I put in another hour on it just now, and it seems to be a lot less frequent now.
I opened it up again and moved the cables away from the JLF and I’ll try it again and hope it was the wires that were making the crunching noises (which I doubt)
It’s not the cable management, hmm.
When it “crunches” it gets a little stiff before it reaches the connector for the input.
It’s never happened to me on my HRAP EX, TE, V3 SA, weird.
I just added the coin entry. There is no coin slot. I will make an opening there and put a metal box underneath to catch the coins. It will serve as a piggy bank.
Thanks, I knew something was weird.
Also, very nice setup.
EDIT>
Just called the place that I ordered it from, and they’ll let me use the stick until they get their new shipment to send out. I can return it whenever I get my new stick. Awesome.
Great! Normally, you’re not allowed to keep using a defect product if you want to replace it under warranty. At least you don’t have to worry about it anymore.
Has ANYONE with this supposed “crunching sound” problem actually made an attempt at pinpoint where it’s coming from? I’da done it within a few minutes of it happening. It’s not like the case is hard to open.
They told me no refunds, they made it pretty clear because it says so on the website. I had to spend 20 bucks to send it back to hori, this is bs I rather have had a refund.
Apple is worse. I brought back my broken $340 iPod touch. They told me that the only option they offer is that I buy a replacement iPod touch from them for $430 (while a new one costs $340)! And if I refuse that and want to get back my broken one, I have to pay $40 to receive it (which they took hostage). I told them that I might go to the police to report this and within days, they sent me a letter that I can get my broken one without costs.
I actually did open it several times, trying to check if there were any loose wires or something between the JLF. Nothing, I had it open while playing as well… Didn’t see anything, it’s weird.
Ouch man, that sucks.
When my Samsung HDTV out of warranty (by a month or so) died recently, I googled and checked what I could do. Some people were complaining to Samsung and dogging them until they got a free capacitor fix. Some people got it, some people didn’t. I was one of the not so lucky ones. I think they wanted like 4~500 dollars to “fix” my TV with a third party repair service. I fixed my own TV with a dollar and some soldering gear. F Samgarbage.
You might try opening it up and removing the switch PCB from the stick (not hard to do, just remove the gate and the PCB should come right off) and see if there’s perhaps a loose washer or something, or perhaps the PCB switches themselves making that noise.
I’d say better not mess with the internals and use it normally. When the replacement stick arrives, send the crunching one to HORI. When they see that you’ve done stuff with the stick such as taking it apart, they’ll say it’s your own fault and send you a bill to purchase both VLX’s. -_-’
