Official 2016 NBA Off-Season Thread: Westbrook staying in OKC for 3 more years. Confirmed MVP

Why would I rant? I suggested a trade a long time ago, in case people forgot. He’s not staying here.

Well, he and Bosh are the only good players the Heat has right now

Granted I haven’t seen many Heat games this season, but isn’t Wade still ballin’?

Is that dude Tyler Johnson getting a run after the Chalmers trade? Dude looked legit the few times I saw him.

There’s a guy who just got named an allstar starter, who’s second on the team in scoring, who hit game winning shots in the last two games. You might’ve heard of him.

funny that you go by that metric because you know, Kobe and Zaza are allstar starters too, just saying…
but seriously, he can’t carry the Heat anymore, like this season should be already telling you that miami is not even contender for conference finals. Take away Whiteside, who is criminally underused for whatever reasons, and you are left with the Miami Nets

Zaza Pachulia is not an allstar starter. Not sure where you got that from.

The roster isn’t built for anyone to carry it. That’s why 6 guys are averaging double figures.

There’s a lot of things totally incorrect with what you’re saying.

Not a contender for ECF - Miami is currently playing a stretch of 14 out of 16 games on the road, in addition to just recently having 7 out of 15 players injured. In fact, 2 starters are still out and Deng is essentially playing with 1 eye. So if you’re going by recent losses as an indication of their lack of ability to contend in the postseason, then you’re just being uninformed. What’s going on now has nothing to do with mid-April.

Team is nothing without Whiteside - Err… Whiteside hasn’t played in 3 games and Miami has won 2 of them. In fact, it should be a well known fact by now that Miami plays better when he’s not on the floor, having a much better defense (they just held Chicago to 39.8% shooting a couple nights ago). They’re 3-2 in games Whiteside has missed. Heat are above .500 without him… Nets are a sub .500 mess. How do you even compare them?

5 games is not a good sample size for anything

You could add every game where Heat have won while Whiteside hasn’t played in the 4th quarter.

Fact still remains, saying a team is nothing without a player when the team plays better without said player and also wins games without him is nonsense.

I blame people like Barkley for this, cause he’s been saying Whiteside is the key to Miami’s season. That seed has been plated in minds, and now we got people thinking Whiteside is carrying the team.

… yes. a very important point when arguing anything…

in the end, anyone in the east can make it to the ecf for sure. i have no doubt in my mind, as long as they can avoid the cavs.

heat might have more problems though… far better against the west than the east.

a very broad view of the issue, but the east feels wide open, and if anyone can take down the cavs early, then its really wide open.

Absolutely no top 8 East team is scared of the Cavs. No one should be scared of the 4th lowest scoring bench and a team that heavily relies on 2 guys with huge deficiencies (Kyrie known for not passing, Love not playing D).

If there’s any team that’s putting fear in people right now, it’s the Raptors. They have a better record vs the East than Cleveland. They’re beating everybody and they don’t even have Carroll.

Edit: I just checked on more stats. Cleveland is only 10-8 vs teams above .500. Raptors are 13-7. Toronto is who East teams should be worried about right now.

Lakers preparing packages for Whiteside, this should be interesting considering their limited amount of assets.

trade kobe.

Whiteside makes less than $1 mill. The only viable package(s) is guys on minimum contracts… like Tarik Black, Anthony Brown or Sacre. Basically, players that Riley wouldn’t be interested in.

I don’t even know where these Whiteside trade rumors are coming from because they don’t make sense.

We will have to see in the next few few months
I think the cavs gotta chance to get some stuff fixed

i think plenty of teams in the east can beat the cavs… but wouldn’t say NO top 8 team is looking at the cavs like they aren’t a problem. there’s no way you can’t tell me atlanta, chicago, and detroit wouldn’t be worried. but if someone can take down the cavs early, then i think all top 8 have a shot at ecf. i think toronto can beat them straight out, and boston is schemey enough to put together a great gameplan. indiana feels like they would give cavs a ton of trouble first round.

cavs are flawed, but outside of the raps, i don’t see any other team contending that has less flaws than the cavs.

I don’t care about the Heat, but the few games I’ve watched where Whiteside actually got mins and Spo didn’t go small like a tard, he killed it. If he was even #2 option, you could develop a better offense game. But what do i care. Let’s rely on Wade feeling like putting an effort every other game or two. Also I don’t see how ppl complain about his defense when he is #1 in blocks this season and average +10 boards per game, more than any other Heat player. You can’t really tell me that Miami couldn’t have beaten these teams with Whiteside on the floor gtfo.

Boston and Atlanta are the only top 8 teams that haven’t beaten the Cavs at least once. Bulls have beaten them twice.

There’s no way anybody is looking at them with fear. They see the cracks in the armor. They’re bullying sub .500 teams but the good teams are handling them.

Everybody knows I’ve been wanting Whiteside to be a featured player on offense, so there’s no argument there.

But defensively? Being #1 in blocks means nothing. If you want to talk about his impact, you should point to him being #3 in defensive rating. Even that is only a pretty number as well. His glaring weakness on d is that he’s a poor pick and roll defender. Part of why the team is better with him on the bench is because Bosh replaces him, and Bosh was the #1 pick and roll defender in the league for a couple seasons during the Big 3. Whiteside is trigger happy on blocks, to the point where he’s constantly baited by an opponent dribbling into the paint, fakes Whiteside into going up for a block, and then passes to the guy Whiteside was supposed to be defending for an easy dunk/layup. This happens probably 5-6 times per game.

But this isn’t even about Whiteside. It’s about you thinking Wade isn’t a good player this year.

Wade hasn’t played this well in 3 years. He’s single handedly won games for the Heat this year. So I don’t know what that disrespect for DW is even based on.

But the Bulls always beat them up in the regular season
Didn’t they do the same to the heat a few years back

shaq is getting a lakers statue? hmmmm…
