My US copy should finally be arriving Tuesday. I originally placed the order using the wrong shipping address, luckily (I guess) the vendor I ordered through decided to wait a week before shipping it out…
Damn, can’t wait to actually get a chance to play it again >.>
anything sub-70 ping seems to work pretty perfectly. its kinda weird though, because once you reach over 70 the difference is night and day. input lag becomes really prevalent
“what are matchups like?” is a really involved question. i can give you the basic gist of the better characters though:
-
cedric beats everybody at least 6-4, seems to have an even match against donvalve though. cedric can’t attack attack donvalve like he can everybody else, since donvalve has 720 for post-cedric 4B situations. cedric has to play a safe, low damaging game against donvalve which ends up as a long battle of attrition
-
ashley doesn’t seem to lose any matchups except to cedric, but has a number of even matches against heavily offense-oriented characters (coyori, face) and chars that are able to keep him out (mainly urs, marco to lesser extent). any offensive character is going to have play very different against donvalve as well
-
coyori’s matchups look mostly the same as ashley’s, as they both have similar strengths and weaknesses. she does have a more favorable matchup with donvalve (she is much harder to parry consistently and is better at punishing whiffed parries, also her okizeme game is airbased, which negates the threat of 720), but has a losing match against urs due to his zoning ability
-
urs actually has mostly favorable/even match ups as well. he only loses 4-6 to cedric due to cedric just being that good
-
donvalve is interesting in that he matches up well against the top tier, and not so well against many lower-ranked characters. a lot of the lower-ranked characters have strong defensive tools to keep donvalve at bay relatively easily
Updated Simple Vids Again
Mannnn, I was at 110-120 most games
is the Japanese PSN Demo still available? I looked around in the Japanese PSN store like 20 min but couldn’t find it.
thanks! now just to figure out how to extract stills from video.
Updated Again
just finished playing…hours of online. got pwned by Pigg, but that was to be expected.
went up against mighty012’s ashley again as deathbringer and didnt get arped as bad as the first time. its a good thing deathbringer does a lot of damage because i probably got hit 10x more than i hit. i dont know if this really works, but i had success against ashley’s “j2C lockdown” by doing jumping jab straight up or back.
anyways i got some questions
-
is it just me or are reversal DPs very hard to do in this game? i must have gotten hit 90380209384908234 times trying to DP someone jumping in on my wakeup (kept trying even after getting pwned for doing it because i thought it might be my timing). eventually i stopped trying and did better, sort of. in general it seems to be hard to do anything except for a super as a reversal.
-
how do you set the CPU to auto attack in practice mode? i see the option darkened out but i cant select it. if you cant, whats a good way to practice combos after a successful push parry? right now im doing stupid shit like push parry > standing/jump fierce > dragon punch/flame claw. lol.
-
what does deathbringer do when getting rushed down? blocking a lot leads to…more blocking since it seems like hes not fast enough to poke out of blockstrings, and more blocking leads to getting thrown…or even more blocking. do i have to parry my way out or is there something i dont know?
parry
jab
pick one
deathbringer’s dp isn’t invincible, at all
the only invincible dps in the game are marco’s, urs’ and cedric’s. everybody else’s is mainly used as a combo move (coyori, olivia, deathbringer). face’s texas knee isn’t invincible, but it’s really fast and beats a lot of stuff because of that
and yes, if you don’t have a ground-based anti-air that stops ashley j2C, you’re going to have to meet him in the air to stop him. if you can’t stop j2C, you’re not going to be able to fight ashley
to practice gachi drive combos, go to practice mode -> enemy settings -> set Auto Attack to A Attack. the cpu will jab every time you press parry
deathbringer has to zone ashley with a lot of jumping around and zoning with jD and occasionally 5C. if ashley does get in, look for opportunities to jump D your way out. if you think a grab is coming, back dash -> 2B -> 623C
heh ya gg’s domino i think i have fully ajusted to the 360 pad now maybe next week ill order a stick though
Or you could just gatchi his j.2c
doesn’t lead to anything
you’re just risking for no payoff
Well after playing the game for a while I decided on Freed, Ashley, and Face. since I don’t see alot of Freed talk goin around can I assume that he’s low tier…?
i did the push parry against j2C a few times actually. normal parry…well every time i attempted that one i fucked up. with the push parry, sometimes i got the push and wallbounce, other times the parry happened but ashley landed and blocked the blue stuff.
i will try normal parry more and see what happens
edit:
freed doesnt look like low tier from this video…

honestly i don’t think the coyori had ever played the game before
all characters can compete is what’s important
yeah I like that about this game and Guilty Gear as well. doesn’t matter what character you pick as long as you perform your stuff you’ll be ok.
@DominoLogic: sweet vid man. Freed has some good stuff in there.
holy freakin crap, BEAT DOWN!!!
I was wondering if you gachi drive do you need to be 3rd strike precise with it or is there some lenience with the input…?
