Official 2016 NBA Off-Season Thread: Westbrook staying in OKC for 3 more years. Confirmed MVP

D-Wade is still D-Wade. Can only imagine what score would be like if Green was available.

They had Ish Smith last year. McConnell won’t start, Marshall will. TJ is the best though because white people.

Thunder look like frauds early. They’ll get it together though.

Same shit we saw in the Brooks era-- Russ don’t wanna defer, and KD defers to Russ too much, while the other guys get ignored.

It’s still early in the season, but we can’t keep playing like this and expecting athleticism and talent to win us games.
Westbrook needs that epiphany Jordan had when he started depending on Scottie and crew more.

Really Grizz? Yall letting POR beat yall big on National TV?

Yeah, we need shooting, but i know how cheap our front office is. …it’ll surprise the shit outta me if they shake things up by trade deadline or the offseason next yr. We need a good showing against LAC this weekend and they get to (try to) redeem themselves at home w GSW on Wed…hoping this aint the start of a long season le sigh

Hoping for a good showing against LAC is like hoping candy started falling out of the sky. Memphis doesn’t have it anymore. Gasol about to be 31, Z-Bo turns 35 next year. Time for them to start planning ahead.

i think grizz are done, and it saddens me.

i think making tony a liability on offense and then killing their perimeter d when he’s out is going to be everything. marc’s offense is almost all jumpers this year, which defeats the need to combat big vs big. because d is collapsed due to poor floor spacing, those offensive rebounds, that having 2 bigs should capitalize on, are much harder to come by. conley needs to be A+ every day and punish his defender all game.

i think what tnt said last night is right… the game is passing them by. it used to be you put in your best 2 bigs against their 2 and watch your bigs get toasted. now, you can put smalls on and crash on postups. or allow gasol to take 20 ft 2pters without having size hurt them. the speed and pace of the game hurts them as well: they can’t hang in fast paced games.

i hope they make a trade. gotta make a good run at it with the conley-marc-randolph core… trade off a first rounder and get a deadeye. build a bench where tony allen can lead a defense based 2nd unit. but they got exposed to the world last playoffs, and this isn’t the era to stay predictable and stagnant.

Memphis is a prime example of how much the game has changed. Every team that has beaten them has had a big that stretched the floor out to 3p range. They beat Sacramento and Brooklyn, who don’t have stretch bigs in their starting 5.

They’re going to struggle against half the teams in the league if they don’t figure this out. Randolph should start jacking threes again like his Knicks/Clippers days. That’s the only way they’ll keep up.

Who wants Michael Carter Williams? Also my team is dying and I am never going to update.

I want a trade too, but i honestly I dont see it happening. If were building around Gasol and Conley then lets shop Zbo while he still has mid tier value. But ownership is all analytics and money making, and right now asses are in the seats and im scared that might be enough for them

I saw what TNT said this morning, and I agree with Kenny. Jeff Green has been a disappointment. As far as im concerned we can shop him too. I was hype when he came over from Boston, but he hasnt shown the same aggressiveness he had in BOS and OKC…he kinda gets stagnant at times and dissappears over on the wing and his range i thought he had is non existent. Gasol has regressed back to being passive on O. I havent seen him demand the ball once this whole season so far…wtf…

Defensively theyve gotten sloppy on the perimeter. They could always hang around when stopping ppl until they eventually mustered up some kind of buckets, but not now…teams are lighting us up they arent on a string anymore they are just phoning it in and then after they get down more than 2 possessions they start gambling in the passing lanes and that just makes it worse…if we can tighten the D back up we can at least get back to forcing ppl to play our pace again

This is exactly what they need to avoid doing. As you explained, the game has passed them by. Adding a shooter isn’t going to change that. They need to start rebuilding, not trade valuable assets like a first-rounder with no hopes of legitimately contending for a title. You trade first-rounders when you need to get over the hump. The Grizzlies don’t even look like they’ll be able to climb the hill.

How do you feel about the Memphis coach?
I liked that team more when hollins was coaching them

I read that Byron gave a quiet fuck you to the Nets when they blew a 20+ Point lead against the Celtics where he called timeout and didn’t even look at this guys and just stared at the court with his arms crossed.

i still wish we had Lionel, but that aint the blame…Jorger was a Hollins assistant, and we basically are running the same sets that Hollins was…he’s ok…his personality isnt as big as Hollins’ but he’s not a bad coach…

and i dont think Memphis is out of gas quite yet…the league hasnt changed THAT much since last yr when we were the 2 seed all yr…most of the teams brought back thier same squads…Memphis’ intensity just inst the same early on this yr…and i know…plying off Allen is cute an all on defense, but that shouldnt be the reason for this early collapse…our style can win games…just need to get with the times and add some shooting so the inside game can be more potent…they need to get their shit together before it IS too late tho… maybe this national criticism/embarrassment will finally make the front office try to pick some phones up and moves some guys/bring in some guys

The league HAS changed a lot since last year, though. Teams stocked up on stretch 4s. Bad teams got way better (Timberwolves had 2nd best defense up until last night).

Memphis has the same problems they’ve always had. They still can’t shoot (3rd worst 3p% currently), and not being able to make threes is suicide in the modern NBA.

i think they just need a consistent threat from 3. they don’t need to run plays for 3 like the rest of the league. early returns on the gross number of 3’s this season are that 3pt% is down huge. I think that the grizz can still fulfill their whims of being big inside… there’s still more ppp in attempts under the basket, and the only thing close is corner 3. they just need to understand that the defensive game has changed so you can’t just force your way under the basket anymore, even against smaller opponents.

i get the feeling that the double bigs is an ego “we can still win this way” decision, and it could still work, even in the modern nba. they just need to scheme a way to make use of them.

or zach can go back to shooting 3s.

Bleacher Report just said Grizzlies coach is on hotseat and owner is impatient.

For a guy to lose his job when he doesn’t have much to work with says a lot. Grizzlies need shooters yet guys like Mike Miller and Dorrell Wright are free agents.

Then again, this is the same team that let Whiteside go, so I shouldn’t be surprised.

Damn, the Pacers’ unis are mad ugly. Also, Hill’s dye job is fading, but it’s not nearly as bad as Boozer’s spray-on special…

The jersey is dope, the shorts not so much. The Pacers store has an ill Hickory pullover hoodie.

That shit is still funny XD
