I know you’re missing a PC fighter… all I remember is that it was stop-motion like Mortal Kombat, along with the gore. And incredibly boring… I bought it around '95 or something.
Pray for Death? You’re the third person to ask about this within the last couple months, hah.
I’m missing all of PC and Console Fighters because this is a thread about emulated Arcade games…
Tho if someone feels like doing a similar roundup for those formats, I’d be more than happy to contribute.
And ‘contributions’ to this thread would be much better if posted with some pics and info for people to see, that was kinda the point
Now that would be quite a bit (listing all the obscure console and pc fighters?).
There’s everything from Flash Hiders (PC Engine), Osu Karate Club (SFC), Weaponlord (Genesis), Ultra Vortek (Jaguar), Way of the Warrior (3DO)…
NEBULOSO did that game came out for PSX? If so, have any link to: pics, info, etc?
And its name was the same? (I guess it was japan only)
Thx.
I need to see pics of this. I have a couple of videos and I’m not sure if it’s from this game. If it’s not, maybe someone can tell me where it’s from. I’ll upload them when I can.
Btw, a mod should mergeour threads.
Alright, not to sound “OUT OF IT” but, is the PSX you mention that mini Play Station? (Yes I’m truly out of the game Loop).
As for info? I’ll see what I can find. OotLD for the PS is like Galaxy Fight, in that not many mags (American at least) talked about it.
As for the PS version itself: It’s alot faster, has Mizoguchi and they added several new sound effects for some of the moves…not to mention it has that Guy (I don’t know his name) who’s on a Horse, who doesn’t relly attack you until the timer gets down to about 20 or so seconds at which his lightnig attack will kill you with one hit and is almost impossible to avoid (not to mention is unblockable).
If you’re are looking at the ones in the “Videos for Obscure Fighters” thread then those are from the sequal Fuun Saiki.
Lol dont worry about it! Yes I was talking about regular Playstation…PSONE.
So it came out in US? Interestig. I will try to find it on EBAY. I also forgot totally Galaxy fight!!
martial masters is your friend.
I have a modded PS1 with the JP version. They were suppose to release a US version, but like GF, I don’t think they did?
Yes it is (along with quite a few other 2D fighters) and 3D fighters are NOT my friend/s!
I also have the RARE fighter “Samurai Deeper Kyo box set” so there! (too bad it doesn’t have the best mechanics…sigh).
Yes Deeper Kyo was a letdown for me…though it was somewhat interesting…I have some stuff for it (Combos, Glitches) but nothing groundbreaking or worth a vid.
Did anyone else actually see a Martial Champions cabinet? And if so, did it happen to be one of the loudest games there?
Yes, I played Martial Champions a few times when it came out at the MOA top floor Arcade in its own cabinet. And it was loud, not to mention it didn’t have the best voice samples, don’t get me wrong, you could understand the voices clearly, but they were kinda annoying? Its like whenever I play Heavy Barrel, you know, and you picked up the last piece 'HEAVY BARREL" and everyone in the arcade looks over your way…
Hey Crayfish, I found another emulated fighter called BLANDIA, I don’t recall seeing it in any lists. It came out in 92, it’s a weapons based fighter, and you have a high, mid and low level attacks (much like Matial Champions), and if you got hit in a certain area you’d lose the armor in that area and you had a certain amount of special moves, but it’s nothing to brag about.
Yeah Blandia is in the list already (read closer :P), the armor system is very interesting. It is especialy worth noting because damage innovations have been almost zero in 2d fighters, especialy in the modern era.
Among the few examples are:
Blandia:
Location sensitive Armor system. When armor is smashed from an area of the body, it i exposed and takes high damage if struck again.
Street Fighter 2:
Vega/Balrog (claw) making Vega repeated block attacks will knock his claw off shortening the range of his ttacks (claw is retreivable in CPS2 versions)
Time Killers:
In Time killers you can reduce the opponents arsenal of attacks by hacking off the limbs they use to perform them!! (this is the most extreme example)
Fighters History/ Karnov’s revenge series:
In this series, dizzys are associated with a single characters specific weakspot. Although in on paper a tactical innovation, in practice it actually equates to non earned often random dazing. Many matchups become completely lopsided due to one or the other having a single attack that corrolates exactly to the opponents weakspot.
Art of Fighting:
In this series the characters get injured during battle, black eyes, bruising, hematomas and even get out of breath. These effects are purely aesthetic I think, and perhaps not even location sensitive. Also your abilities can be affected during matches, but,I think, by your own expenditure rather than damage cause by the opponent
In many games there are some types of attack that dont directly cause damage, and affect your abilities, but these are generic and not loction sensetive or effect specific. These include freezing, spells that render you imobile or turn you into defenceless creatures or objects, Dim-Mak deathblows that can be reversed within a time limit etc… but these are generaly related to a specific single characters move or to a exterior powerups like Marvel Super Heroes Gem’s, rather than being an intrinsic part of the game engine.
Maybe we will see innovation again in this area, if we do, these are the games developers will have to look back to, to see what lessons can be learned.
Crayfish.
Here’s another old fighter by Konami, Galactic Warriors:

It kinda reminds me of a SCD game Black Hole Assault.
Not sure if that list correlates to 2D sprite fighters only, but didn’t Fighting Vipers have an armor system as well?
Yup. In a Wal Mart way back in 1993. The audio was broken though I recall.
Anybody played Rage of the Dragons and Matrimelee? Those games looked superb. Personally i thought ROTD had better gameplay and characters while Matrimelee had better music.
Wow, good find, thats really ahead of its time. Always wondered why there are so few sci-fi themed fighters, as opposed to say fantasy. I mean you have infinite design options, humans, beasts, robots etc… Cosmic locations… dunno…
Lol, y Heavy Barrel was bad for that, but the worst was a Golden Axe style hack n slash game, by Irem, called Blade Master. In the attract sequence (and when you strted a game) there was a sampled scream of the damzel being abducted. Thing was that it was amazingly realistic sounding and was at least 3 times louder than anyother sound effect inth game, louder than anythng in the acade infact. Even standing in the sam area of the room as the Blademaster cabinet was risky, several times, even when playing another game I had a load of hyped up peeps come bundling around the corner to save the woman who was being assualed!
Does anyone know what tis game is?

Crayfish
ps HeavyBarrel rocks but its all about Midnight Ressistance…
Midnight Resistance is truly an awesome game and the only other side scrolling shooter like it that I’d consider it’s equal is the Arcade version of Contra .
HB was one of the 1st arcade games that I Mastered.
Actually, now that you mentioned Sci-Fi, Sega had an interesting one called Cosmic Carnage for the 32X. THe overall design was not bad, but the control was not the most responsive. But it did give an Armor like system for the 4 good guys and it was neat to pick and choose between light and heavy armor which would give them different moves, and if they lost a certian body part (armor) they’d lose the special move which it pertained too. I did a FAQ for it, it’s here on G-Faqs:
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/32x/file/cosmic_carnage_a.txt
Blade Master was another Irem let down (sigh). Does not even compare to Sega’s Arcade classic Gloden Axe…Hell even GA2 on the Genesis destroys it.
As for the game you see the guy playing on the computer? I don’t know? but it looks interesting.
So crayfish, did you stumble upon this by accident, or were you looking for a different game? As I’ve found a few fighters when I was trying to find a different game cough (Martial Masters) cough.
