Grab the TE Kitty zip file and extract it. Run Kitty.exe. Hit the button to open the firmware, select the .hex file that came in the zip, and the string will be in the box. Edit the string, and save the .hex file under a new name. Hit the upload firmware button, and follow the instructions, and select the .hex file of the file you just saved.
I have no idea what controls the label that screen gives the device; I suspect its based on the driver’s INI file, and the Kitty doesn’t have one because it doesn’t need drivers. I have no idea how to change what that displays.
Check the buttons out in the game controller’s applet to see which buttons may nor may not be working properly. I’d also recommend you test on the 360 as well to be sure.
Should work with anything man. Pop in the game you want to play. Or if you dont have a ps3, on the PC.
For the button, check it on an Xbox360 and turn on turbo for that button. Depending on whats happening, it may or may not blink; it would be helpful to know.
My box of Kitty V.S. harnesses keeps getting help up, first in NYC and then in Cincinnati. If they arrive Wednesday I’ll get them up on the site asap, but if this continues they may not be up until Tuesday.
Of course. I’ll be putting them up as soon as they arrive and are packaged, but I wont have the install doc done for a few days while I do the slow tedious picture taking of the install.
Cliff Notes: Dremel/whatever cut the little plastic corner so the Kitty can lay flat, install just like a TE-S but using the longer VS harness.
I know you guys had the instructions on setting up through an MvC2 TE, but I have a dumb question, the MvC2 stick has a different button configuration than a standard TE. I rewired the stick so that it has the actual configuration like a standard TE. Is there anyway to fix the LEDs on the Turbo Board so that the LEDs that light up are to the correct button? I’m just wondering because just in case I do an LED in seimitsu button mod, I don’t want to have any issues. If there’s no way to fix it, I’m cool with it. Just a bit of OCD.
The ‘which button goes to which LED on the turbo panel’ is decided by the turbo panel itself, not the Kitty. Thats why one Kitty does it correctly for every model. If you want to rearrange things so ‘LB’ lights up the third LED in the bottom row, you’d have to rearrange the wires in the ribbons going to the turbo panel.
As for making light up Seimitsu buttons with an LED controller like the FGW LED Controller, that’s no problem, that doesn’t have anything to do with the turbo panel. You can have the turbo panel LEDs all weird and still have the button LEDs working fine. Completely seperate things.
V.S. harnesses arrived and are up on the website. I apologize for the hurry, but any orders placed today (Wednesday) will go out in Thursday’s mail. Order’s on Thursday or later will be packed Monday night and go out in Tuesday’s mail.
Hey Toodles,
Just wanted to chime in and mention
a) Like Yammers post above, my LT LED is also not lighting up (the rest are). I’m installing in a SSF4 TE-S
b) Was curious where I can start trouble shooting if it doesn’t appear that the firmware flash program is working. After following the instructions, I see a command terminal pop up but it closes before I can read what is on it. I’m on windows 7.
Thanks in advance
edit : To add to my post, Win7 does not recognize the device either when plugging it in directly or when the stick is in the RS position and holding down the Turbo button (which should apparently use the original PCB). Again, the LED lights do light up when pressing buttons (aside from LT).
Having an issue with a TE Kitty I installed a few months back with an RJ45 jack for a customer.
Initially I had no problems and everything worked wonderfully including cables for PS1/PS2, 360/PS3, and GC/Wii.
The customer was in no hurry to get the stick back and planned to pick it up on site so I stuck it in a bin somewhere in my garage for at least 3 months. I finally pulled it out today to prep for a demo/test in front of him and this is what I found:
1 - The RJ45 USB cord wouldn’t recognize on my Win7 64 system or a 360. And didn’t even come up as an unrecognized USB device. Nothing showed up on the game controllers area of the control panel either.
Tested two RJ45 to USB cords with multimeter to confirm signal and double checked placement on wires to RJ45 connector correctly.
I then used a spare USB cord to connect to the outgoing screw terminals from the Kitty for testing purposes and got the same results as I did with the RJ45 USB cord before with absolutely no signal at all.
1b - Re-read Step 12 about testing on the installation guide-
Plugged the USB cable into a computer with the Guide button held down (unlocked of course) and the upper left and lower right player LEDs lit up and all 8 buttons lit up the turbo area section when pressed.
Tried unplugging and inserting back in with nothing pressed as stated and nothing showed up with no recognition at all as before. Thought I needed to potentially reinstall the firmware (although during original install I did this already) and attempted but got the immediate shut down of the command prompt via my computer (Win7 64bit) and another (WinXP SP3).
1c - Tested via my PC with stick in unlock position trying to hold down either Turbo or Guide while stick was in LS, DP and RS positions all with same result of no recognition at all from PC.
2 - Tried the RJ45 connector I made for PS1/PS2 with a PS2 to USB PC adapter and it allowed the stick to act perfectly, allowing me to test all the buttons in the control panel controller area with the PS2 to USB drivers that automatically installed.
3 - Tested the 360 PCB USB connections to the Kitty USB ingoing USB connections with multimeter and they have solid connection.
I’m stumped at this point.
I had it working on the initial install and didn’t do a thing with it while it sat in a bin for months and now it’s giving me shit.
Hey toodles, the novelty of light up turbo panel has worn off, to stop that all I need to do is remove the resistors from the bottom of the board, correct? Which resistors am I removing (iirc one controls turbo activating select, which I do use from time to time).
You also said that the ring of light as directions was disableable via firmware, correct? Is it possible for it to light up based on what controller # the ps3 detects it as?
<edit> Anything fun kitty related for the HRAP VX/SCV sticks?
Hello again Toodles, just wanted to say thank you so much for the quick turn around time on my order! Got my stuff yesterday already, got the TE Kitty installed last night, and it works like a charm! All that’s left is to install the Imp Board and the 360 contr into my PS3 TE, and I’ll finally have 2 dual modded sticks!
I’ve just finished installing a TE Kitty board into a TE Rd 2. Works great in xbox/PS3 modes. Now I would like to use a Neutrik RJ45 connector but not the passthrough model (they are super expensive here, like 30 EUR !!!). So I use the push-on-wires model pictured below…
Does anyone know what pinout I should use with this Neutrik connector ? Does the coloring matter here ? Thanks
Put your multimeter in continuity mode and figure out which pins of the receptacle match up with the pins in back. Then you know how to wire up the pins to the Kitty.
Thx for your help Robo.
I checked Rtdzign’s wonderful RJ45 Multi-console Arcade stick tutorial and found the info I was looking for:
The Kitty is now fully working (got it to work 1st time with a PS2 cable I had lying around).
I managed to get the turbo activated with the buttons (was kinda difficult to turn off though), saw the LEDs light up with the stick changing directions but I couldn’t see the 8 red LEDs light up when buttons were pressed in PS2 mode (I will check in the Kitty FAQ for this).
Much less work than with a MC Cthulhu and Imp.
Confirmed: Turbo LEDs don’t light up on button press in PS2 mode (OK this is with a PS2>PC converter)
The GUIDE LEDs do light up with stick directions in PS2 mode, only very faintly.
