Hmm, cross-over reversals and invincibility. Question, if you CC into Wright’s Press the Witness, does he come out in Trial mode or Investigation? Also, is Press/Break the Witness as a CC invincible at all now?
CC = Cross-over counter

Just tested, Wright comes out in whatever mode he was. Yes, this means inv Wright was doing Press The Witness. He seemingly can’t do anything to combo after it besides Maya/Nightmare Judge super (except when in TM). No invun on it from any of his modes afaik (tested w/Ryu Shinku). Pretty sad.
So, Press the Witness into dash L during Investigation mode. Thanks for the testing (not worried about invul vs supers, just against certain pressure strings, like everything Vergil does and some of Dante’s safer stuff). Is it possible to CC with Paperwork and combo from it on hit? Invul should last long to get papers on the screen, which pretty much stop everything except invul moves. Looking for alternatives to getting Wright out/getting him some evidence, while having a decent CC option (Ryu Tatsu works too, but can’t really follow that up without super or xfc).
Paperwork High/Storm seemingly have no invun as well. TM Wright can easily combo after it. Inv Wright could “technically” do a cL to combo it, but his cL is almost as bad as RR’s, so that’s not gonna happen.
Something interesting I just learned though: While trying to combo after both assists, if Wright does Steel Smelting on a standing opponent, he can wavedash towards them and launch, even when he’s cornered. You could do this after Press the Witness or Paperwork after a CC.
If Wright is in Trl Mode w/3 good evidence, he can easily combo Objection afterwards. I don’t like the idea of wasting two bars, but it’s there…
Nice, possible TAC after launch to completely switch momentum and put the recently defending point back on the offensive. I’ll take a look at those next time I play (hopefully tomorrow). Thanks.
been trying to get back into playing phoenix wright but it’s a pain! when you know every match is gonna be a uphill battle and unless you get cellphone or knife
courtroom mode won’t save you
whenever turnabout mode comes into play it’s either too late or it’s not really needed
^Cellphone only is garbage. Takes too long to activate, goes away if Wright is hit (would need to be on point with your paperwork). Knife only isn’t very good either; you don’t do any sort of damage with it. I suggest you play that team in your sig if you’re gonna be so negative all the time. =/
i am not trying to be negative all the time
it’s just hard to find anything positive right now
since you don’t want to waste turnabout mode
courtroom mode is what you have to use for most of the match
i was only mentioning cellphone and knife because they outclass the other projectiles
Honestly, knife seems a bit over-rated imo. I can see it being a great second evidence piece, but solo it doesn’t do much for you (not anything paperwork doesn’t already do). Phone solo is only good if you can play vanilla Trial Wright decently. And seriously, I doubt “wasting” turnabout is an issue now. Hit it when you can, capitalize, go back to evidence and Trial.
Btw, most of your posts are negative (from before the assist nerf, too). Best bet is to proof read. Constant negativity doesn’t produce results. =/
playing the game produces results though which is what i’ve been doing and what i mean by wasting it is instantly using it as soon as you get it
you’re opponent’s not gonna let you get turnabout mode twice in one match(if you fail to kill him with the first one)
again it’s hard to be positive about phoenix wright i try to be when i play the game i really do
but he has everything going against him
To be honest I only use the pieces of evidence when I call some of my assists (in this case, Doom or Dormammu) to make it safe. The Knife is quite overlooked, and the Cellphone gets more useful/safe in Turnabout mode so I just stick with Paperwork to cover some stuff when close in Trial mode.
Wasting Turnabout mode is quite an issue with me, of course you get possibly the best Lvl3 in the game, but it’s really situational, because you don’t need it to kill someone in combos since his H attack becomes really good.
Oh yeah, I actually found this out a few days ago. Maya doesn’t go as far when she’s hitting a standing opponent during her super, so you can actually get an Objection in from anywhere on the screen if you hit someone with it while they’re standing.
Thinking like that leads to zero improvement, imo. You’re basically saying Wright is a terrible character. So, why play him? If it’s because you like the character, deal with it and don’t post just to complain about it (what he can’t do, how X character gets in “for free”, etc). There are like 30+ other characters in the game, don’t spend all your time complaining about one when you can just switch him out. =/
The cellphone and the knife are very good, but the other pieces of evidence have their uses too.
The vase, for example, is a VERY good anti-air. It’s also a decent projectile at long range when combined with the knife and the cellphone because of its fast startup. In turnabout mode, you can combo up to 4 of these in a row for 400k approximated damage!
The autopsy report is also a good anti air when you know your opponent is going to super jump. Just use it and dash around it for a getto mixup, or dash away and use other pieces of evidence (like the cellphone) for more chip.
The photograph is one of my favorites. It stuffs a lot of assists and entry attempts, like Vergil teleports, if you do it preemptively. It also beats a lot of keep away stuff, like Sentinel drones, Magneto’s disruptor… I also like to throw it out randomly once in a while because it tends to catch people off guard.
The watch is not very useful by itself, really…It has a faster startup than most pieces of evidence, but it doesn’t cover much of the screen and it doesn’t have a lot of durability. I only use it in conjunction with other pieces of evidence or in combos (turnabout mode).
On a general note, I don’t think you should be in trial mode without 3 pieces of evidence. Having 3 pieces of evidence really makes your opponent respect you because of the possible objection. Also, the pieces of evidence by themselves are not very useful at all. It is only when you use them in conjunction with one another that they start to shine. They are NOT herp derp material that you can spam, but they do open options for PW. You just have to be creative with them, adapting to the situation at hand.
Watch has the same durability as the photo and stays on the screen longer iirc (slow moving projectile vs fast beam); also has less hit-stun deterioration on it than the beam (one hit vs three; good for combo-ing into additional projectiles). I would think at least a good evidence combo is enough for Trial mode, since you don’t want to sit back in Investigation for too long. Also, does anybody have any idea how to control the folder projectile? Not sure how that works. Need to try and use it like Strange’s Eye.
I gotta agree, the Knife and Cellphone are really overrated by some people, because the other pieces of evidence also has its uses. You can actually use them in combos in Turnabout mode and they can be effective both as a keepaway and combo tool. Combine it with assists and it’s really good. I just don’t understand how the folder projectile works, but if I had to guess it seems that it “tracks” where the opponent is in the air, I have to test it out to see if it’s true.
Also, if you happen to be on X-Factor lvl2/lvl3 Turnabout mode, just abuse all those items randomly to harass the opponent. If you happen to have good evidence that covers good space (Vase, Photograph, Folder, etc) your enemy will most likely never get in on you. Unless they are teleporters, but you just recover so fast that I think we shouldn’t even care.
Really? I never really noticed they had the same durability. The more you know .
Indeed, the watch is slower moving, but I find it a little too fast for my tastes. Maybe if it was the same speed as a hadouken it would be better. It also doesn’t stuff assists as much as the photo does, which is why I find it rather lacking. The watch is exceptional in turnabout combos, though.
Yeah, the speed kinda sucks for using it like a hadou; knife probably works better for that. Also of note, some characters can crouch under watch and photo, so covering with high/low Paperwork before using is ideal (either cover ground or air approaches). L Paperwork usually works well enough and it works as a combo breaker sometimes (useful against Dante/Vergil stingers).
Can you elaborate on this? What do you mean by combo breaker?
Hmm…I guess that Paperwork’s projectiles stay on the stage, even when Phoenix Wright is hit (?). Thus, it is a pseudo-“Combo Breaker”, like Doom Missiles assist.
