That most likely won’t work, the way I heard it, the st.LP only hits crouchers from very close, so cr.LK,st.LP won’t hit anymore.
I’ve been thinking of trying st.LP,cr.MP/MK xx store, EX Pinwheel as a new potential combo, but the old BnB isn’t going anywhere since it starts with a low hit and can confirm into HK Pinwheel for meterless damage.
I was playing an Abel today and he tried to punish my EX pinwheel on block with reversal Ultra 1 and I managed to block it. Either they reduced the - frames on EX pinwheel and/or they increased the start up on Abel’s U1. Either way, we wont be eating a raw Ultra each time we fuck up with our Ex pinwheel. That shit was a serious bitch.
His damage output has been overall decreased (especially his ultra damage), so that match up became a bit easier to deal with.
Did you verify it was a true reversal? I’m assuming he was crouch blocking, the reversal timing is a bit odd when you crouch block it to make some of the hits whiff making it enough negative frames for Abel U1 to hit. So thinking he might’ve just mistimed the punish?
Even if Capcom made the last hits not whiff crouchers, don’t see it making a big difference though, it’d still be -13, so most characters could still raw ultra, or at least combo into raep.
Glad to hear Abel gets a bit easier, he’s one of my personal bad matchups.
Abel is weak against throws, double crossups, 3 frame normals and our cl.st.mk. Doing st.lk or mk after a blocked step kick is your best bet, Juri is hard for Abel, trust me ive been there. Lk pinwheel frame traps are mostly unpunishable for Abel. When hes got you knocked down its the same as any other member of the cast, this is like Zangiefs equivalent of being right in your face, suddenly a bad matchup becomes a good matchup for Abel if you get what i mean. The guessing game on his Oki is balls, just have to guess right and get another chance to win.
Yeah it was a reversal (the word popped up). He was crouch blocking but that doesn’t matter. The Abel I played against is someone I play against ALL the time and if he had reversal U1 me in Super, in the same position, it would have hit.
If you guys want some solid Abel match up info, I’ll look into writing a good post about it another time. I know that match up like the back of my hand… so yeah.
Thanks for confirming that. Maybe this means they changed the last hits on at least EX Pinwheel to not whiff crouchers (or otherwise modified its hitboxes).
I think there’s an Abel writeup in the matchup thread, you could see if you have something to add to that. I’d definitely appreciate tips regarding that matchup.
Expinwheel is actually relatively safe, well safer than other times, so long as all the hits are blocked, it pushs them far enough away that you might be able to block the incoming punish. Souless is like a 9 frame startup or sumin + more for any input time, i dont think anything will have changed.
Abel’s U1 [in Super] has just about enough start up frames [1+13 frames of start up; which means 13 frames as reversal] to punish a blocked EX pinwheel on reversal. So adding just one frame of start up could make it impossible for him to do so. I’m more inclined to believe that they’ve increased the start up on his Ultra rather than decreasing the recovery on EX pinwheel. Mainly because Capcom really decided to nerf all of Abel’s ultras up the ass… so the idea of Soulless being slower doesn’t surprise me tbqh.
Note that EX Pinwheel is somewhere between -20 and -30 on crouch block. So if he crouch blocked it and it was a true reversal, changes to EX Pinwheel are far more likely than changes to abel’s ultra startup.
Although, its worth confirming if EX Pinwheel actually whiffs the last hits on crouching Abel even in Super, since Abel has one of the most combo friendlist hitboxes in the game
In Super, Abel can punish EX Pinwheel with U1 whether he block standing / crouching, near or far, it seems.
The EX Pinwheel doesn’t whiff crouching Abel, except from very far. From up close, EX pinwheel seems to be -14 (since the ultra hits, and Abel’s LP rekka hits).
Ultras come out one frame faster when used as a reversal I’m pretty sure (e.g. Ibuki can U1 punish Ryu’s DP FADC forward on block; he’s left at -1 while Ibuki’s U1 comes out in 1+1 frame). I don’t understand how it works but that seems to be the case. Which means Abel’s reversal U1 comes out in 13 frames as a reversal (just enough to punish ex pinwheel) in Super.
You can jump it, close.MK works too but has to be frame perfect, reversal EX Pinwheel works too. I didn’t actually know before, its only a grab point blank, and there’s a fireball component with a longer startup that comes out if the grab whiffs.
