i don’t think smart is better than nelly… its a pretty obvious reaction, and a pretty knee jerk reaction. and i’m not a big fan of either style.
they feel no one out there is better than smart RIGHT NOW, and they’d rather make a power play next season after the ownership change goes through. nelly stepping down just means smart can get started now instead of later, and everything just seems so… clean.
whatever. the best thing gs gets out of this is stability, they are just sacrificing alot by going with smart.

Why can’t Melo just go to the Knicks and hang out with STAT?
That means he gotta wait until next year. What I believe he wants to do is get an extension now and move to another team instead of waiting for next season where he could get paid less because of the new CBA. The Knicks can’t trade for him anymore because they don’t have any 1st round picks left and their roster is shit.

Good ol’ Mavs have a lot trade pieces actually and a couple options to consider to improve the Dirksters squad. You know they will most likely ship Chandler to someplace else and can trade JT or Butler + Beaubois/future pick/money within a package. A couple weeks into the season we prolly see a move depending on some other teams, like how the Hornets do for example … At least it could be an option. I think the window is basically closed though and how the refs love to screw the Mavs up if they do not do it themselfs in tight games (coughs late Nuggets series).
Realistically, I think Melo is better off in New Jersey anyway.
In NY, he’s got a proven offensive system that does not win championships, a star with an ego that thinks he’s the best PF in the league, and a bunch of other bums that haven’t amounted to shit in recent memory.
In New Jersey, he’s got a rich owner that will spend to win, Farmar has championship experience, Lopez is going to be a top 3-4 center, Anthony Morrow is a lights out shooter, Troy Murphy is underrated, Travis Outlaw is a proven 6th man, Terrence Williams will get better… etc.
Next year once they get, say… Chris Paul… they’ll be in contention for a championship.
The only reasons I would say Melo should go to New Jersey is:
Avery Johnson is a much better coach than that overrated hack for the Bricks, to play with Devin Harris, and the promise of Lopez getting better.
The reason the Bricks are a better situation is that Amare is a top 5 PF right now, and Chris Paul has said that he would go there.
The Best winning scenario for the Bricks right now, would be to get rid of D’anphoni and try to get Byron Scott out of that Cavs contract.
With Scott in NY, Chris Paul will resume his bitching for a trade. If that fails they can always swindle the Clippers for Baron Davis or wait for Tony Parker at the end of the year.
Try to trade for Melo and they have to get other teams involved that would be willing to take some of their expiring contracts.
He won’t get to play with Harris, cause he’s part of the trade. Devin would end up in Charlotte.
But on the bright side they could potentially get D.J. Augustine, who I was high on when he was drafted and I still am.
NY is just… they’re not going to win anytime soon. Not with that system or players. Amar’e is going to make NY fans happy with his dunks, but that’s about it. NJ has so much more potential, especially when they move to Brooklyn. That venue is going to be attractive.
