Official 2010 MLB season/fantasy baseball thread

Hopefully Pujols will become the Baseball Fun League’s version of Durant.

imo.

halday no hitter through 7!!!

btw carpet lint is that true i actually cried because i felt horrible or did you troll me please i need to know i dunno why i’m having these feelings but i need to make them stpo

I hope halladay has no hitter through 8.2 and Phillips does a drag bunt…and as he is going across first he gives double middle finger a la Kenny powers to the entire crowd.

Damn good games today. The walk that haladay gave up had a couple of very close pitches in it iirc.

go twinz

My man-crush (no homo, I swear, really! Ok maybe a little) on Mariano Rivera continues.

135 postseason innings, 0.74 ERA with 40 saves.

A lot of stats people claim that the closer position in today’s MLB is largely overrated. They make some damn good arguments and I tend to agree with some of the points they make. However, that being said, Mariano Rivera is an exception to the rule imo.

^_-;

And another three more broken bats - that’s just another number he keeps adding to.

I wasn’t even surprised by Halladay, that’s how stupid this whole thing is. What do you think was going to happen once you let him loose against the shitty National League after pitching against the Yankees/Sox/Rays all his career? Win 20+ games and dominate in the postseason, of fucking course. Why is everyone so surprised?

Also, yes, I had polio as a teenager, that’s why I’m in a chair all day now.

damn sorry i thought they cured that i really didn’t know

fixed it for srk

Phillies had the same thing last year, then we got 2 Cliff Lees and an improved Hamels. GG NL.

imagine if the phillies had a GM who knew what he was doing?

they could have Lee/halladay/oswalt/hamels and actually a better minor league system than they have now

instead they trade lee + some minor league guys for nobodies. then trade a bunch more minor league guys for oswalt. also they give ryan howard 25 mil a year for 5 years for some reason. their GM is worse than omar minaya

Lol Ruben Amaro Jr. and his silly long contract extensions. Gillick would never have done some of these things.

Phillies gonna be in trouble in like 2-3 years when everyone gets old and breaks down, but for now? Sure. Cliff Lee trade was lulz and made no sense because the prospects sucked, but hey, they got Halladay for three years and Cliff Lee is going to the Yankees next year.

Pat Gillick comes in, builds winners, leaves, and then his successors always fuck it all up.

Toronto, Baltimore, Seattle, and now we’re seeing it with Philly.

Maybe they should have just kept Lee instead of flipping him for medicore prospects and then trading other, better prospects for Oswalt. That was probably not a good idea. I’d rather have Werth than Howard as well, but I think they only have enough money to pay one of them.

Will the Yankees really go after Lee this offseason? Can’t imagine any other franchise being able to eat AJ Burnett’s contract like nothing, and add another $20+ million guy on top of that while they’re already paying Sabathia $23 million a year. New York’s playing a completely different game than everyone else.

Their #8 hitter is Curtis Granderson…LOL what?

It’s really not fair how they can just do that every other year.

:annoy:

Domonic Brown should be able to fill in for Werth pretty capably given his skill set. Werth is also north of 30, but so is half of the Phillies’ roster.

Lee has been coveted by the Yankees for quite some time now, but they probably didn’t want to trade Jesus Montero to the Phillies for him when they could have him next year in free agency. Quite frankly, I’m not sure how many years Lee has in him left since he’s already 32 or 33.

Lance Berkman’s contract is up this year. So are Jeter’s and Rivera’s. Pettitte is on a one year deal. Vasquez comes off the books. Kerry Wood is off the books. Nick Johnson is off. Thames, Mitre, Kearns, Gaudin, etc. etc. The short of it is that Pettitte and Vasquez coming off nets them quite a bit of cash to chase Lee.

Sabathia can opt out of his contract after next year if he wants, but probably won’t.
Yankees have to pay Jeter and Rivera also this year.

The Yankees will avoid Crawford and Werth in FA, especially since they have the fastest white guy in baseball already. Maybe Boston or LAA can afford Crawford, but the Yankees won’t bite if they’re after Lee.

Well, I should’ve known there’d be someplace that explains it all.

Oh right, here is a funny Lenny Dykstra article about his financial woes:
Lenny Dykstra: Ex-baseball star and bankrupt financial ‘guru’ Dykstra envisions a comeback - latimes.com

it’ll be interesting to see how much they give jeter. either way it’s going to be a sticky PR thing since he’s loved, was making way more than he should of, and he’s not that good

if granderson is fixed, no point in bringing in crawford

cashman should give swisher an extension though. try to lowball him with 5 years 80 million and see if he bites

also they should sign lee and carmona to recreate the 2007 indians

Probably 20 million a year even though it looks like his wrist speed is down this year since it looks like people can pitch him inside. On the other hand, Jeter’s defense is better now than it used to be. Still not worth 20 million, but heck, give it to him. Maybe Pettitte retires. If they don’t re-sign him, they won’t have to raise payroll for Lee as much, who is gonna get hurt anyway cuz that’s how he rolls.

David Ortiz hit a lot of HRs this year so I guess he was just hurt early last year, but last year they said his wrist speed was way down. They bench him against lefties now.

I think a good amount of money is riding for Jeter in this year’s playoffs. I mean, the Yankees obviously feel like they owe him, and of course all Yankee fans love him, but he did have a down year statistically, and he’s not a young guy, so he might be starting his inevitable decline. The Yankees have been known to be all about the bottom line at times, even with their stars. Look at how Bernie Williams exited. But if Jeter has a great postseason, as he has done in the past, he might force the Yankee’s hand.

Signing Rivera is a big deal as well. Pretty much the same story with Jeter, only no one really thinks Jeter is the best shortstop who ever played the game. Everyone who knows anything about baseball considers Mariano to be the best closer of all time.

Rivera is still the MVP of the Yankees Dynasty imo. When he’s gone, the Yankees lose an edge that they had over everyone else in the league. They still have the money edge of course, but they had THE CLOSER edge for the better part of 2 decades. I mean, last season 8 teams entered the playoffs, and 7 of those teams had their closer blow a postseason save. That was the difference. The question is how much longer can Mariano pitch at this level? Do the Yankees look for a 2-year deal? 1 year? Does Mo ask for more?

It’s kinda weird, if the Yankees win the world series this year, they are going to have a pretty interesting offseason. It might even be easier for them if they lost this year.

^_-;

Did the Yanks luck out by not winning the AL East?

If the Rangers beat the Rays, is it a clear path for the Yanks?

Let say Yankees win AL East then beat the Rangers, Ray beat Minny so Yanks vs Rays for ALCS, but now it looking like Ranger vs Yanks.

You know, you might be right. I don’t think the Yanks can beat the rays, but they have a pretty good shot against Texas. And I also think the Rays would destroy the Twins, but the Rangers might have their number.

Doesn’t matter, Philly will win the world series IMO. The only people who can even come close to their pitching is San Fran, and San Fran doesn’t have the bats to match up.
