Mort speaks the truth. Like 2 years ago they were starting to make way with saturn emulators but you had to have a freaking FASSST computer to run it and it still was a little weird. This was 2 years ago so I don’t know what progress they’ve made during that time. I’ve wanted to play Guardian Heroes and Dragon force again for the longest time =[
I actually do have Dragon force and a working Saturn but the internal memory battery died so every time I play, I can’t save. I know there’s a cheap battery for it and a real quick fix but I’ve never gotten around to it.
Yup i believe saturn actually had multiple CPUs, among other crap that made the console tough to program for. I remember that was one of the criticisms by sony back in the day, as the PSOne was the exact opposite.
They’d later prove to be hypocrites when releasing the PS2 though, which gave programmers a hard time also. I’d guess with the system’s huge popularity and $$$$ behind it(which saturn did not have), it motivated programmers to work extra hard to overcome those obstacles and crank out great titles for it.
However, even today i hear news of X-box 360 titles looking way better than their PS3 counterparts, because the PS3 is allegedly also a pain in the ass to program for too.
Saturn was a 2D machine, Sega found out PS1 was 3D so they went ‘oh shit’ and added in shelf processors at the last second so it could compete. PS2 was specifically engineered to handle multi-processing. That’s basically why you can find a PC that can run a PS2 emulator with your own game discs, and the same PC would have trouble running anything Saturn.
EDIT: And PS3 with its Cell hardware should have outperformed 360, but its low-end graphics processor causes performance bottleneck.
I didn’t even know Phantasy Star Portable 2 was there at E3 (I’ve seen NO coverage from e3 about it until just now), but here’s a clip (oh yes it definitely is on its way here to the U.S.):
ohhhhhhhh yes yes yes …so so nice.
Is there any way to make it so you could you like your PS3 controllers/arcade sticks for it? I ask because I’ve got SFA3M DSC and PSC and it’s kinda going to waste witht the current controls.
PSP Go accepts PS3 controllers via Bluetooth (I don’t know if every PS3 controller, like wireless sticks, works). There’s also RemoteJoy (play PSP on a PC monitor thru the PSP’s USB port) which lets you hook up a joystick to another USB port while you play. It’s kind of complicated (and I haven’t tried the latest release). Anyone else use RemoteJoy lately?
The Dpad fix is in the post above yours, but yes, the 2000 Dpad is way improved over the 1000 one, and no, the 1000 series never got the improvement, sadly.
Yes its quite a bit better. I still use the D-pad topper mentioned earlier though, it improves control/feel.
The problem with the 1000 D-pad is its not thick enough to register diagonals easily. If you make it a point to hold it down firmly, it’ll register, but quick movements like fireball motions? No way.
The D-pad mod is not hard at all, but can be a bit annoying to get the shape just right, to where it adds desired thickness without hampering control.
Just get a material like one of those clear plastic folders(i bought a kids organizer at a dollar store), remove faceplate, put D-pad onto folder and trace around with pencil, then cut out the shape with a scissors. Then place onto D-pad, doing a tad trimming where necessary, and once you’ve got it just right, take some plain ol’scotch tape and make it double-sided to get it to stick on. Put faceplate back on. Done.
Not quite as fancy as fighterX’s method but it gets the job done.
GTA chinatown wars is amazing. However, I feel as though the DS version is the superior one, but this just as good.
I actually really LOVE the Loco Roco games. Simple platforming fun. I never got onto them, but the Patapon games are good. GoW is good, the Megaman games are exceptional, especially the MegamanX Maverick Hunter.
