Got the game myself and still messing around with it before I get on Wifi, they basically tone down/nerf almost everyone in some way or another so I’m still trying to get over that. Very few were spared it seems.
Hitsugaya seems to be the only one who benefit from the leap from BDS1 but it’s more of a “everyone was tone down so much besides him” kind of thing and since they improved his Super A and gave him the ability to combo it in the air he can actually do good damage output now.
Gin and Genryusai seems ok as nothing about them really changed from the first game compared to other characters and they were actually good/great characters from the first game which is weird when you see cases like Hinamori.
Hinamori was so much better in the first game. The explosion move was crap in the first game and funny thing is that they nerf a lot of her moves besides that one in this game (the ONE thing that actually needed fixing with her).
Nemu always took normal damage, the only characters who took double damage in the first BDS was Kon and Tatsuki. Enough random
General Changes
- Throws now = two buttons, can now perform air throws. Throws seem way harder to land in this game than the first.
- “Cross-up” type hitboxes are gone now, I thought this was just character specific but it seems to affect everyone. i.e. Ichigo’s j. Mid no longer has a hitbox to hit behind now. I have yet to find any character with one in this game so I’m lead to believe they’re gone for good.
- You can’t Damage Cancel at all when the opponent uses a super, so no more waiting until the screen flashes and DC’ing anymore. Even though late in BDS1’s life some players found out how to make unDCable combos from anywhere on screen heh, oh well.
Byakuya
- Light attack animation changed, unable to perform dash infinite with him.
- They added noticeable start-up time to his teleport slash now, no longer spammable. Very easy to see coming but still has it’s uses in old BDS1 combos.
- Super B (“a lot of fucking pink swords” super) acts different now, instead of randomly homing in the enemy they are triggered by the players input, i.e. if you press a button a sword attacks. Over time all of time will disappear though.
Genryusai
- Mostly the same as in BDS1 except he falls down when doing his Special D (“throwing fireballs on each side him” move) and his Super A holds the opponent in place when it strikes them even if their in the air. In BDS1 if this hit an aerial opponent it would juggle them upwards instead.
Koma
- The only character they left alone? I can’t tell any difference between him and his BDS1 version. Seems almost like a straight copy/paste compared to anyone else.
Yourichi
- Oh man, they removed her free Guard Cancel Flashstep move and replaced it a command throw which was her old throw from the first game. Her normal throw is now a generic combo into a launcher kick.
- Using knives drops her to ground when used in the air…pointless thing to do. The knives has way more lag besides the RF version.
Ganju
- Added more lag to his elbow special move so you can no longer perform infinite.
- When calling Bonnie in the air he drops to ground like Yourichi instead of floating like he used to.
Mayuri
- When doing his Bankai he doesn’t disappear offscreen so he combo with it like Nemu could in BDS1. Other than that not sure what else, didn’t care for him much in BDS1.
- Has a new super which is a command throw now. Pretty badass as he goes psycho in stomping the opponent.
Nemu
- cr.Heavy doesn’t cause arkward launch anymore, is just a normal hit now.\
- Has 2 new specials, a spinning move that goes straight up vertically and a move that makes her lay down. If you lay down long enough Mayuri comes out and stomps on her (lol) then boots her towards the opponent.
Ukitake
- Super A does waaaaay less damage than it used to. Pretty wack imo since big damage was all Ukitake really had going for him.
Uryu (Ishida)
- Can’t spam arrows 3 times anymore to combo. Can only do st.M > st. H or st.M, cr.M, st.H, cr.H (the latter which is horrible anyways).
- Super Armor move last a shorter time now and has special end pose that basically tells the opponent kick Uryu’s ass now.
Kyoraku
- One of the few safe from mass nerfing for some reason, actually seems to have been given a speed increase.
Chad
- More lag on ground smash, even if you do the aerial version when drops to the ground he’s like stuck if you use the light version or takes a noticable while to actually to smash the ground if you use the medium version.
- Doesn’t do a backflip anymore for his flashstep, just dashes straight ahead. He can now interrupt his sidedash with an attack like the other characters can with a flashstep.
Ichigo
- Super B (“pillar”) is now a huge beam that splits into two and goes seperate ways. He can do the weaker version of his original Super B as a special move now that replaces his old crappy Down, Down+Atk from the first game.
