Official 2010 MLB season/fantasy baseball thread

J.P. Arencibia with an amazing debut for the Jays, 4-5, 2 HRs, 3 RBIs… never thought I’d hear chants of “JP!” at the Skydome…

Also, the Jays are hitting Home Runs like they’re going out of style vs. the Rays.

why can’t josh johnson get a friggin win

i hate leo nunez

So Brandon Morrow is throwing a nohitter with 16Ks through 8 innings right now.
Naturally it’s against tampa bay.

Wakamatsu was fired, and replaced by the manager of the AAA team.

Which means the Ms just called up a a manager.

leads the team in RBI’s, we all know how important those stats are lol.

I’d put him ahead of everyone but Cano on that list right now though, Tex has struggled against the shift, Swisher is too random, and Gardner doesn’t have as many tools offensively. Although I do LIKE all of those players more than I like A-Rod, lol.

Hughes only gives up two runs today but still loses the game, oh noes. I guess we can just throw that game out because it shoulda been a win, oh geez what a dumb stat wins are. Q.Q

A Rod leads the teams in RBIs because he’s batting 4th in the best offensive lineup in the league. If you put Swisher there he’s got 100 homeruns.

Look at WAR

Shame on you, Braves. 10-4 loss to the Lastros?

100 homeruns? lolwut?

But yeah I’m not exactly gonna rush into an argument to defend A-Rod, he’s pretty much still a total douche.

how zambrano have 7 walks in 5 innings

i thought he was the man

also swisher has no protection from jeter, but if he was 4th teix would be protecting him and cano behind him so he’d get more opportunities and easily hit 100 hrs

strasburg back to the DL from post traumatic stress syndrome after being owned by Uggla

Most smart people don’t make a habit of bringing up their own embarassment unprovoked.

Who’s embarrased? I still stand by my stance that saying “wins are a dumb stat” is a pussy statement made by someone who’s team is probably in the tank. The goal of the game is to win. If your pitcher gives up one run and still loses, you know who won? The pitching staff that gave up zero runs. If you think the players care about his ERA after that you’re a dumbass, someone got a win and someone got a loss. It really is just that simple.

Kowtow do you think Ubaldo Jimenez is the best pitcher in the NL?

The most embarrassing part is that you’re not smart enough to realize how embarrassing it is. I especially like how you keep arguing from the perspective of some make-believe player complaining, like that has anything to do with what I said. Baseball is a team sport. The goal of teams is to win games. There are 25 players on the roster, and 9 playing at any one time. Nobody on the team is capable of “winning” a game by themselves. The only way a single pitcher has even a 50% influence over the outcome of a game is if he strikes out every batter. It takes every player’s performance to win on a consistent basis, which is why it’s fucking retarded to assign a “win” to one player, especially when the rules for wins are so arbitrary and random as to be worthless. This is not hard to understand.

By the way, you know that you can win a game without the starting pitcher getting a win, right?

No, he’s right. I fucking see the light, I get exactly what he’s saying.

Wins are a great stat. You think that if CC pitches 14 innings with 38 Ks, but gives up 1 run in a eventual 1-0 loss to the Red Sox…you think he’d give a shit about throwing the greatest game a human being has ever thrown? Fuck no, he’d be looking up at that win-loss column and wondering why he was such a useless piece of shit in giving up that one run.

That one run? Cost his team the win. Therefore, regardless of his performance he deserves the L, BECAUSE THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS IN THE END.

Even if it was an unearned run caused by an easy grounder to Jeter’s left that he bobbled that CC had zero control over…it’s still a run. Why didn’t he just strike out every single player he faced? Team lost, take your L like a fucking man, CC. Jeter wouldn’t complain about that shit.

You know what? Why bother keeping track of any stat, at all?

Home runs are useless stats - you think that if Jeter hit five home runs in a game the Yankees lost, that he’d be happy about that? Fuck no, all he’d see is that big “L” - that is the only stat he cares about, because he is a fucking winner, he wins, and never does anything else. Why bother keeping track of home runs?

Batting average!?! FUCK YOU! You think that if Cano hit .562 for a whole year in a losing season, that has anything to do with his individual ability as a player? FUCK NO. They lost that season, what value is there to be gained by looking at what this player has accomplished individually, of seeing what value he provides by himself to a team? Fuck him, none of his stats mean shit if he did not collectively succeed over the course of 162 games with 24 other players he has no control over.

Actually, why even bother keeping track of wins and losses? The only win that truly matters is the World Series, Game 7. Who the fuck cares about your 120 win season if you can’t win a World Series?

Baseball should just be one single game, the World Series Game 7, every single year. Every year it will just be the Yankees playing whoever in the National League feels like spending the most money that year. We pack 300 million people all over the country into one super stadium, play one game, and then execute the losing team by firing squad, because they’re losers and will always be losers.

Well, naturally, you’re absolutely right. But why stop there? Why should only the pitcher have to take an L? Jeter has to get an L for that error, too. And A-Rod for not coming through in the clutch. And Cano for not getting on so the guys behind him could knock him in. They all should get a L.

Jeter never gets L’s because unlike the others he is a true Yankee. And a winner. And clutch.
