isnāt an issue anymore, as they can easily be fixed and restored by now. Installing the CF into a Slim isnāt that simple, as you need to go through some steps, but as I said, thereās no risk in bricking anymore, so I donāt see why anyone wouldnāt have his/her PSP without CF by now. CF allows you to, in addition to what you mentioned, to play with your own PSX games, to have a recovery menu where you can manage homebrew plugins to expand your PSP capabilities, making your PSP region free, unlock certain hidden features, change the clockspeed allowing you to save battery when listening music or improving performance in many games, such as both GTAs, and many others. Besides, homebrew goes beyond just games, thanks to it I can use my PSP as a TXT/PDF reader and as a remote control for my TV, besides the soon-to-be-released program to allow using the AdHoc feature to play PSX games with others.
Those are just some of the reasons of why you should use CF. I never understood the bricking fear that many people had, as it was exactly the same probability to get it bricked by installing a CF than the one that exists when updating to an official Sony FW.
that sounds neat, and a little overwhelming. So psx games can run perfectly like ff7 and ff8? Do you need a big memory stick like the 4gb one? or will the 1gb that came with the slim be enough?
The only PSP game that doesnāt fit in a 1GB MS is Crisis Core: FFVII. (There are others, but you can rip them to make them fit in a 1GB stick); the average PSP game is between 400 and 600 MB. PSX games go from about 150 to 700 MB (the full CD), so the usual thing is that youāll have 1-2 PSP/PSX games in your MS and the rest of space will be used for homebrew/emulators. And yes, PSX games run perfectly, as the emulator is made by Sony itself. There have been some issues with certain games, like RE2, but they have been fixed by now.
I would still encourage EVERY PSP user to have a 4GB stick. Thereās never enough space; I have only a 32MB MS, and I use a homebrew to play PSP and PSX games via USB. LMK if you have any doubts/questions!

Not at all. Games are Region Free, and CF allows your PSP to be region free for UMDs.
Itās simply red, with black buttons and UMD cover. It should be available by now, check your favorite online UK game stores.

yeah i had one with my old psp but then i didnāt really know and still donāt know how to use custom firmware and downgrading all that shit. I eventually sold it only to rebuy that psp slim bundle.
