Blasto’s jumping was difficult as fuck.
I don’t know if they are that obscure, but Neverhood and Skullmonkeys.
Really hilarious and fun games.
Brave Fencer Musashi was one of my favorite games from the PSX, but that PS2 sequel just didn’t do anything for me. I had to force myself to finish it.
It was. I had a fuck ton of those rent 1 get 1 free blockbuster coupons in the mail and picked Blasto because I liked the name lol, I was 10 or 11 when I played it and even then I could tell something was off. It was one of the first truly shitty in every way games I played at that point and it confused me because I remember thinking “I’m shooting stuff but why isn’t this fun?” and all the sexual references went over my head, I just thought a game with so many blonde women was weird.
Anyways I’ll keep going, I used to love sports games when I was a kid but got bored of them in my late teens. That being said there is one sports game I played on Sega Channel and loved so much about 6 years ago I bought it and still play it once in a while, and it was hard as fuck especially the surfing as kids none of my friends could figure it out:
Another game I’ve never played, but I remember reading about it in a PlayStation mag back in the day doing a “Making Of” feature (think it was PSM). It’s most enduring legacy is that it’s one of the last projects Phil Hartman was ever involved with.
Another kinda-sorta obscure gem, Ghost in the Shell:

Many years before Stand Alone Complex made everyone familiar with the series, the original GitS was made into a PS1 game in '97. I never owned the actual full game itself, but it was included on a demo disc that game with some of the earlier PS1 models (circa late '96) and I played it all the time. Loved how you could walk up walls and even upside-down on the ceiling. In fact, I think I spent more time with this and the Jet Moto demo than many games I’ve owned for the console since.
All I remember about Blasto is all that stuff about Uranus they tried to make a big deal out of.
Of all the Taito arcade games, I’ve never see anyone ever talking about Growl, the brawler where indy expies saev teh animals
Disregard the crappy home ports though
Power Strike (Sega Master System)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7GWd4inuPo
Actually, I think anything on the Master System qualifies as obscure (except for a few, like Phantasy Star). Did you know there’s a Ninja Gaiden game for the console?
I was recently recommended an under-rated, obscure I guess, Super Nes action platformer called Haganae. It’s a side scrolling ninja game with grappling hooks, a large move set, fun controls and gameplay design, and some really cool set pieces. I would recommend it.
I dunno if it’s obscure, but I wish there were more beat em ups like Dungeon Magic/Light Bringer.
Skullmonkeys, maybe, but Neverhood is enormously well known and influential.
I will never understand the need to be a hipster faggot that has did/heardof/played something no one ever gives to fucks about.
That being said, play Sweet Home if you ever get the chance.
I recommend PS1 games Tomba and Team Buddies.

Sky Blazer, by Imagesoft. It’s Striderish.

Neugier

Admittedly, I’ve only played this with an English patch. I’m not sure why an overseas port was never released, but it was planned.
Soul Blazer (first game in the Gaia series)

Emerald Dragon’s combat is… unique.

Not particularly ‘awesome,’ but it’s silly and worth a play just for laughs: Dead Dance

And though I have never played it, I was directed the other day to the Astroboy game for GBA:

Apparently it has a surprisingly-developed plot for a GBA game (a platform associated with shovelware, advertainment, and re-releases).
Tomba was the shit! I just recently played and beat it like a year and a half ago. Tried to play the second but it felt really weird.
Not sure if this is an obscure game but Wonderboy in Monster World was a great game for the Sega Genesis.

Original Alien Breed Tower Assault on the Amiga
I think this was my first videogame addiction, so much cool stuff, you could even level up weapons add attachments.

Mayhem in Monster Land on C64

Mix of Sonic and Mario, this pushed the C64 to the max, brilliant graphics and music
Locomotion

All you had to do is get the train from to the highlighted point by altering the track as it went along without crashing into another train. I should check if I can get this on android.
Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge C64

This game made me fall in love with sports cars lol

Sky Odyssey is still one of my favorites from the PS2, since day one launch until now. That and Fantavision, say what you want about launch titles, but these two were a blast.
Some N64 games that were passed by most because of obscurity
