Official 2010 MLB season/fantasy baseball thread

I think there’s more hope for the Pirates than the Royals, and that’s even with Grienke!!

I think the Royals GM is the worst in the majors…or is it Minaya with that huge payroll and shit team?

ed wade of the astros is prolly the worst

kevin towers of the padres is pretty bad too.

dayton moore (royals) is one of the better GMs, he was just handed a horrible situation. the royals are way better off now than before he took over.

I’d go with either Minaya or Ed Wade.

Minaya has spent endless on big-name guys, but really hasn’t addressed the Mets major holes (SP, 1B etc) and the Astros have the worst farm system and keep trying to build off spare parts.

I’d cut Kevin Towers some slack, his owner has cut back heavily due to a divorce or something so he’s had to firesale the team.

i think you’re thinking of the dodgers. the owners there are getting divorced and they cut payroll a lot as a result

the padres are owned by a group of people led by Jeff Moorad (who also owns part of the Diamondbacks)

Could you tell me what he has done thats good, signing or trade wise? He extended Greinke with a very good contract, so obviously that’s really good but i can’t think of one other trade or signing that he’s come out on top of.

Signing Guillen to 12 mil a year - absolutely horrible.
Signing Farnworth for 4.5 mil a year - absolutely horrible.
Trade for Yuniesky Betancourt (worst SS in baseball?) - absolutely horrible.
Trading Leo Nunez (marlins closer) for Mike Jacobs - horrible.
Trading Ramon Ramirez for Coco Crisp - bad or even i guess, but Ramirez is still contributing in Boston, Crisp is in Oakland.
Signing Bloomquist - bad
Signing Jason Kendall - horrible
Signing Ankiel - kinda ok at 3 mil/yr

I may be mssing something, but can you show me how he’s one of the better GMs in baseball? Cuz me and most everyone else would disagree with you…

EDIT: quick link to further prove some of my points. http://www.royalsauthority.com/2009-articles/august/dayton-moore-rewarded-for-royals-awful-season.html

added a minor league team, had scouts go to latin america (before this royals had none there), redid the whole scouting department

they’ve got a stacked minor league now. there’s been some crappy signing in the majors but i think those were more like lets hope this works until the farm system develops. in 2012 if we are all still alive the royals should be really good

maybe he just sucks at free agent market, but building a team through drafts he’s good at

Nah, the Royals don’t have the worst GM…

They have the worst owner.

The GM has been able to, at least, bring in some decent prospects at various positions.

Most of the Royals prospects are in the low minor leagues (below AA).
Also, the Royals have 0 prospects in the top 25, 2 prospects in the top 50, 4 prospects in the top 100, and rank in the bottom half of minor league systems. so saying the minor league system is ‘stacked’ is plain wrong, it’s average at best.

Ok so he’s had shit FA signings and an average at best minor league system, yet he’s one of the better GMs in baseball. hmmm ok.

Yeah ok dude

the royals fitteds that have come out since he’s been GM have been dope too

i copped 2 for myself one with the sticker on it and the other i peeled off in case i need to wear it to a formal event

I will not be at the ESPN Draft today as I work on Sundays.

Drafts not today homie, it’s on the 28th, though it’s still on a Sunday so either way huh lol

future dead manager =/

i’m from kansas, so unfortunately, i’m a royals fan for life…

guess you can’t just auction it off cuz it’s been done.

Dayton Moore not really a good GM, but Ed Wade not nearly as bad as everyone says either.

Still no mock draft in this thread. Fuck ya’ll.

EDIT: I’ll mock draft with myself if you assholes don’t want to.

Pick #1: Hanley Ramirez.

Either Pooholes or Hanley are good here, I’ll take youth over Pooholes’ slight lead in production in a keeper league though.

imo.

I’ll play.

1.02 - Alex Rodriguez

Third base is shallow and A-Rod if healthy still has at least one more massive season left in him. 40 home runs 25 steals 140 rbi 120 runs 300 average.

Since the mock draft will never get done I will just put in my top 5 picks.

No 1st round pick
2nd round (16th overall) Joe Maur/Felix. (whoever is available, if both are not then FUCK YOU SRK EAT A DICK.)
2nd round (23rd overall) Ichiro/CC. (Once again EAT A DICK if both are unavailable.)
3rd round (26th overall) Greinke/J-Roll. (You already know)
3rd round (33rd overall) Zimmerman. (I don’t care so you don’t have to eat a dick.)
4th round (40th overall) Cliff Lee. (I swear to god Lothar… DON’T DO IT.)

Okay you guys can go back to debating about the fucking Kansas City Royals if you want.

Thanks for putting your draft strategy out for all to see. Does Cliff Lee really have a lower draft position than Ryan Zimmerman…? Is 3B really that shallow such to motivate someone to draft A-Rod over Pooholes?

I also want to participate in this mock draft, but only with the 5th pick. So two more people need to jump in before I do.

Strategy? I already said in the NBA thread that I have THROWN ALL strategy out the window. I’m fucking done with strategy. I only draft players I like.

Ex: No way in hell am I ever going to have J.R Smith on my team. With baseball I haven’t thought of a player I dislike that much yet, but I will find some eventually.

You never know how the season will turn out but one you get past the top 8 third basemen (A-Rod, Reynolds, Zimmerman, Wright, Sandoval, Longoria, Ramirez, Youkilis) the other options look to be very poor. Then you’re looking at guys like Chone Figgins and Michael Young who while talented in their own way don’t have the power desired from the position. After that it gets worse. A lot worse.

Maybe I just confused the fact that there are more top tier 3B options with actual depth at the position.

Zimmerman, Reynolds, Sandoval, and Longoria have emerged as top notch fantasy options at 3B comparable to A-Rod and Wright now…although that might be because A-Rod (injury) and Wright (unexpected gayness) just regressed a bit last year. They should have been in a tier on their own, now handful of guys have caught up to them.

3B does drop off quite a lot after the first two tiers though, you’re right.

I could still never pick anyone (aside from Han-Ram maybe) over Pooholes though, that guy is way too Beasley.

Strange…I think I am the opposite. I can’t remember the specifics, but I think my favourite fantasy basketball team was the one VSlash put together in the mock draft, headlined by JR Smith and Zach Randolph. Would have done pretty well, actually.

Your strategy is drafting all the players you like, so I am going to steal them all for spite. Fantasy baseball is seriously, spiteful business.