- Bankai has a much shorter time now. You can’t just mash attack to do a 3 hit combo anymore. Weak does a normal attack, Medium and Hard attack buttons fires the projectile (can use crouching version as well). To do the big black sword wave you have to input a down, forward + atk command now. To mimic his old combo now you have to do something like st.M/H, cr.M/H, qcf+atk now. Also no more unlimited flashsteps (I don’t understand why they did that, its what his Bankai is supposed to be all about…speed.) but I believe his flashstep meter recovers at a steady pace compared to normal characters.
Renji
- The RF version of his 360 whip move doesn’t juggle the opponent before wallslamming them making it weaker and lower Renji’s combo potential some compared to the first game.
- Has a new command throw, pretty badass since he headbutts the opponent repeatedly and can be mashed for more damage.
- You got more options for which way his Bankai moves now. Y button = comes from the air downward. X button = starts from bottom of screen and moves upwards. A button = same movement pattern as in BDS1.
Kenpachi
- Character sprite size is bigger so he is a bigger target now.
- A lot of attack animation changes. Seems to have better natural range because of it, almost Koma like.
- His sword stab dash now always does the uppercut part no matter if you hit the opponent or not, in BDS1 it only did the uppercut if you hit the opponent.
- Teleport has very noticeable start-up time, can’t really use it for much combo purposes either now.
- Charge Slash tone down by making all but the RF version have some kind of lag or start-up time on it.
- You can now control the animations of his “ghost” special now. You can make the “fake” Kenpachi look like he’s kneeling, standing skill or guarding now depending on the button you press.
- His sword range extend special doesn’t last as long anymore.
- Super A doesn’t last as long and doesn’t ignore damage buffering anymore plus there is a big cooldown time where Kenpachi will just pose when it wears off…it’s pretty much a sucky super now.
Yachiru
- standing kick from old game replace with slow slap. The kick can still be done with crouching attack but even still they added more frames on it.
- Has 2 new specials. One where she spins in the air kind of like May, you can control it. The other one is just a big uppercut with sword, if she connects she does a little taunt.
- Has a new super too but it’s basically a extended version of his new spinning move.
- I couldn’t combo her Super A (“big lion face”) move repeatedly into each like I could in BDS1 anymore so I guess they added some lag on the end of it.
Kon
- He’s basically been transformed into a Shoto. Along with his old “splash!” attack from BDS1 he has an hadoken, hurricane kick, and dragon punch.
- His standing Hard attack doesn’t launch, no big deal since his crouching version still does.
- His supers are Shinnku Hadoken, Super Hurricane Kick, and Shoryu Reppa instead of Attack/Defense/Speed Up now.
Rukia
- Her fireball has alot of lag on it now and when you use the Medium version instead of just shooting a single straight fireball she charges up for a long time and does a 3-way shot like her RF version. When done in the air though the fireball comes out much faster than it did in BDS1. Aerial RF fireball causes knockdown now so no more fancy combos after it anymore.
- Has a new super, she takes Kon and throws him at you.
- Haven’t tested it but maybe they fixed her Super A. In BDS1 it was the only super in the game you could Damage Cancel from. With all these other changes I would think they would target that.
- Her pillar super doesn’t make her invincible anymore, you can hit her out of it now. A BIG change from BDS1 as it was one of the best Guard Cancel moves because of that.
Hitsugaya
- Aerial ice balls recovers even faster now.
- New aerial weak attack animation, basically a copy of his aerial medium attack from the first game.
- You can perform his Super A (ice dragon) in the air and can also control it now depending on the button you press. Y = same as BDS1, in the air he fires it straight down in a zig-zagging movement pattern. X = fires straight ahead towards the opponent. A = zig-zag pattern going upwards.
Hinamori
- Flamethrower is RF version only no matter what. Flamethrower range is greatly decreased now too…even if the fire looks like it’s on the opponent it still won’t hit them at times now. And it seems to only to be capable of only hitting one opponent now instead of anyone in the flame’s path, same goes with Super version of the move.
- She has more lag on her aerial projectiles…in the first game you can dance somewhat in the air with them by firing them repeatedly. Not so much now.
- Her RF fire ball “trap” only drops one instead of 3 now. Her braindead yet damaging BnB is gone now.
- Her level3 super seems to actually have worse tracking ability than before and does less damage even if all the fire balls hits the opponent.
Orihime
- Didn’t care much about her but noticed her 360 spinning blade move causes wall slam now.
