Official Mad Catz FightPad Feedback Thread

I picked mine up when I picked up my 2 TE’s and it works great. The last pad I liked for a fighting game was the Genesis 6-button guy, which this reminds me a lot of. Playing HDRemix is actually enjoyable on a pad with this thing.

Please note I didn’t own any systems between Sega CD/Super Nintendo to PS3 so I missed a lot during that gap.

Exchanged it, got a new one (Chun Li, this time, bleh), same problems with diagonals, if not a little worse.

I’ll take gepeto’s advice and see if I can “break it in.” But if a couple of days isn’t enough, I’m probably just gonna get my money back.

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTPAD REVIEW!!!

dang i got neged cuz someone said they only had thumbs lmao.

Nice … I would’ve liked to see you go in depth with the diagonals, as it seems they are the only flaw on some of these controllers.

That being said, nice work, glad you are happy with yours!

Most of my friends are getting the game along with a Fightpad for the X360.
At least PS3 owners can buy a Saturn pad or they can use any PS1/PS2 pad.
How about 360 owners who are not that hardcore fans of this kind of games and won’t ever buy a stick?
If their pads aren’t working properly what the hell are they gonna do? Play with Microsoft’s pad?
Eventually they 'll give up…

You merely have to change controls in options. I don’t remember what C and Z are mapped too, but it’s easy enough. No worries.

After reading these posts I have decided to cancel my fightpad order and go for the Saturn pad from ebay. It may take a while to get to me but at least its got a properly functioning dpad and no wireless sync issues.

I also have a TE stick ordered but I may cancel that as well as I am not a pro player, I also play better with the pad (I have the very mediocre Hori FS3) and 150 (UK) is very steep for me right now.

Anyone with the Fightpad please try this out and post your results in this thread.
Load up Street Fighter Alpha 3, Choose Charlie + X-ism then try his:
Somersault Justice: db charge df,db,uf + K

See how reliably you can do it and post your results please, thanks!

Connectivit problems with PS3 Fightpad

Let me start this out by letting you guys know that my experience with the Mad Catz Fightpad for the ps3 was negative.

Friday afternoon during lunch i was excited to see that my local gamestop not only had a fightpad for the ps3 in stock, but the one i wanted: Chun Li. I took it home and excitement changed into dissapointment.

At first the gamepad seemed to work find with ssf2thdr (hd remix), but then it started to intermittently lose connection with the usb receiver. YOu can see that it loses connection not only because of the lack of control, but because the home button blinks red. So the first thing i did was change the batteries out with new ones. This seemed to fix the problem, but then within 30 minutes it started losing connectivity again right in the middle of a match of street fighter. So it couldnt of possibly been the auto sleep function that the controler has built in.

Then it hit me that this controller is 2.4ghz just like my wireless access point and x-10 video sender. So i messed around for a hour with different combinations of channels on these devices, to no avail. THe problem persisted. Eventually the controller wouldnt sync at all with the wireless receiver, it just sat there and blinked at me. Next i tried unplugging the power from both my wifi and video sender. This did not fix the problem, the controller still would not connect at all, even after power cycling both the ps3 and the controller multiple times.

Next i proceeded to take back the controller to a different gamestop. They actually had another fightpad in stock, even though it was Ryu and not Chun-li. I went ahead and exchanged them. Once i got home i was happy to see that the new controller would actually connect and sync with the usb receiver. This seemed to fix the problem, so i thought maybe i had had a defective controller the first time. Well later that night i started to have the same problem, where the controller would lose connectivity to the usb receiver and the home button would blink red. Over a course of 3 hours playing Street Fighter Saturday night this happened at least 5 more times. The following day, on sunday, i played some more. I not only had the same connectivity issues but actually had the dpad stick down once. The dpad didnt seem to be physically stuck in the down position, but my character E Honda just kep crouching…

I ended up returning the gamepad for a full refund just a few hours ago. Overall i am extremely disappointed, not only because the fightpad didnt work but because there isnt another 6 button wireless gamepad available for the ps3.

Also, i need to mention that i have a friend who purchased the fightpad at the same time as me, also for the ps3. He is not having the connectivity issues, but instead problems with the dpad sticking. He also claims that it is randomly sending commands, like a kick when he hits punch.

SUMMARY: 1st one bad, second one good.

I bought the last one in stock 2/14/09, also a ‘Chun Li’ model like the poster above. Immediately after plugging it in, i had issues, the same as above—spotty connectivity, with the red light flashing every 5 seconds or so. For half and hour, we tried the LS/DP/RS thing, different new batteries, etc. I packaged it up, returned it yesterday.

The replacement has been great so far in the 3 hours i was using it. I installed the batteries, and it synced in seconds, with NO problems. I managed to complete 70+ matches last night. I experienced on ONE round a complete failure to do specials; i use Sagat, so NO knees, fireballs, or uppercuts. For some reason, the rest of the rounds thereafter were fine.

I hope it stays like this, and doesn’t go to hell like the poster above…

ETA: Crisium, i ended up just buying one of those Ebay controllers upon your recommendation

About the: Having no select button thing. Is it possible to have another regular Ps3 controller turned on in single player mode and challenges and then use the regualar one to press select? Also, can you find any of those sega saturn pads in the UK?

Geez this sucks big time.
Seems like all 360 pad players are doomed.
It is really disappointing that there is no alternative and the only solution is Microsoft’s pad or the CRAPPY as it seems Mad Catz pad. The failure rate is ridiculously high.

Also don’t forget that many people don’t live in the US and we can’t return it to stores like Gamestop and get a replacement or a refund.
I don’t even want to think that I may have to go through all the hassle of getting a replacement.

For those losing connectivity on the PS3 fightpads, could it be that the dongle is getting hot?

I have yet to get my fightpads (Canada), but I’ve read that with the Nintendo WiFi USB connector, when it gets hot people lose connection also. Could be a similar issue.

I wonder what the people at MadCatz are thinking right now with so much fail flying about…

Probably nothing if the hardware is selling and not being returned as defective.

If my product proves to be defective where should I return it?
I live in Greece and I have ordered one pad from amazon.co.uk and one from play-asia.
Will I have to send it to Mad Catz UK/USA or something?
Will I have to pay the shipping cost?
Even thinking about it is more than tiresome.

Yes, you can have the Saturn USB and PS3 pad connected at the same time and there will be no problems. The only thing is that you can’t turn on the PS3 using the pad. You have to use the system touch button. Otherwise the Saturn pad will not register and you have to reconfigure it again.

Also, I have nothing but good things to say about the Saturn USB pad.

Quick question: doesn’t the XBOX 360 have USB ports? I thought the Saturn pad could connect to both PS3 and XBOX360.

Thanks for the answer:) Im really bummed out because that the only place they are selling them from is friom china. And i live in denmark, which means i have to pay huge delivery costs and so on… They arent sold anywere in europe unfortunatly:( It a great price on ebay! Just wished it wasnt from china:(

Considering it was advertised as a 8-way d-pad, it better fucking be one.
