I got mine earlier this week, and the thing is a beast. I took it to casuals… never carrying it out of my home again. It’s my go-to-stick for the house now.
I was boored so I decided to buy one of these things just to see how they compare to the real Vewlix cabinet.
I’ve actually used to own a real Vewlix cabinet from japan and these thing are spot on!! They feel exactly like the cabinet counter parts. One thing that people don’t know about the Vewlix cabinet is that it also feels hallow, and all the characteristic flaws that people saying about the VLX is also present on the cabinet itself. The VLX actually feels a lil more sturdy if place it on a sturdy table. The thing the surprise me the most is how the sticks feels exactly like the Vewlix cabinet, its so dead on, same looseness of the stick compare to the Madcatz TE sticks. Madcatz TE stick to me is not like the Vewlix cabinet which is not really a bad thing. The TE stick is actually feels smoother, less loose and feels less hallow.
Overall the VLX stick is a badass stick that perfectly replicate the the Vewlix cabinet. However I don’t think I can say that its better than a TE stick from madcatz even though it doesn’t feel like the Vewlix cab, and to me it doesn’t matter cause the Vewlix cabs are like 5 years old cabs anyways…I actually know better LCD screen thats in the Vewlix cab ;)…but that a different topic…
Did anyone get the template of the cabinet that singlongkuen built? The file he linked is down now, and I’d like to look at it.

Also, how would you rate a project of this caliber? My experience with woodwork is limited pretty much to putting together IKEA particle wood furniture, lol. I can get someone to cut the right pieces for me, but I’m worried if I can put it together or not.

You need to let the wood dealer cut the main parts for you. They have gigantic wall-mounted machines to perfectly cut wood. The details such as rounded corners need to be done by you or your friend. The construction is not hard to do if you have a good drill and electric saw. A Dremel comes in handy as well. One of the most important things is that you use screws that are suitable for the type of wood that you’ll use. I used chip plate wood and chip wood screws to assemble it. The edges take quit a lot of time to flatten. Use a type of filler that is made for polishing the side of the wood. Chip plate has very rough chipped edges which are impossible to sand until it’s flat nor is it impossible to paint. You need to fill those side surfaces. You could use MDF which can be shaped more properly, but the strength really depends on the type of MDF that you use. Building this stand takes about 4 days. The finish (filling, sanding, painting) takes a great deal of time and patience. The plexi work: just scratch the line and break the piece that you need off a table or under a heavy/hard piece of wood. Good luck.
It does look beautiful, and if it was half the price, I’d buy it. But it’s not, so I’ll just stay happy with my TE and Agetec. By the way on amazon, it’s $300 with free and fast shipping.

After my Labor Day weekend with the VLX, I really can’t imagine using another stick at home again. I’m trying to sell or trade my TE-S now because I have no need for it.
I ordered mine off Amazon as well. I forgot all about the Hori Store having them…So how was it packaged from Amazon? Did they ship it within another box, or just slap a shipping label on it?
Hori’s official U.S. online store has it for $300 free shipping too (actually all the HRAP lineup on PS3/360).
It was in another box with paper packing inside to hold the box in place.

but first, i gotta sell some sticks back out. don’t really wanna sell my namco stick (imo, it overrated, but makes for a great collector item)
The VLX is definitely worth it. It’s the best stick I own, hands down. Of course, that’s all opinion.
And I’m trying to sell my TE-S so I can get a Chun Li stick too, lol.
I agree. I played on Vewlix cabinets in Japan and this HRAP.EX Premium VLX stick feels exactly the same because it’s a real TAITO-approved Vewlix stick.

I received a UPS tracking number shortly after it shipped out. It will give you an estimated delivery date. Took about a week for it to arrive.

Weird question but, which line is the select and home button on the ribbon coming out of the control panel up top? There’s a white and pink ribbon that comes out of it, and I’m not sure which line belongs to which button.
