Official AXISdapter Thread: SIXAXIS/DS3 Hacking Made Easy (ONLY PACK A avail)

I have an old PS2 Namco stick but I don’t want to completely gut it for those occasions when I go to my friend’s place to play.

If I solder the connections in parallel would it be able to work with both PS2 & PS3?

Hey ShinJN, I just ordered myself a board from lizardlick (AxisAdapter) but it says it’s Toodles. Is that yours? (I also ordered a Sixaxis controller from Amazon for 33 bucks)

They look pretty good eh? I was hoping the red would be a bit more like ATI red, but it still looks good. The blue came out a bit darker than expected, but it still looks good. I’m waiting for the black screw terminals to come in. They should go well with the red boards.

lol. You have collector’s syndrome like I do.

Yup, it is updated as I get requests for boards. The wait list has been turned into the pre-order list. Did you want to get added?

The SIXAXIS PCB is not common ground. It will be impossible to run a dual system setup with it. Therefore, the AXISdapter wouldn’t be much of use for you.

That would be Toodles’ version of the adapter board. He asked if he could share the same name as my board. They both function the same. The only difference is I have all 20 connections available on my board. This technically allows you to use the AXISdapter on DS2 PCBs that have a FFC connector if you “hack” the flat flex cable.

I will start soldering boards tonight and begin taking payments this weekend. I will begin shipping on Monday and continue to do so until I run out of boards. lol.

Do we get private messages when we are supposed to transfer payments?

Yes, I will ask everyone to PM or e-mail me to confirm their packages and shipment method. So follow the instructions in the first post when I do. =D

I just got my sparkfun batteries today! Its a lot bigger than i thought it would be… They had hundreds in stock two weeks ago but last time i checked only 20 in stock…

Just so everyone knows, the ground / power leads inserted into the JST header are reverse from the sixaxis battery so they have to be switched… time to get the old soldering iron out

okay so my understanding is that toodles is just missing certain buttons?

Nope, not missing any buttons. Take a close look at ShinJNs in the middle set of posts. There’s a terminals labelled CMN © and CMN (PS). Those were originally meant to be the common points for Start, Select, and PS, but we found out that any common will work just fine. So, since they aren’t needed, take up space, and add confusion, I removed them from mine. You still wire up start, select and home, but there’s no confusion; just one common for all three.

ShinJN is saying that if you wanted to try to use an AXISdapter to try and make a solderless hack on an old corded DualShock playstation 2 controller that it would be better to use his, and I agree. But for a playstation three, either one will work just fine, no better, no worse. By removing those unneeded terminals I feel I made my a little less confusing, but his is smaller and cuter. Pick whichever one you like better, you can’t go wrong.

wow, red pcb, love it~

Hey Toodles, on the off chance that you know…did Chad sell out of your AXISdapter? I’m still waiting for a response from him via e-mail (the last time I called, his voice mail was full).

I’ve asked ShinJN for one of his boards (pre-order) and have already ordered one of yours from Lizard Lick - right now, I suppose I’m in a race to see which one I get first. I’m getting antsy too cause I’ve already got a gutted SF 15th anniversary stick waiting for either adapter.

To the best of my knowledge, no, he hasn’t. He should have a crap ton.

Ok folks. For those on the pre-order list, it’s time to get your boards. Please follow the directions in the first post and I will ship on Monday. New orders will be put on the a wait list due to the fact that my screw terminals haven’t come in yet. =(

Hey ShinJN, just sent you a PM about getting put on the pre-order list for a Package C in red. Great work!

Red is a popular color.

Thanks a ton for the updates, ShinJN. A quick question about the FFCs. Are they fairly durable - i.e. hold up to multiple connects and disconnects?

The connectors are rated for 10 uses until it starts to become loose. The cables you can use more than that.

im trying to pay but i cant PM

For sure man, definitely makes me want to make a clear bottom and a red theme for my 2nd stick lol. Thanks for all the updates, looking forward to getting it and trying it out!

Just received my AXISdapter today and it’s working great. Right now, it’s floating in my NubyTech SF Anniversary stick.

Do you have any suggestions for mounting that inside? I’ve tried my local electronics stores looking for PCB feet, but have struck out so far. My actual concern lies more in trying to find a some screw skinny, yet long enough to screw the SIXAXIS PCB to the chassis.

I may order some feet from Lizard Lick, but that won’t be until their business settles down a bit. I may also try to order from Happ since I think that it’s very unreasonable to have to wait 2 weeks for an order of a single set of PCB feet.

Glad you got it! To mount the AXISdapter, you can use any 4-40 screw/bolt. For the SIXAXIS PCB, you’re going to need a screw thinner than 4-40. I’m not exactly sure of the size, but a hobby shop or ACE hardware may have them. I don’t remember seeing anything smaller than 4-40 at Home Depot.

What I would use is this http://cableorganizer.com/adhesive-base/ and use the zip tie with the two side holes on the SIXAXIS PCB. Use some foam under the PCB so it has some cushion.
