Where exactly is it supposed to go? I don’t remember; it’s been a long time since I’ve been to a Japanese arcade…
I’ve never seen a Taito Vewlix cab but I guess they have the built in ash tray in between the stick/CP and monitor. I’ve seen people just place that blue Taito ash tray to the left side of the stick where it has the most empty space.
Before indoors smoking was banned, all the american cabs and Astro City cabs had cigarette burn marks over the the face of the control panels(generally placed over the start buttons).
They blue Taito ash tray would atleast match my blue ball top and buttons, it’s too bad I don’t smoke in my house at all.
In Tokyo, all Vewlix machines that I saw were the ones with red side bar and silver stick panel:

I didn’t see the typical red/white one that’s always on the Internet. For some reason, they put purple buttons in all Vewlix machines in Tokyo. They use the TAITO-ashtray in most arcades in Tokyo that I visited. They just put it on the panel. The built-in ashtray in Tokyo is always covered with the blocky cover. They prefer using the loose blue TAITO-ashtray.
Hmm, I guess Taito released the Vewlix cabs in multiple styles(White/Red and Black/Red), I’m not surprised about the buttons being different colors since they’re so easy to replace in the cabs that certain arcades want to keep a certain color theme much like how the only real arcade in Toronto really only stocks the Sega/Sanwa green and pink buttons and ball tops(got a glimpse of the owner’s office and he had arcade parts stocked up with cases of push buttons everywhere).
I really want the Taito ashtray now lol! Guess it would be easier to keep the machines cleaner seeing as they have strict smoking laws in Japan.
Are you building your Vewlix cab from scratch or did you order a kit from the guy mass producing them? They look really nice!
Meh…
In the Japanese arcades, a lot of people smoke. Certainly at the Street Fighter IV machines, it’s like EVERYONE smokes. If you are a non-smoker and don’t like to inhale smoke, it is impossible to play in the Japanese arcades, trust me.
I built the lower part this summer and I decided to build the upper part as well:

Here is my VLX with red Sanwa OBSF-30RG’s (1st 6) and twisted Sanwa OBSF’s. I also installed a 38mm pearl-red balltop from Butteroj and the white Madcatz arrowed dustwasher/shaft cover set. The balltop turned out to be an almost exact shade of Sanwa red! :woot:
There’s all kinds of different variations of the Vewlix cabinet. BlazBlue has a (appropriately) blue themed Vewlix cabinet. Tekken 6 has a dark grey and black scheme.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Hori decides to pump out different color schematas for the VLX line.
Anybody interested in buying a VLX ChImp Dual-Modded (Gummowned’s Method) Stick?
Please don’t hesitate to PM me, thanks.
BTW very cool looking sticks in here and love the custom top plates! Too bad I can’t keep this baby. Money talks so stick has to walk.
I ahven’t opened mine up yet cause I dont’ have my board, but for someone who has, on a ps3 for the select and turbo and home, can I wire directly to the button, or do I have to wire to the board first (I don’t want to sodder on the normal board if possible)
Travel Bag is in stock on the Hori site
Does anybody know why this stick feels different from HRAP2 SA?
I looked up the spec sheet for both sticks and they are suppose to be identical. However, the micro switch in the VLX feels more “clicky” than HRAP2 SA. Also, the VLX stick is a little higher than HRAP2’s (meaning the distance between the bottom of the ball top to the surface of the stick is longer)
Does anybody why this is?
Dunno the specific specs between the two but I can say it’s what you’re used to. My other stick is completely different in form factor(aside from the Vewlix button layout) and I play them on different surfaces. The VLX is pretty much exclusive played on my coffee table while my standard sized stick is played more on my lap.
The HRAP2 is pretty old as well, unless you were to swap in a new Sanwa JLF stick in it, you have to take in account that the spring might not as be as springy as it was when you first got it. “Clicky” should contribute to the micro switches as they do wear out over time and play. I’m not a stick pro but I’m only going by my experiences from past and current sticks.

Hmmm, gotta print this template out and see if it fits the VLX out of curiosity now:

Compiled from many specs from Japanese sites, it’s the closest I could get. Funny thing is (at 300DPI), it’s about 100 pixels bigger than the HRAP V series template in height, whereas the actual printed V series template placed on top of the VLX is a couple of millimeters smaller(in height).
Tried to confirm size but it didn’t really help, I used the online specs picture with my template shopped over the metal plate.
Thanks for replying.
I wonder if you know the model number of the micro switch inside the Vewlix stick.
Thanks!
Someone should buy a ton of those ashtrays and sell em on SRK
I would be very interested in that lol!
I sold my Hori V3 and picked one of these up for $230 during Black Friday and after using it, I’ve come to the conclusion that it could be in my opinion, the best stick on the market. I’ve used this stick with Tekken? 6, SSF4, Blazblue and even shumps like Raiden Project, Raystorm and puzzle games like Tetris Plus. Its top of the line quality and everything comes out quick. Its the best stick I have ever owned. Its like the gaming equivalent of owning a pimp cup with diamonds crusted all over it.
Does anyone know if the Hori USA store ships to Canada?
