oh so they did improve the pcb for the triggers then. I might to a temporary switch till I order some stuff from you. Yeah I accounted for having to swap everything which is not a big deal.
I do not have a bigger version but can take another picture later the difference in the two are the speaker on the first one is not lit up green but with the kitty the speaker is lit up green showing that the vlx is sending a signal saying it has a mic plugged in.
Ah, gotcha. Let me try to recreate the problem with mine tomorrow. I seriously cant think of anything except the diode short having any affect, but I can at least see if mine behaves the same. Let me get back to you on that one tomorrow.
its cool. Like i said it seriously is a very minor problem that I can get around but I have never had this issue with any other kitty or product so I was just wanting to see if this was something to do with the VLX Kitty and if it was a simple fix.
Just installed a kitty. Works just fine. Although I noticed one small thing. One of the lights in the turbo doesn’t come on, my RT. it still works, just no light up. Doesn’t bother me but wanted to double check and make sure this wasn’t a sign of a future problem or something.
Info:
Vs stick
Vs harness
It’s not indicative of a serious problem, no.If the RT button itself works, but doesn’t light up, you should use it in 360 mode and turn on the turbo for that button to see if it’ll light up then. If it does, then the problem stems from the diode on the bottom of the Kitty. If it doesn’t, then the problem is with the R ribbon cable between Kitty and LED daughterboard, or the LED itself has blown and only a multimeter could say which. In any situation, that doesn’t indicate any problem except the LED not working. It has no affect on how well the stick performs.
any luck?
I soldered two wires to the appropriate spots on mine, but it turns out I cant find my copy of SF4 for the 360. I have friends coming over tonight with a copy, so please bare with me for a little bit. If you can think of any better way of checking for an active headset, I’m definitely open to suggestions.
You could use any game with multiplayer that shows mic activity gears 3 KOF XIII…are a few that i know show it. Halo also shows it in multiplayer.
Okay, I was able to see the same behavior, regardless of the diode short on Bomberman. So, please consider it confirmed, and that the diode short wont fix it.
Damn, this one is going to be a pain. I dont see any way out of it except disassembling the VLX to get to the daughterboard where the headset connector is.
See, the VLX, even by itself, will report a headset connected if the four pin headset thingy isn’t plugged in. It’s like it assumes there is one, unless it’s a very specific signal or something from that daughterboard, and I dont see any way that might be. Im going to have to remove the daughterboard to look at it to see what could be involved in their headset detection.
Im sorry I dont have brilliant news for you yet, but I can’t offer any kind of workaround until I know for sure what all is happening on that daughterboard. Please give me some time to see what I can find.
Well, getting to the daughterboard wasn’t too difficult, but it’s NOTHING. Seriously, no parts, just four wires going to the four points of the headset jack.
Im sorry Trippfan, but Im at a loss. I have no idea why it is behaving that way, none at all. The headset stuff doesn’t even go through the Kitty like the daughterboard signals do. Could it be because the duaghterboard and/or button grounds are connected to the USB ground? I dont see why, or even how, but I can think of no way this should be possible.
Im sorry man, I dont have an answer for you, and at this point I dont know if I ever will. The whole thing doesn’t make sense at all.
Thanks for looking into it for me. Like i said it is a minor inconvenience that i can work around. I was just wondering if it was just my board or something. I still support your products and everything you do for the community. Thanks again for looking to find a solution!
OK. I just got an xbox360 VLX with a Kitty. I want to mod it so that I can play Dreamcast and gamecube. What RJ-45 jack do I get and who’s got gamecube and Dreamcast RJ-45 cables? Also, what cable do I need between the kitty and RJ-45 jack? Still can’t believe I’m gonna drill my VLX…
- One of the Neutrik pass through’s are recommended.
- I have GC ones, I dont have DC ones at the moment. Any of the usual modders may be able to supply both, so I’d suggest asking around.
- Any normal network patch cable, the shorter the better. Must NOT be a ‘crossover’ network cable. Either of the ethernet cables on my site will work if you want to get them from me.
Unasked: mounting the RJ45 jack in the cord compartment is recommended, so the outside will look stock and pristine, and also look slick because of the Dreamcast cord coming out all professional through the notch in the side of the cord compartment door.
Thanks Toodles! I would like to buy a Spark CE from you when they are ready. While I’m buying that, it would be convenient to get the rest of this stuff from you as well. Do you plan on getting the black Neutrik RJ-45 jack back in stock? Could you get a DC RJ-45 cable? I plan on installing the RJ-45 jack as you described. This VLX kitty is Neat-O! Thanks Toodles!

SparkCE’s have been ordered, should be arriving right around Evo, please keep your fingers crossed they arrive BEFORE Evo.
Black Neutriks were in stock, but not enabled on the site. This has been fixed. You may order when ready.
Hey Toodles, I had ordered the TE Kitty just a few days ago and just got it installed, and I’m glad to say that everything works just fine. I appreciate the work you’ve put into the project, and the guide you’ve made is particularly detailed and nice. I had thought my chances of getting a solderless dual mod for my Round 2 TE were zero when the TEasy Strike went out of stock, but thanks to your mod, I’ve got the dual mod and much much more. I’ll be sure to refer friends to your site in the future.
Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing your upcoming projects.
Glad to hear it, enjoy.
Installed mine a few months ago, and and it still works like a champ. No problems to report! thanks a bunch man!
Hey I was thinking of getting a Kitty TE, but just wondered if its worth it. I bought my round 1 TE in December 2009, and the trigger buttons have already stopped working but I hear that’s a common problem.
I was just wondering what is the life span of a TE stick, I don’t want to get the Kitty TE for my stick just to die
Thanks!
