Yes Miid Res is a great game, I can actualy complete the game without taking a single hit. I learned the method from my cousin who actualy ‘dreamed’ the tactical solution to one of the problematic bosses. He came into the arcade the next day and beat the game to the appluse of a group of Japanese tourists. Einstein may have accessed his subconcious to come up wih the Theory of Relitivity, but he learned how to defeat the Snake Boss! I have a hole post writen on swivel stick control systems, but as yet dont know where would be suitable to post it…
The only other sidescrolling run and gun games i have anytime for are Metal Sug 3, Midnight Wanderers and I also love Capcoms Magic Sword, which is almost a run and gun. My very fave atm tho is a Taoplan overhed run and gun game called ‘Fix Eight’ its the sequel to the much loved ‘Outzone’. Its has an 8 strong SF2 like cast and many interesting weapons systems. *Only the bootleg version is playable in mame atm.
Yes totaly agree on BladeMaster. Tho it has some incredible graphical moments, the water level is particarly beautiful and the Black Samurai Mechanism boss is one of the finest drawn sprites of its era.
I always think that scrolling beatemups are like Cola, lowly regarded and often derided as simplistic, but its incredibly hard to make a good one. Only maybe 2 or 3 companies have made really good ones, and most of the other top companies attempts have been disasters (in playability anyway) see Irem, Konami, Taito u name it…
Speaking of Irem, that Cosmic Carnage game looks kinda how I imagined ‘Perfect Soldiers’ would look, some of those characters have that real ‘Akio’ R-Type, bio-organic, bolt on horsepower look to them. I’m deffo gonna check that, and your faq, out.
I just found that pic by accident, but am always interested in finding ‘new’ interesting fighters.
soz to everyone else for going completely offtopic…
Crayfish.
i always wondered about that sega hologram fighting game. i figured because of the type of graphics it had (or the most likely obscure hardware it ran on?) it could never be emulated… i remember seeing the cabinet at a friend’s birthday party at some local dave & busters/gameworks type place and it was so cool looking.
holosseum, that was it. talk about taking a chance to chase the success of sf… hah
I forgot about the Slug series. I thought Warrior Blade (Rastan 3) was pretty good. WTF am I talking about, Rush 'N Attack is another Konami classic.
I’ll have to try both Outzone and Fix Eight…
I have both the AES and MVS version of RoD. It’s not a bad game, has a good/interesting combo sytem, and has one of the most Hard-as-Hell bosses of any of the Neo fighters. I do like RoD’s Intro. I have not played Matrimelee yet, I eventually will.
In 2 days I’ll see what Matrimelee is all about. I bought the AES version after seeing some pics of it here: http://www.neogeoforlife.com/neo_reviews/matrimelee_1a.php
I’ve seen some cool combos (but not in any videos), but I don’t know if NF added anything new to the play mechanics? :wonder:
Matrimelee is cool, I played it and wrote a guide for it on gamefaqs. I’m not that good, the guide was mostly me as I figured out moves and junk and wrote them down, and decided to make that into a guide.
Though if you like Rage of the Dragons, you’ll probably like Matrimelee. (Some ROTD characters are in Matrimelee, Lynn, Billy, Elias, and Jones.)
Martial Master is working in MAME now but only good for player VS player
in single player the AI is dead… it locks up sometimes but mostly playable VS
And that other IGS sword game, it aight no samsho though but I played it a bit… I also quite like that Data East Superhero Fighting game with the dkc type sprites… it’s cool.
And I played the gundam game for snes I didn’t like it, fighting games with robots don’t usually do it for me unless your talking Q from SF3TS
With the advent of Mame 106, The Killing Blade (Chinese board): http://perso.orange.fr/windjammers-fans/pgm/killing_blade/killing_blade_images.html
is now fully playable. This game is very interesting, fantastically creative character designs, like the legless ghoul that walks on its two swords. It seems to have lots of system features, including a kind of V-ism Custom Combo bar among other things. But whats really interesting to me is the variiation of the the hitbox layouts of the moves. Some characters are linear punch straight ahead, AA kick, low sweep kick types, but others are very interesting area control type normals, multidirectional dash moves, multiple air projectiles etc… Im sure this game prolly favours rushdown tactics (as with most modern chain combo, dash enabled fighters) but there is enough Anakaris/ Sentinel/ Basara type area control stuff to warant me putting some time into this. Anyone else playing this?
So far, unless I missed it, nobody has brought up Kabuki Clash (‘Klash’ maybe?) It’s not very good, so I don’t blame you. Ranagard is pretty terribly IMO, and Tatoo Assassins never actually came out, it was, after all another Data East ripof…, er, masterpiece.
Someone mentioned Voltage Fighter Gowcaiser earlier, it’s actually pretty fun, one thing i liked about it was that everytime you beat an opponent, you gained one of their moves, pretty unique. It also had this totaly awesome character named Brider who was some Guyver-esqe dude who’s not in the anime at all and suffers from a bad case of “All Your Base are Belong to Us” to much comic effect.
With regards to MAME 106 that keeps getting linked…how is everyone decrypting it? I’ve never heard of a .7z file and WinRAR hasn’t either…
Oh and one more thing:
I AM THE JUSTICE! NOT YOU! ~ afformentioned Voltage Fighter.
I do have the Killing Blade game for the PGM, it’s good but KB doesn’t really compare to Martial Masters. The characters are pretty cool. Speaking of the legless ghoul, that guy reminds of that character in Dragoon Might who walks on his 2 swords. I will admit you can do some pretty intense combos in KB. I actually like the one armed man and the phantom guy.
Speaking of Dragoon Might, I made it to Dogma (who I think is the last boss). He might be a new contender for Hardest Boss in a fighting game, what a pain in the ass he is. He has a jumping attack where he forms a cross and has fire shooting outward from his arms which gives him about 5" of extra reach making it very difficult to jump at him, not to mention his laser does too much damage when blocking, but his throws are some of the coolest and original I’ve seen in a while (you know for a game that came out in 95).
say waattttt!!:wow: (runs to computer to try martial masters) i been waiting forever for this rom to work i always thought that martial masters was an interesting game:wink:
