Connectivit problems with PS3 Fightpad
Let me start this out by letting you guys know that my experience with the Mad Catz Fightpad for the ps3 was negative.
Friday afternoon during lunch i was excited to see that my local gamestop not only had a fightpad for the ps3 in stock, but the one i wanted: Chun Li. I took it home and excitement changed into dissapointment.
At first the gamepad seemed to work find with ssf2thdr (hd remix), but then it started to intermittently lose connection with the usb receiver. YOu can see that it loses connection not only because of the lack of control, but because the home button blinks red. So the first thing i did was change the batteries out with new ones. This seemed to fix the problem, but then within 30 minutes it started losing connectivity again right in the middle of a match of street fighter. So it couldnt of possibly been the auto sleep function that the controler has built in.
Then it hit me that this controller is 2.4ghz just like my wireless access point and x-10 video sender. So i messed around for a hour with different combinations of channels on these devices, to no avail. THe problem persisted. Eventually the controller wouldnt sync at all with the wireless receiver, it just sat there and blinked at me. Next i tried unplugging the power from both my wifi and video sender. This did not fix the problem, the controller still would not connect at all, even after power cycling both the ps3 and the controller multiple times.
Next i proceeded to take back the controller to a different gamestop. They actually had another fightpad in stock, even though it was Ryu and not Chun-li. I went ahead and exchanged them. Once i got home i was happy to see that the new controller would actually connect and sync with the usb receiver. This seemed to fix the problem, so i thought maybe i had had a defective controller the first time. Well later that night i started to have the same problem, where the controller would lose connectivity to the usb receiver and the home button would blink red. Over a course of 3 hours playing Street Fighter Saturday night this happened at least 5 more times. The following day, on sunday, i played some more. I not only had the same connectivity issues but actually had the dpad stick down once. The dpad didnt seem to be physically stuck in the down position, but my character E Honda just kep crouching…
I ended up returning the gamepad for a full refund just a few hours ago. Overall i am extremely disappointed, not only because the fightpad didnt work but because there isnt another 6 button wireless gamepad available for the ps3.
Also, i need to mention that i have a friend who purchased the fightpad at the same time as me, also for the ps3. He is not having the connectivity issues, but instead problems with the dpad sticking. He also claims that it is randomly sending commands, like a kick when he hits punch.
