I thought you meant playing through.
Which would mean ladder.
You have to be realistic about these things.

Are you talking about the passives? Yes, they can be changed at any time.
I plan on playing Monk and Wiz at the start. Everyone and their grandmother and their grandmother’s dog will be playing Monk, but just like maining “that popular character” in a FG, it’s the player’s job to make their favorite character stand out above the rest of the chaff. I like physical high DPS classes and the kickass Monk aesthetic/the Monk’s views on Animism and his lore, so I was thrilled to see his reveal way back. The Russian accent is pretty cool, too.
I share FluffyM’s sentiment on casters and the Wizard. I figured I’d try because some people were having fun with the Wiz and the Arcane system seemed much more enjoyable and active than traditional mana, and I was not disappointed. The later skills (Blink/teleport, twisters - which I didn’t get to before the beta closed - mirror image, Archon) look like good fun to mess around with too while being effective. Filling the screen with crap should be fun.
I didn’t get much time to spend with WD, though I found him fairly fun. I’ve never been a fan of pet/micro classes, but the WD’s not being relegated to hanging out in the back while keeping up debuffs and rather actually getting more in the fray is more to my liking. Plus, I also like hybrid classes and oddball classes, and I predict you won’t see nearly as many WD’s (“he’s weird”) as you will see Monks and DH’s (“badass”), so they’ll be in somewhat more demand.
Didn’t get to mess around with DH and Barb, though I wanted to. Especially Barb. So no comment there.
Also, what is the last rune for Energy Twister? I’m looking at the talent calculator and the tooltip’s bugged.
Using Energy Twister gives you a charge (up to 3), and then using a Signature skill releases your charges as a 100% damage tornado per charge consumed.
It’s either that or it’s the other way around (Signature skills giving charges and Twister using them, but that sounds a lot more OP), I forget exactly.
My build WD summon/thorn
[details=Spoiler]poison dart(numb)/ firebats(CoB)/ zombie dogs(leeching)/ sacrifice(for the master)/ WoZombies(deadrush)/ gargantuan(humangoid)/ jungle fortitude/fetish/fierce loyalty and build thorns on every way possible [details=Spoiler]
What are yours? Of course it might change but I wanna know what everyone is thinking right now.
This is what I’m currently planning: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#iUdYPT!VUb!caZYYc
Fetish Sycophantis also looks really interesting though, I might roll that + Firebats as a substitute for when/if Poison Immunes show up.
ok battle tag for myself:
Infernoman#1439
battletag: Supdawgs#1556
Witch Doctor here I come
Tentative Monk build:
My passives are mostly invested in Spirit management, because I feel that will become crucial later on in the hard modes/being able to support a party. Otherwise, I just picked the most functionally-sound/coolest abilities, heh. Though I’m willing to experiment.
In which case, Strong Spirit might be better for Exploding Palm. But the last rune sounds useful for crowd control, so I’ll stick with it.
Wiz:
or
High DPS + nuke crowds.
I’ve decided on WD. Gonna name him xXxkus5blaz3dyouw4nn4s33myw4gnaxXx
Damn monk might be good for pvp but i can’t see his skills dealing with various enemies
I think it’s a bit too early to decide on builds, as optimal builds will likely change per encounter, per difficulty, per playstyle, and per party needs. Even with that said, I made one up for a monk. The build focuses on spirit generation, survivability, and some support while still putting out good damage (in theory at least). I’m not sure how long it takes for Sweeping Wind to stack up, so the build is tenative at the moment.
Assuming using 2Hers with The Guardian’s Path increases passive spirit gain, this build would build up 10 spirit per second, not counting spirit generated from the primary attack. You use Breath of Heaven to keep the 15% damage buff on you at all times (45 duration, 15 second colldown) and to heal your allies on cooldown. Use Seven-Sided Strike on cooldown for your big damage dealer ability (using both abilities on CD is only about (3.33333 spirit per second). Use Tempest Rush to burn off excess Spirit and take less damage while still doing DPS. Breath of Heaven’s rune can be switched out for more flexibility depending on what you or your party may need for a certain situation.
Ok, take it easy Diablotheory 101
Yeah, it’s a bit silly to come up with definitive builds early on, or to decide on only one build. The new system’s flexibility allows you to have several on one character, anyway, so you can theorycraft a build from the start, work up to it, and then when you realize, “Oh, a point would be better spent here,” you don’t have to blow money on a respec and can tinker around with it from there. So just go with what you want Day 1.
It’s fun to theory in the pre-release stages anyway. You can look back and compare how your predictions match up with what actually came to be in the future.
Good call on the spirit gain with daibo/staves, though. Looks like my DPS-oriented build will be fists, which is kind of what I wanted in the first place.
I was just pondering this. What is the shortest CD Call of the ancients can have? So if you use the rune that increases it to 20 sec and boon of bul kathos the shortest cd is 70 seconds technically?
Was thinking this might be decent for a barb who wants to find treasure since the runes on threatening shout and hammer of ancients could increase treasure drop. Since higher difficulties, it’s good to have some survivability, so I decided to have a build that can build back life by using the shout and ignore pain, was thinking that wrath and ignore pain with runes would have nice health recovery. Leap is just fun jumping over gaps and walls that everyone else has to walk through, and its nice as a quick jump to get out of a sticky situation or chase a mob down. I have to admit, the offense of this build would have to rely on a good dps weapon, and its kind of light on aoe, even though hammer of ancients has an aoe, it wasn’t that great until you put the first rune on it.
ladder is fine too, didnt u enjoy d2?
I enjoyed the Hell out of it.
Now my body is ready for trois.
You have to be realistic about these things.
I hope after I max out my wizard there will be enemies to make it still at least somewhat challenging.
I only played D1 and 2 at my friends place (cows and bome throne ahh good times) and haven’t kept up with any D3 info till a week or so ago but I am so fuckin hype this is exactly the kind of game i’ve been waiting years to play. The skills and runes look like they’ll give everyone a chance to play equally powerful and unique builds without worrying about if they’re the optimal one or not.
Wizard looks insane I always love glass cannon characters…except Phoenix fuck her.
The first time you play through, I’ve heard from inside play testers you’ll need to be level 55 to beat Nightmare and you’ll have to level to max 60 to get anywhere in Inferno.
I think this is due to the nature of playing untwinked the first time through and due to a lack of knowledge for character builds which can be successful.
