Official 2016 NBA Off-Season Thread: Westbrook staying in OKC for 3 more years. Confirmed MVP

I haven’t watched any Lakers games but it seems Byron is not letting his young players play.

He also benches the players as soon as they start shooting good too.

I can’t tell you how many times D’Angelo or other players shoot really well then get benched soon after for no reason at all.

At this point it looks like the team isn’t responding to McHale. We called it last season that he was going to get an extension despite the talent (mainly Harden) carrying the team last season to the second seed.

I was telling my brother at this point run the old line-up and have Lawson come off the bench, and then Bev gets hurt so we are relying on the corpse of Terry as the back up who I wasn’t a fan of bringing back. Right now I’m surprised McDaniels got sent back might as well just call him up and give him minutes. Even if D-Mo comes back I doubt the team will flow better since we have no scheme.

Edit2: As for the benching, he’s always done that to players that are hot during his entire tenure remember he used to that with Brooks when Lin was out.

I’m just counting how many games it takes for McHale to get the axe.

If he doesn’t, this team isn’t making the playoffs.

Honestly, people are just whining and if D’Angelo doesn’t play 48 minutes a game there’s going to be a complaint. Clarkson sat in the 4th quarter the other day and nobody said anything, this is a Russell issue.

Nobody on the team is playing over 30 minutes a game besides Clarkson, sure Russell could play more minutes in the fourth but people are acting like its not 73 games left in the season.

The top 6 in minutes per game on our team:
Clarkson 30.4
Bryant 29.4
Randle 28.7
Williams 27
Hibbert 26.2
Russell 24.9

If you look at the other rookies drafted in the top 10 only 2 of them are averaging over 30 minutes a game Mudiay and Okafor. Russell is tied with Kristaps for fifth in mpg in that group. If you take out Henzoja and Kaminsky who are playing less than 15 mpg. On average the top 10 is playing 26.6 MPG Russell is only playing about 2 minutes less than that.

So who do we sit? Lou Williams reigning 6MOY who was the only free agent besides Bass and Metta who took our money. What kind of message would that send to other free agents? Sit Kobe who is our only SF besides Young, since Jim and Mitch didn’t address the situation in the off season. Sit Clarkson, who needs the playing time himself?

I saw a post on the r/lakers sub and he was close to the Lakers bench and he feels that no one is giving a shit because they don’t want to play for Byron Scott.

"I was sitting behind the LA bench, not close enough to hear conversations but close enough to see body language and little things like how the guys act with each other. I’ll say this as simply as I can. Not one person on that team likes playing for Byron Scott. He offered high fives to a few players at dead balls and rarely got them. The rest of the game he sat there with his arms crossed, not giving instruction. Most of the time, Kobe and D’Lo just walked by him on their way to the bench without saying anything.

On top of that, he wasn’t even coaching for half of the game at least. He would walk out onto the court with assistant coaches and huddle up with them, meanwhile Kobe is in a players only huddle with a clipboard drawing up plays. There’s zero excuse for that. Those two things are bad enough, without even mentioning the horrendous substitution patterns. Metta was playing lockdown defense with Bass and Hibbert, so what happened?Byron benched him. Kobe got a good rhythm going, got benched. D’Lo starts getting in the flow of the game? Bench. I honestly think that ownership and management instructed Byron to tank again, because there’s no way this team should be 1-8. They’re a .500 team at least, they just need a competent coach. It’s so depressing. There’s no way Byron Scott should be an NBA head coach when Jeff Van Gundy, Mark Jackson, Avery Johnson are available. All of those coaches have their own issues but they produce wins."

Lakers are not a .500 team, that is more of the Lakers are still good nonsense that are killing them.

I disagree on the .500 team yeah, but the team is just not giving a shit at all, they could at least try. This team is probably going to win less than 20 games.

.450?

.420

Bogut looked like Bucks Bogut today, he was hustling blocking shots, grabbing boards and making passes.

iggy is a beast, i hope is ok.

iggy and green are beasts

LOPEZ COME ON NOW

I mean he wasn’t kidding either,

Kobe drawing the plays and not Byron.

Looks like the Suns are finally starting to gel on offense. Keef is the weak link right now: Leuer comes in to start for him and suddenly everyone is making plays.

I still think this team can make the playoffs since most of their lower seed rivals are struggling or getting bit with the injury bug early. As long as Bled doesn’t get hurt, I think we can go as high as 6th seed.

lol. everything about this article makes me giggle.

lakers beat detroit, and now i’m officially thinking detroit ain’t that great.

i was already leaning that way when sac beat them.

Most of the people on r/lakers are idiots. Just FYI.

That guy is right except the .500 part

I was wrong about Larry Nance though, he’s beasting.

74-8 bound

And real talk, Anthony Davis needs some fukkin help on the Pelicans because you can’t win games when he has Ish Smith and Alonzo Gee playing starter minutes.

They need Tyreke and everyone else back healthy which has plagued the Pelicans.

dat Kobe!! pose
