GULF COAST ENCOUNTERS
A bi-weekly fighting game tournament in Gulf Breeze, FL

The purpose of this tournament is to tie two fighting game communities together in the NWFL area, promote friendly competition, and grow our local scene.

While we are only including two main games at GCE, we encourage you to come out and support the event, network with the community, and support your game of choice. We are still open to the idea of including additional games. There are also casual stations setup on one side of the venue where you can load your game of choice if there is an open station.

PLEASE reply to this post if you are interested in seeing and/or playing another fighting game at this tournament. I am building a list of which fighting games people are most interested in playing to see if we can have a good enough turnout to include more games.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be played consistently at every tournament and if/when additional games are included they will be played on stream prior to Marvel.

yo i want to help otu with this. as long as i can be there. and that is a lie we do hate. Bring it. Welcome to GCE: HOME OF THE RUSH DOWN

Up for MK9 and SSF4AE

While I don’t really play much anymore aside from the NeoGeo I live right down the road from this in Tiger Point. I’d be willing to help out and if you have any interest in any of the retro games I’d be more than happy to lend support and equipment (Neo, Supergun, basically all the “classic” or old games and systems). Send me an email to jpaul.blount@gmail.com as I don’t really visit the forum. Mike, Paul, Justin, Corn can all vouch for me and who I am it’s just that as the newer stuff came into play I kinda stayed back with the old stuff and fell off the map.

Can’t wait to see how this local scene is. Get hype everyone!

Text me and keep me updated for anything you want me to bring, or do to help out Magneto Beast ;D

If its just marvel i’m out

The first event will have Marvel only, but that is only for the first event. As I mentioned in my post, we are definitely looking to add other games. Should I put you down for a player that would participate in a SFxT and/or Skullgirls tournament?

omgad, derricks ufo shit was tooooo good lol

sorry homie, had to rock that!! too many alien jokes to not use. you’se gots probed!!

I think for a first gathering, everyone should come out just to meet the rest of the scene. If you play odd games, post them up and see if you can setup something with other players @ the gathering.

You know me Paul, if you ask for some odd games I can bring out some crazy shit. I say we bust out the Windjammers, harder to get more intense than that game and i have multiple Neo sticks now and converters for others.

If you ever have Soul Calibur 5 I will be there. Starving for local comp.

Hey Drake, don’t be afraid to come out to meet us either. We may not have the strongest SCV community (Full Schedule has a horrible Taki in SC3) but we are always willing to put in time to mingle with the community.

ya. even if its not our main game. we would eventaully help you level up if we decide to take it somewhat serious. but in order to do that you have to come out.

I’ve never played marvel, the one time I did I had no idea what I was doing and just got bodied (even though I learned his setups after about 6 matches, I didn’t know combos or have any team synergy… I basically just blocked until I died haha)

Aw man, that’s hella far from Orlando. I’d vote for SC5, but I definitely wouldn’t be able to attend.

What kind of tv’s are at this place. I can bring a NeoGeo and Supergun along with a bunch of games on there if anybody would be interested in some King of Fighters, Garou, Samurai Shodown, etc. and some of the fun but off beat games like Windjammers, Bust a Move, Magical Drop, and others. I have all the equipment for a variety of setups with it so anyone interested would be able to be comfortable playing the games.

I would be down for some bust a move when I’m not running the stream lol. The TVs at the location are dynes 32" hdtvs I believe. I’ll be bringing in a small 20 inch HDTV that has very little lag, I would compare to the EVO monitors. This is the one I’m planning to have the stream matches on. I haven’t tested lag on the dynexs yet.

What model TVs, and how do you intend to test for lag?

Dothan, AL might come out for this if we have time to kill and a big enough carpool. We could probably bring a couple EVO monitors if we show. How many people do you expect for Marvel?

EDIT: Well, scratch that. Huntsville literally just set up something on the same day.

I’m not to worried about tv lag for anything I may be bringing, it’s more of just a matter of compatibility. With the Neo and supergun and all HDMI isn’t really an option but then just having access to composite or s-video will be great.

Sixfortyfive, the TV model that I’m planning to play on is a PHILIPS - and I don’t have any professional software to test lag on, so I’m just going by my judgment and several UMvC3 gamers in my town. I’m not some scrub, I’ve participated in several tournaments and I’ve played on the “EVO” monitors at CEO, etc. I may end up purchasing EVO monitors in the future, but for now I’m going to run it on this one because I can run my capture device through it (component) and in my opinion there is no lag. If there are several complaints at the first tournament of lag, we will make adjustments. I may also bring a CRT tube tv as well for backup, which I will most likely donate to the venue. But, I am definitely excited that you were interested in coming… keep an eye out on us and try to catch the archive footage after GCE #1. We have some good competition down here and we would love to see out of towners make a trip down. If all goes well, this will be a bi-weekly event.

Sazae, I’m sure the TVs there have Composite or S-video, as most modern hdtvs have at least composite. I asked the owner about alcohol and he said for now it’s beer only (BYOB). If anyone brings beer, we need to strap wristbands on people who are over 21 - so that no minors start drinking.

Also,

** ALL PEOPLE COMING TO THE EVENT AND NOT PLAYING IN TOURNAMENT WILL STILL HAVE TO PAY THE $5.00 VENUE FEE **

5.00 is not much and it supports the owner of the shop, hopefully that isn’t a problem for anyone.
