Sirlin talks about D3’s ability system. It makes me man-moist. It makes some of you salty but others will also be man-moist.
Enough jibba-jabba!

Since we have a troll attempt going on in here, let’s go ahead and address it, as well as the facts surrounding this issue.
Neither game is out yet, however:
D3 has curb stomped TL2 already.
It is a done deal.
The only things Torchlight 2 offers that are in the least bit compelling are, firstly and primarily, off-line play, and secondly and much the lesser, modding.
Neither of these factors is even remotely considered relevant, much less desirable, to competitive players.
The former precludes an economy.
The latter utterly destroys any possibility thereof.
Irrespective of any argument that could be made about botters (which has already been thoroughly considered by Blizzard - bet your ass, considering the cash cow that is the RL AH), the actualization of a closed economy is central to a game such as D3.
The lack of a closed economy in TL2 destroys any and all value in items and their acquisition through legitimate gameplay.
This effectively destroys what is at the heart of this kind of game.
The diehard fans of ARPGs are going to all be on D3.
The casuals are a given.
D3 is where it is at, and where it shall remain, for the foreseeable future… TeeElTu wut, Brute?

There’s nothing wrong with owning BOTH games you know. I’m a little annoyed when people fire back with the common “D3 is the best game ever, my life is now complete, I will NEVER play anything else.” Seriously? You do know that the original creators of D1/D2 are making TL2??? To not give it a chance is a little weird, especially considering how CHEAP TL2 is: $20…
Jay Wilson sums up my thoughts on the whole TL2 vs D3 argument eloquently here: http://www.gamespot.com/diablo-iii/videos/perfectly-executed-diablo-iii-interview-with-jay-wilson-6374413/
Couldn’t care less.
No closed economy = no interest.
.
Save the TL2 fapping for the TL2 thread.

I’m hype for arena, rolling with my witch doctor.
also very curious about inferno. heard mobs will get new abilities (like summoning walls to trap you) and other nifty stuff. I’m unsure if gargantuan is viable in inferno (even with -20% damage passive talent). if he gets destroyed too easily I might skip summonings altogether. dogs are too whacky to ever pick up in any mode imo.
Um, yes you can. Matt Uleman DID the score for D1/D2/SC and is now doing it for TL1/TL2.
Can i be man-moist too?
The jailer modifier, which made walls to trap you, was in the beta, so I think we would see more mob modifiers in Inferno, since they just slap on like 4 of them at once. The dogs are fun to blow up though, but I wish the cd on them was less, so you can have consistent kamikaze dogs. The fetish look they were taking hits for the wd in a vid, so they might work if they get one shotted by a boss, at least you have like 5 more of them to die for you.
I might make a wd and dh after wiz. I have reservations on playing wd on inferno until I probably find some gear for him (more theorycrafting) since they have a lot of cc on the enemy, but cc was nearly nonexistent in hell mode in d2 because they broke out of it fast. So I think stuff like fear would sort of suck to take in harder difficulties. I think something like vault and teleport will definitely be lifesavers for the squishy range classes. Spirit walk for wd looks good, but usually I like something that’s a “twitch” movement skill over movespeed increases, since vault and teleport work more like flash from LoL and spirit walk is like ghost from the skill descriptions.
I also wonder if you have a constant stream of cc if it will last as long as you channel it on inferno. I’m talking about aiming a cold ray at a guy and having him slowed the whole time, unlike in d2 you hit someone with a frost arrow and he was chilled for .02 seconds and runs at you at full speed. I’m willing to bet slow time will be pretty damn good from the vids so far, even for pvp just as zone control.
So? That doesn’t automatically make it better than the D3 score. If you wanna compare credentials, the dude doing the score for D3 is Russell Brower, three-time Emmy winning sound designer. Dude worked on Batman: The Animated Series, nearly all of WoW, StarCraft II, and he was the Principal Media Designer at Disney.
Matt Uleman is to Russel Brower, as Matt Heafy is to Paul Gilbert.
Simply put, for someone to say that "You can’t compete with Blizzards score. Ever. On any game" is silly when you indeed can. To be fair, I’m hoping that later stages in D3 will have great music that you find yourself humming to while at work/class/whatever. It simply was not there during the beta.
I find myself humming to music from D1/D2 ALL the time at work, which… was done by Matt Uleman. The guy doesn’t get enough credit.
In all fairness, how many hours did you hear the music from D1/D2? If you’re anything like me, then it was potentially hundreds.
Give it time.
Fair enough. I did prefer the music from D1 to D2 though. That shit was haunting.
The opening to D3 is a little… heavy. I think its too busy and loud for just looking at a menu of my characters.
In other news, I actually bought D3 today.
11 days away.
I think horrify is bad in general for PvE as it’ll spread the mobs and if you really surrounded it doesn’t matter in which directen you pull back, you’ll always have a mob running with you. the best “crowd control” will be unbreakable grasp with a 80% aoe slow that mobs can’t reduce (since it’s applied all the time). that will be staple in any mode, pve and pvp.
the CD of dogs make it not worthwhile for me (I hate pets in general tho), and to have exploding dogs it costs you 2 slots + passive slots which all in all does not make it worthwhile to drop other skills for it.
this it what I’ll plan to use for inferno:
depending if gargantuan is good enough he gets swapped for either spirit barrage (+mana return) or big bad vodoo with +30% damage. the cooldown and the fact that the totem does not move makes it rather crappy tho. fetish army will die instantly and they don’t seem to be a huge damage increase to justify that 2 minute cool down.
firebomb as mana efficent AoE, hungry bats as solo DPS / mana user. spirit walk as defense option +30% free mana on top. unbreakable grasp as CC and for kiting and repositioning. I’m not sure about haunt, but i think it’s decent for elite mobs / bosses as extra damage. Might even get the slow rune for it if the difficulty calls for it and grasp is not enough or get numbing dart or even wall of zombies with slow. bad medicine might be a good choice as well if you go for darts.
jungle fortitude to survive if I get hit and it makes gargantuan able to tank better. if he gets squashed instantly I think I’ll drop it tho and replace it with rush of essence (+spirit barrage with mana returning it might be viable as spamable damage skill).
Pierce of Veil is mandatory for any mode imo. 20% increased damage is simply to good to skip. might have to see how much mana problems you’ll have but I guess with above mentioned passive and spiritual attunement it might be not that much of a problem. you get plenty of +mana and +manareg gear anyway. Blood Ritual could be also be considered but that depends if there will be problems to begin with.
Dogs will be too squishy for inferno by far. getting close to be able to use soul harvest will not be desirable as well.
Damn, I had a whole different vision for WD.
I’ll be a Toad Sage.
I bought D3 weeks ago, downloaded in onto my computer, then received such a nasty virus on my computer that I had to re-install everything. I also pre-ordered TL2 4 pack, because I really want this game/series to do well.
Based on what information? I don’t think Blizzard is going to take one of the WD main options completely out of the game in later difficulties.
I was thinking zombie wall would be great at cutting off enemies or buying yourself some time, especially if there are choke points the wd can abuse. I want to see zombie tower in action because that 765% damage just sounds ridiculous, though I bet that sounds hard to land and probably ruins its walling aspect. Locust swarm also looks like a good crowd killer since the dot is actually close to haunt’s dps over time except just a shorter duration but better aoe capabilities. The mana regen rune on locust might be especially useful to offset piercing veil, since there is usually a shitload of mobs to take care of in harder difficulties.
If this was directed at me, rest assured I wasn’t trying to troll. Much.
If not, disregard.
