Well here’s something to add, of the four regular Giant’s starters, the Giants have the worst winning percentage when games are started by Cain (.500), of the other four, the Giants are best with Sanchez, shortly followed by Lincecum (although that could have changed within the past two weeks), and then Zito. Amongst those three, the Giants are all at least .560 iirc, where as with Cain they are .500 exactly. SO WEIRD.
And yea even with quality/not-quality starts, what if one team has a really good bullpen and can hand off after 5 or 6 IPs. What if it’s a hot day and the game is like 6-6, but at the end of the game, one starting pitcher makes the big pitches when it’s needed while the other one gives up the winning run?
There can be a break down of stats, basics such as ERA, IP, W/L vs ‘quality’ teams and vs ‘not quality’ teams. That can be a simple baseline to see which ‘top pitchers’ are really beating good teams and which ones are more often feasting on lesser teams.
I wonder if there is a way to quantify ‘clutch value’ as a combination of various stats. Could make stuff about ‘getting out of jams’, ‘close games’, and other stuff vs ‘quality’ and ‘not-quality’ teams.
Ps About Lincecum and ‘has been’. He’s clearly out of shape. He has good mechanics and he’s not injured, he has admitted he’s not working out enough, and he needs to get IT back. If next year he’s still not great anymore, then he can be a has been. It was apparent in spring training he didn’t have the same velocity on all of his pitches and so we, as Giants fans, just weren’t prepared for him yet.

so they hit him earlier in the game, then he just steals second and third
so they throw at him again then he goes crazy. i love how at the end he’s celebrating. it reminds me of high school this weird kid was like yo come to the lunch line with me, then he hits some kid in the line over the head with a tray starts punching him and the kid turns around and beats the shit out of him. when he was being pulled out of the fight by the gym teacher he’s celebrating like he won with his shirt all ripped and everyone was laughing

Plus didn’t Morgan get called out on that play because he didn’t touch the base?

yea it makes no sense i was actually pissed cause i had detroit on the 5 inning line. bonderman throws at gardner for some reason to lead off the game, then instantly a two run HR. and det loses by 1. but i guess up by 10 it don’t matter
i think the marlins catcher separated his shoulder so they’re probably sticking up for their teammate even if it was his fault. i got ejected in little league baseball once for running over the first basement but the dude was like 220 in 7th grade and he was blocking the line, i had no choice. somehow at 130 lbs i just destroyed the dude - momentum i guess
next game i got hit in the head with like a 65 mph fastball and my helmet just exploded into 5 pieces but i didn’t go down