Soifon
- Same except ninjas don’t come out if you hit her which was an obvious change to make anyways but surprise nothing else was done to her unlike a majority of other characters. She’s pretty fun to play with now without seeming lame.
That’s all of the old BDS1 cast members I have unlocked so far besides Bonnie but no one really cares about her (right?).
Playing around as Nemu today, she’s not too bad as far as i can tell. Im prolly gonna use her. Does she have the same moveset from the first game? I never played her that much in the first one, but my 2 characters (Orihime and Yachiru) got toned pretty badly so im trying out new characters and Nemu has been pretty fun.
It seems like Orihime takes a crap ton of damage. Does anyone else notice when playing as/against her that her lifebar might be lower than it used to be? I unno if its just me…
Hinamori seems to suck more than i thought she did after playing around with her. Her level 3 is a joke. Even if the first part hits, 2nd doesnt. Opponent has to be stupid to get hit by both. =P Ah well.
Yachiru pretty much is a joke character thanks to the trip. If there’s nothing else the trip does aside from tripping her, then im gonna deem the character useless right now. You cant really have a useful character if theyre giving the opponent free combos at random just by walking or running. =P
Damn I wish I can rep you, well Im going to chinatown now to get it.:lovin:
Ill order it now… anywhere cheaper then play-asia?
HeartNana: Special C (vertically spin move) and Special D (lay down on the ground) for Nemu are new moves she didn’t have in BDS1.
About Orihime, seems to be true. Ichigo’s st.H does 8 points of damage on another Ichigo but does 13 on Orihime. Treasure may have actually made more diverse defense/stamina rankings now for characters (i.e. with the Ichigo st.H test, it does 13 on Orihime but 17 on Kon), I heard Hollow Ichigo takes more damage too.
About Hinamori yeah I hate how her lv.3 super works now, its because of it’s new shitty tracking ability. In BDS1 even you did it on the ground all of the fireballs would still hit, ugh it sucks because I was one of the few players who even liked playing with her in the old game.
Yachiru, yeah the random tripping seems to make her worthless now. The only way to play with her seems to be constantly in the air and only take like 2 steps on the ground at best if you don’t want to risk the tripping triggering, even if does 1 pt of damage the opponent can still mess you bad.
MiyagiShin X: I wouldn’t know, I got it for play-asia myself.
Yeah, the damage level of Orihime is a bit too much for me to want to use her. Its not like its a little bit more, but stuff does like, 1.75 times the amount it does on everyone else. The easiest way to mess a character up is to screw over their lifebar, so they pretty much did that with Orihime.
And even 2 steps on the ground with Yachiru could make her trip. Its completely random, and not being able to be on the ground at all is harder than it looks. She also trips out of her 26x moves, too. She can be in the middle of dashing at them and suddenly she falls out of it, too. I guess that’s another really good way to screw up a character. =P
One more q, have you found any purpose to the lay down move for Nemu? Or is it more of a taunt-like thing than anything else?
When you lay down with Nemu, Mayuri comes on screen, if you’re still laying down when he walks by he will stomp on you before booting you into the enemy. If you get up quickly before he gets near you he will just walk pass you and slash the opponent instead.
The move commands like so
Down, Down + Guard (starts move)
- Y = Mayuri comes from behind Nemu
- A = Mayuri comes from behind the opponent (most useful way to use it)
- X = Makes Nemu get up w/o Mayuri walking on screen, basically a way to cancel it.
Edit: Btw for easier BDS2 wifi match-ups check out the irc channel #bleach_ds on rizon.net. More info: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=934425&topic=33640012

My FC. Although I haven’t played online yet…
When is somebody getting on so we can try and get an SRK match in?
I’ve been in the #bleach_ds for almost two days now, a lot of players are there but I don’t recongize if any are from SRK besides marn.
Well, I’m banned from EFNet for running an open proxy, so I can never really be there.
So has anyone picked a character they like? Im still doing tests to see who I choose, its really hard since they nerfed a bunch of the originals.
Marn made me hate this game tonight.
But seriously, I’m really liking Kyoraku for being the pimp of the game, and Hisagi just because. >_>
Was yall playing with cards?
I haven’t decided what character(s) to use, but I’m gonna get online, soon!!! BTW, Hyperhal, I added u, since u are in the immediate area, :wgrin: !!! I hope u don’t mind!!!
