Official HORI RAP Premium VLX (VEWLIX) - VX (360); V3 (PS3) - Arcade Stick Thread

Been doing some searching for a connector that will work with the JST-RA for cleanest modding. According to JST’s site, the RA series is designed to work with other brand’s same-pin connectors.

I looked over previous PCB pics and saw the 26 on the bottom of the PCB near the RA, and I counted at least 24 wires coming off the CP harness, so I’m assuming its a 26-pin JST RA connector since I don’t see a 24-pin model in production. I think I also saw 13 solder points. On the board too.

I think this connector should fit:
Connectors - IDC Sockets - IDCMHL26

If so, I think I have my solution for a PS360 Dual mod. Option #1 would be to just solder directly to the exposed pin backs then heat shrink/tape up the exposed joints, but I think a cleaner idea (Option #2) is to try and get a small PCB fabbed to solder this connector to and then just solder from the PS360 directly to this PCB. Hopefully all this can be stashed in the PCB housing as well.

Any ideas? Anyone know a cheap/easy place to make a PCB like this for me? I wonder if Toodles would be interested in a one-off project like this…

Edit:
Did some digging, found this Connector and I think it will fit spot-on with the female end coming off the CP harness. Its also IDC, so ordered a 26-wire ribbon cable to go along with it, should be a pretty clean mod once I get the USB situation sorted out and the PS360 PCB in hand.

picked up my vlx before the promo code expires.

Anyone know if Happ buttons or LL’s custom buttons will fit in the VX/V3?

when i get mine(Tues), i will let you know. i have some happ buttons laying around

Hey Guys…

Just wanted to share my Dual wireless mod 360 VLX…
Wireless for 360,PS3 & PC using the LeoV2 board…

Here are some pics…

I hated the white side panels, so instead of painting it like most stick modders on this thread I opted to use 3M carbon fiber DiNoc, for those not familiar with Carbon Fiber DiNoc it is a custom wrap used in the Auto industry, it mimics the same characteristics of real carbon fiber, reflects light in different angles and also have a slight texture… :wgrin:

As you can I see I hate clutter, I hate the sight of wires, that was the main purpose of making this wireless stick…
Can you find where I hid the 360 pcb board

Here’s the 4dpt switch… and the stock USB cable used to charge the 3.7lithium battery, stick can be used in tournaments also just plug in the usb and I’m set to go…

Since this is my stick I removed the xbox logo and used my own company logo(EliteRC - We Know RC.)
To do this just use an X-acto blade and slowly pry up the clear dome button, its stuck on with clear adhesive so not too hard to remove, you’ll then notice that the xbox logo is applied on like a sticker, remove it then print your own logo and you’ll have your own custom Guide/Home button :wgrin:

I also removed the stock green leds and soldered on some red ones to match the theme of the stick…
For now I can only connect either a sixaxis or the 360 player leds, I cannot connect both, reason is that one uses a common anode setup while the other is using common cathode…
Right now I only have the Sixaxis player leds hooked up, i would like to have both, so if anyone have the answer, please feel to PM or email me… Please help me out as I am a bit frustrated in trying to solve this problem…

I would like to thank Gummowned for helping solve some riddles, and for coming out with the Leo board… you’re the man bro :china:

Very nice job. I really need to get ahold of some of the 3m di-noc…

I’m hoping to eventually get one and mod it for dreamcast and PS3. gotta save up though. HORI should sell like some carrying case/bag for it or something LOL

EDIT: from what I saw of it at SB5…it seems the stick rests a little higher up than the TE’s stick. I didn’t have a TE to compare side by side, but can anyone confirm? is it the same stick as in the TE? I like that I don’t have to move the stick too far out on the TE (makes mvc2 fly motions quicker/easier) but that was the only thing about the VLX that I didn’t like (if my eyes were right)

very nice and clean stick sir. love the mods you did

Whoa, you got the LED lights to work!? How did you do that!

I got my stick a couple days ago, and I must say the weight and size is so nice. I had no defects or anything that was shown in the thread. Also people who somehow mash the start button are going a bit crazy in their mashing. Now to wait for my ps360 board to dual mod this beast.

i need to talk to hori support. the status of my order says shipped but it hasnt been at my door. and there is no tracking number…great…

I ordered mine on the 19, got an email from UPS with tracking info the same day with an ETA of 10/25. No tracking updates between LA and ATL, but it showed up on 10/25 just as predicted.

Hori’s site never updated anything past “shipped” for me, have you checked your spam to make sure your email didn’t filter the tracking email out?

Just a thought, hope your stick shows up soon.

I’m loving the VLX so far. I have like the smallest complaint in that I wished they would have used connectors from the daughterboard to the mainboard on both sides instead of soldering the cables to the daugtherboard, but thats the kind of thing that, if I were really bothered and ambitious, I could fix myself.

As a bit of a knife collector, for me, this is like the Sebenza of joysticks. Sebenzas are $400+ knives that, while superb in craftsmanship and materials, are still just a knife and won’t really outperform the sub-$200 quality folders out there that companies like benchmade, spyderco, and emerson offer. Its really nice to have one, but certainly not a necessity to enjoy/compete/play fighting games.

Now the quest begins to find a backpack-like transport solution for this mammoth.

Brandon, awesome VLX. the dinoc sides look great. have you considered clear coating them? heres an example clear coated:

for the ring of light, what size are the smd leds? 0603?

Does anyone know what kind of connectors hori is using for the qd’s on these? I would love a box for my customs!

Do you want the same brand?
Or will any brand Open Barrel .110" Quick Disconnect which can be bought from AkihabaraShop.jp work for you?

I want the exact ones from the vlx. I have 1000’s of regular .110 qd’s. I just really like the ease of use of the horis.

I know you want Open Barrel, not the regular ones you have.
AkihabaraShop.jp sells the Open Barrel .110" Quick Disconnect, which is from Sanwa Catalog.

I can’t wait to order mine on Friday from…Gamestop of all places.

Nope, i dont believe they are open barrel connectors. Ill grab a closeup tonight.

My VLX came today, but one of the three screws in the cable storage box was actually loose (not screwed in even a little, just loose in the box).
I assume this doesn’t mean anything, but I’m wondering if anyone received their stick with anything loose?

Edit: In a similar vein, does anyone use the option board? I’m considering attaching it, seeing as Hori started the unscrewing work for me.
