Official 2010 MLB season/fantasy baseball thread

I guess it is the increased media scrutiny in New York that is physically causing him to lose fastball velocity.

What’s crazy is that I thought Vazquez would be unfairly undervalued because of all this New York mojo nonsense, and I still thought he would be decent even considering he’s moving to the AL East from the NL East…and yet, I still didn’t undervalue him enough.

I ride or die with Javier Vazquez.

Bad Boys for life.

Wouldn’t you rather give all that money to Cliff Lee instead, and just give firstbase to some hot shot prospect (Jon Singleton) or dime a dozen type guy like LaRue, Huff, or whatever?

I think you would have to do that just for amusement alone, just for being able to throw Halladay and Lee at a team on consecutive days. I used to think position players were more valuable…but not with complete game robotic monsters like those guys.

You are guaranteed two wins every five days…that is crazy!

And then it’s like the 2001 Diamondbacks all over again. Except instead of Miguel Bastista, you have 2008 World Series MVP Cole Hamels.

Although the Byung-Hyun Kim/Brad Lidge parallel might be apt, not a good thing.

Normally I would be shocked that any team would do something like that. But then I remember that Steve Phillips was the GM then, so I’m really not.

I fixed your quote for you.

You just blew my mind.

WTF!!!

$1,193,248.20 every July 1 from 2011 to 2035

Someone either slept through finance in the 90s or they really hated the guy.

He basically just won the lotto. Even if he blow his money on some random year he gets another mil the next. This plan is idiot proof until 2036.

He lives in Connecticut, so that equals cheaper cost of living compared to New York, and no taxes go to new york but the cheaper CT ones haha. NY for the lose again.

Well as far as I know, he’s not injured right now is he? Added pressure on a pitcher sometimes causes them to try and paint corners all game, instead of being aggressive and throwing their best stuff. That even sounds like a weak excuse to me in some ways. But hey if you got any other ideas as to why he all of a sudden sucks coming back to NY, share with the class.

And lol at comparing me to Nori, I’m definitely NOT going to threaten anyone physically over the internet. I just don’t think many of you have come up with any compelling arguments to suggest that the Yankees are worth hating, other than jealousy that they stack more paper than your teams, and take advantage of being in a great sports market. I mean honestly, do you want the Yankees to start going easy on other teams or something?

Pussy.

Fuck all of you guys.

Come see me!

That is all.

Regarding this article http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/2010/04/mets_statistical_analyst_has_s.html

I just wrote Ben Baumer an e-mail.
I hope I get a response.

Dear Mr. Baumer,

I preface this e-mail by saying I am not a Mets fan, but one of my friends is.

Upon finding out that the Mets in fact employed a statistician via an article in the paper, and that your existence was indeed not just some kind of unicorn hunt, I googled to find your e-mail address.
Incidentally, I also found your home address as well, as it was really high on the Google search list for whatever reason.

When I mentioned that I found your address to my Mets fan friend, he immediately asked "Are you going to go over there with printouts from fangraphs, a calculator, and a list of demands?"
Alas, as I said earlier, I am not a Mets fan, so I refuse to do any of this, though I vaguely hope someone else does so in a suitably nerdy fashion and posts video.

So you ask, what is this leading up to?

The signing of Gary Matthews Jr.

Sir, where were you and your fancy charts and calculations when the topic of Gary Matthews Jr. came up with Mr Minaya? What about the obvious reports that he was on PEDs? Where were you indeed? Could you not have carried a spray bottle of water and screamed "Bad Omar! Bad!"
while spritzing his nose?

I mean, sure it may have seemed like a good price (only paying 2 million dollars to a player worth 23.5 million dollars? What a steal!), but for that money, the Mets could have obtained a league average outfielder prospect, a relief pitcher and also kept poor Brian Stokes. Again, I quote my Mets obsessed friend, ""Brian Stokes.sniffle I liked him."
At least we can all take comfort knowing that Brian Stokes is in a better place…singing hymns on high with the Angels.

Signed,
I am not a Mets fan.

P.S. I could also ask where you were on Jason Bay and Pineiro, but that is a topic for another day

just because they have statisticians doesn’t mean they use them

i mean omar is making millions, this stat guy is prolly making 50k. he probably asks is this a good signing, stat guy does tons of work says no, omar signs him anyway

In that case this guy will probably be more than happy to reply and vent about how no one in the Mets front office listens to him. Entertaining either way!

I think Vazquez will still be good, because I drafted him and I seriously cannot suck too hard at fantasy baseball too, otherwise I will go insane. I’m rooting for him!

I don’t buy the much ballyhooed New York pressure thing, at least in terms of on the field performance. You said it yourself, it’s a weak excuse, it cannot be proven, and so I think it’s silly to even bring it up.

That is the greatest thing about the Yankees, that they win because they are more baller than everyone else. That’s why I like the Yankees more than the Red Sox…because the Yankees just do the damn thing and make no apologies, whereas the Sox do the same thing by outbidding 28 other teams but whine when the Yankees outbid them.

All I ask is for Yankee fans to (a) acknowledge and appreciate the fact that their team is rich as fuck and actually likes to swing their wallet around and (b) don’t bullshit everyone with nonsense about how they succeed by building a team through skill and guile. (Like thinking that trading for Curtis Granderson was a shrewd move. Tigers were looking to dump money - only the Yankees make that deal, and they only make it because they are rich and can absorb a contract like that. It’s a shrewd move in the same sense that throwing a billion dollars at CC, AJ, and Teixaria were shrewd moves.)

If they don’t, then it is a hilarious and pathetic situation and it requires ridicule. Like with Nori.

I’m JUST NOW seein this double post, lame.

lol trufax. Sox fans are way more delusional. But obviously I’m biased, and loving their weakass start. Outscoring the Orioles by one run over a 3 game series? Pitching and defense, hurfdurf!

I’m not saying the Yankees don’t spend the money they make. Of course they do, and they should. But to say that there’s no skill involved in player assessment is just ridiculous, one look at all the talent they’ve produced from their farm teams should tell you that. And without the benefit of high draft picks (Rays) to boot. There’s gotta be a middle ground there. Yankees fans shouldn’t be acting like they don’t just outbid teams sometimes, because they do. But haters can’t act like there’s no skillful management taking place, not only in terms of player choices but the whole organization.

Again, look at the fucking Mets.

They got money too, same market. They’re trash, they don’t make as much money as the Yankees, don’t market themselves as effectively as the Yankees, and they don’t win NEARLY as much even when they buy high priced free agents. The Mets AAA team is up here in Buffalo, and they’re ass tier. Very little depth in the farm system, wheras the Yankees are producing players like Hughes, Pena and Cervelli without even mentioning the big four they produced in the 90’s.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Am7eRWV_if33fq0E407sBWcRvLYF?slug=ap-cox-pujolscontract

Bobby Cox says Pujols should get $50 million a year in his next contract. Jesus.

mets are in the ghetto of ny though flushing queens

yankees are right in bronx

big difference

mets only seem to attract hispanic fans for some reason

god fuck whoeveer added smoak for 1 day then dropped him

wanted to drop edwin jackson and add him except he didn’t clear waivers until wed

so of course jackson gives up 10 runs in 2.1 innings today :frowning:

Yeah, they’re great at it. All those failures just couldn’t handle playing for the Yankees, amirite?

itrollu.

imo.
