Flames fan here. They are defying expectations right now and are in the playoff hunt right now. Still have lots of holes in their game, and many of their wins have been due to luck, but the future looks very bright for this team.

It’s mostly an issue with management. The shortened season made them think the leafs had a good team, and they proceeded to lock up a bunch of bums, long term.
For about a decade they talked about rebuilding, yet have made no attempts to actually rebuild. We have needed a number one centre since Sundin left the team.
I wish the Sharks could trade Joe Thornton right now. He’s still elite and I think they should sell high.
They need better D.
They’re almost certainly not going to do anything this year because they’re so inconsistent.
Also, they can’t seem to breakout of the D zone with any consistency.

You’re right though, I’ve been saying they need to get rid of a couple of franchise players if they want a title. They’re keeping Thornton there and not really supplementing him with anyone, and not really able to for that matter.
I have wanted Barnaby Joe (Thornton) since he was a rookie. Even now, I’d love if the leafs traded some of our D for him, at the very least to help instruct our rookie centres.

The team has been beyond ass for DECADES now, they’re finding a way to get WORSE each fucking season, they fired the Stanley Cup winning coach they had, and got MUCH MUCH WORSE (as in one fucking goal in 5 games worse, and only one win the entire month), and they haven’t made a single trade.
I hate this new NHL, where teams wait until the fucking trade deadline to finally make moves, rather than get rid of bums when they know they’re bums.

They needed to sell and they couldn’t because Marleau and Thornton are on NMC.
Selling high on Thornton now would have been a 1st and a good prospect and/or a good NHL ready defender.
Instead, we have to hope that the Sharks sign a good top 3 D man this off season and that rookies step up now.
I’d take Thornton off your Sharks in a heartbeat. Be great to train our young centres.
