Official 'Kitty' class boards thread

I would suggest tinning the wire tips if you’re having a hard time inserting them into the screw terminals. It’s easy to do, even if you don’t have any soldering experience.

twist the end of the wire so it’s not frayed when trying to shove them in the screw terminals
also use a small flathead screwdriver or a toothpick to pack it in

i had an email from paypal telling me my echeque payment was cleared on the 15th this month, how long do you think it might be before i receive the kitty? gotta get my stick modded in time for evo

thanks!

Whoa, Im very sorry about that; international echeck orders are a pain and I dropped the ball on yours. I’ve just printed out the shipping label, you should have received and email about it by the time you read this, and it’ll be out in Tuesday’s mail.

hey no worries. i was gonna mention it earlier but didnt want to come across as being impatient or anything. thanks for letting me know. i appreciate it!

I am having an interesting problem with my TE Kitty. Whenever I plug it in to an Xbox 360 the RB and Home activate at the same time, when I press the Home button it only activates the Home feature. When I hit “A” the LED lights up but the turbo feature never activates and upon the second press the LED returns to normal and stays off til I press it again. The Turbo still functions the same for all other buttons. When I plug it into a PS2 I can detect no problems. When I plug it into the ps3 the Home and Turbo buttons are completely disabled.

Any idea on how to properly troubleshoot the problems I am having?

All the cables are plugged in correctly and I am using the RJ45 jack through as the only output. Thanks for any and all responses.

WHatever the problem is, Im sure it can be sorted out, but I’m a bit fuzzy on the details so far.

  1. Which model of stick was it installed into?
  2. Did you use a special harness (V.S. harness or TE-S harness) in the install?
  3. When you plug it into a PC or PS3, do each of the eight play buttons correctly light up the matching LED in the turbo panel? If there’s any weirdness with them, please describe them.
  4. When you plug it into a PC or PS3, does the green LEDs around the Guide button light up to match the direction the stick is pointing?

Now, for the ps3 with Home and Turbo completely disable, please check the lock switch; it wont work with the switch set to ‘Locked’.

For the ‘RB and Home activate at the same time’, Im a bit confused what you mean. So hitting the RB button on the stick activates Home as well, and hitting Home by itself just activates Home only? Does that still work if the lock switch is set to Locked? Plug it into a PC and open the game controller’s applet of the control panel (Start->Run->‘control joy.cpl’), hit the properties for the stick and tell me what number buttons(s) light up when you press Home and RB. That should help narrow down the problem and the causes.

For the ‘A’ LED issue, please describe it as best you can, especially what you’re expecting to do, and how it differs from the other buttons.

  1. R2 Madcatz TE.
  2. No special harness has been used.
  3. The LED’s do not light up in the correct order. It lights up as follows:

LT/L2 activates the 1st LED and so on.

While plugged into the PC all buttons light up correctly under “control joy.cpl” However the Home and Turbo do no light up at all under “control you.cpl” whether or not the switch is in the lock or unlock postion.

4.The green LED’s do light up in correspondence to the direction I am pressing.

When plugged into the PS3 with the switch in the unlock postion Home is still disabled.

I fixed the RB/R1 and the “A” problem but now Home and Turbo don’t work at all. I had the R and H wired incorrectly to on the Kitty side of the board. I am still quite puzzled to why Home and Turbo don’t work at all.

Just installed the board today on my MVC2 TE stick. Works great! Now I’m ready for EVO. Thanks, Toodles.

Sounds like you mixed up the R and H ribbons from the Kitty to the LED daughterboard. Swap those back around and check the connections on both end and you should be golden.

Enjoy, tell your friends.

Is it normal for the VLX with kitty installed to show that I have a mic plugged in all the time when I do not?

I honestly dont recall seeing that problem. There is the known problem with the disconnect on headset plug in thats easily fixed, but I have no idea if they’re related. Link to the fix is in the FAQs at the beginning of the thread.

My problem is that the vlx keeps showing a mic plugged in and it didn’t do this before installation.

Then I’d expect the wire bridge described in the link would help. Or you can send the board back and I’d make the bridge permanent with some solder if you’d prefer.

let me see if that works and I will get back with you

okay so i tried the shoving the wire method and that stopped the reconnect of the controller but did not stop the vlx from showing that i had a mic plugged in when i did not. Honestly I think i am just going to leave it alone as the only problem this makes for me is it forces me to use my A40s over my Microsoft wireless headset. Thanks for the help though. Still love and support your products!

Do you have Kinect? Because I honestly dont see any way possible for the Kitty to affect that, especially with the power short in place. If you’re willing to find out for sure for both our sakes, it’d be easy enough to pull out the Kitty and put it back stock.

Look at the album. I have taken pics of what I am describing with and without the Kitty installed.

I do not have a Kinect.

Hey toodles,
this is not so much about the kitty but about the madcatz TE PCB is there any improvement with the design over the first generation TE PCB and the one currently used in the TE-S SCV used other than being able to disable home. I’m asking because I have new TE being shipped and I was considering just swapping the pcb for a gen 1 that already has a kitty installed so I dont have to pick up a TE-S harness to use it on the new stick. thanks

Do you have a bigger version of the last image? I can’t get it larger like I can the ‘without kitty picture’ one, and can’t see any difference between the two. It looks like they both have the speaker thingy.

You’d have to swap over the LED daughterboard and button distro boards as well. Only differences I can think of are the lock switch affecting Start and Select, and the trigger going out problem of early model 360 boards. If the trigger problem doesnt happen on your TE board, you’re cool with swapping all three boards, and dont need lock to affect start and select, then I dont see any reason you couldn’t do the swap just fine.
